Hi Kirk,

Unfortunately on Server v15R5, that process ('DB4D Index builder') is 
ALWAYS running, so using Count taks etc to see if tits there doesn't work.


Ideally what we need to be able to do is use Process Properties to find 
the 'Duration' of the 'DB4D Index builder' and then compare it with the 
last know 'Duration, which would give us some idea of whether it is/has 
been running or not.


Unfortunately the 'DB4D Index builder' process on the server is one of 
several that have a non-unique Process No of '0'.  :-(

Instead of using the process commands - maybe you could use the WINDOW LIST 
command and then call GET WINDOW TITLE for each window?
(is there a title on that window?)

I posted the question after I had given up the struggle.

As soon as I had posted the question - and therefore I thought that I would not 
have to struggle anymore - I thought I would take one more look anyway.

That was was when I noticed that the ‘Locked’ checkbox in the Info panel was 
ticked. How? Dunno. Why? Dunno. Was it me? No (perhaps that should be Dunno as 
well, on the basis that with so much these days I dunno. And you can’t say if 
you don’t know.)

But to get to the point, I unticked the Locked box. Problem gone, sorry for 
wasting your time folks.

From the v16 R2 app, I select the older structure, get the message ‘Are you 
sure you want to open the structure file in read only mode?’ - I don’t of 
course so I can’t continue. Error is then -10509.

In the Info pane for this file the icon shows as locked. I am the only user of 
this machine, logged in with the only account that has ever been on it which is 
an administrator account. 

The info panel shows the selected app to open the file is v.15.5. If I try to 
change that to the 16 R2 (from the info panel ‘Open with’) drop-down where 16 
R2 is at the top and labelled as the default) I get a message to the effect 
that I do not have permissions to change the application for this document 
only; do I want to change all similar documents with extension .4DB? 

Not likely.

I don’t know if this is 4D, MacOS or both giving me all this pain. How has it 
all got so difficult to do the simple things? 

Any suggestions to solve this please?

Instead of an Alert create a text area on your form, make it big
and red and use OBJECT SET TITLE and OBJECT SET VISIBLE in case of
an alert.

I use 4D V13 on windows.
I have one layout where i manage one serial readings of bar codes.

In the layout there is unic input variable, after every reading i
force to remain into this field, using the command GOTO OBJECT.
Work well until i must open a ALERT command for one segnalation.
After the command ALERT the focus is not on the input variable.
Someone have idea for to solve?

AW: GOTO OBJECT

Have you the "On Timer" event still "free"?

If yes: try to set a timer right after the alert and goto object in the timer 
event. Helps sometimes.

Other idea: create your own alert msg, you may have more control on what is 
going on.

And one last idea: create an invisible button. Goto object to this button after 
the alert. The button fires on on getting focus and does the goto object back 
to the variable where you want it to be.

Or, as suggested by Vincent: on activate. But this is sometimes tricky to 
debug...

Hi Ferdinando,

Instead of an Alert create a text area on your form, make it big and red and 
use OBJECT SET TITLE and OBJECT SET VISIBLE in case of an alert.

Hi All,

I use 4D V13 on windows.
I have one layout where i manage one serial readings of bar codes.

In the layout there is unic input variable, after every reading i force to 
remain into this field, using the command GOTO OBJECT.
Work well until i must open a ALERT command for one segnalation. After the 
command ALERT the focus is not on the input variable.
Someone have idea for to solve?
