Soy milk for pancakes?

If so that requires doing all of them with soy milk, which is fine. It
will require I have it before 11. I will buy some and give you the left
over if that is okay?

I assume I can just get it from tesco, is that correct?

[57north-discuss] Open Tuesday

2018-01-23 Thread tj
The wheels of time stop for no one and so once again it is Tuesday.

The hackerspace will be open tonight for anyone that wants to visit,
dropping by after 1900 is always a safe bet. Be sure to bring a laptop
to hide behind!

If you are planning on dropping by you should reply to this email
stating how you plan to spend your time.

I shall be in, with questions for those with answers and answers for
those that can solve riddles.

[57north-discuss] Seasonal Gift Exchange

2018-01-17 Thread tj
Hello hackers,

Today I finally posted our five exchange parcels for the whopping price
of £161.58.

Some people in the space said they would help me cover some of the
shipping cost, it would be excellent if they could get in touch.

Our parcels were 3Kg clocking in at about £33 each to ship to the
Netherlands..

For next year it would be wise to keep the parcels to 2Kg which would
have only been £13 each to ship.

Oh man I am totally on board for fireworks.

These people https://store.fireworxscotland.co.uk/

quality fireworks(none of that super market shit).

I guess I have two questions, is usb a->usb c power only allowed in the
spec (I suspect no)

Can I get a cable/device/dongle/thing that will do this for me. I am
think of a micro and two bus chips so it can negotiate correctly, but not

I have a continuation of the nerf gun project I took to the hall of
mayhem. Having a deadline would get me to finish the project. It
certainly fulfils the interactive requirement.

We would probably need two more projects, I think we really need to have
posters explaining how the projects are made and why they are
interesting to engineers.

Do two other people have project they want to take?

Subject: IET open-door day

Good afternoon,

Aberdeen Science centre is hosting the 2017 IET (Institute of Engineering and
Technology) open-doors day in collaboration with Shell. We are looking to
showcase the amazing range of engineering in the North-East.

We would like to invite 57 North Hacklab to come along to our public event on
29th July 2017 and run an interactive booth/stall. I visited your stall at the
Universities May Festival - 'Hall of Mayhem', and I think you would add a very
popular different angle into engineering. There are not strict guidelines, but
we are looking for an interactive and engaging, engineering themed activity.
The event will run from 10 am - 4pm with setup from 8.30am. Lunch will be
provided and power and Wi-Fi can be supplied if required.

Please get in touch if you have any questions, and if you are interested, what
you would like to bring along.

Kind regards

Thomas

I shan't be in, I am really sorry. I have a flight at 0600 tomorrow and
need to have slept before boarding the plane.

In lieu of my visit you should all be preparing to go camping at

I now have a boost converter for the network, which I will be playing

Due to the near horizontal angle of the snow this morning I won't be in,
rather I will be heading home before more apocalyptic weather can occur.

Last week I picked up a DEC PRO-350, which is sort of a PDP-11, I will

I will be in the space!

I have plans to keep poking at a wifi driver, progress on that will
depend how paniced I am about work and probably the person density in
the space.

I am going to play with rumble[1], a distributed p2p something app. We
tried playing with it at congress, but the spectrum was too intense for
it.

You should install it now if you fancy joining in.

Some people showed interest in the space at techmeetup last week,
hopefully they will be by. If people you don't know show up at the space
you should be extra welcoming, friendly and enthusiastic!

I won't be in, I am sorry :(

TechMeetup is tomorrow and it will be awesome:

via Bruce:

Come join us on Wednesday, 15 February at 18:30 in foyer at the
north end of the Meston Building. We’ll hear Mark Marooth talk about
his experiments in setting up small linux devices to help out at
home.

Mark will discuss what he's been up to and bring along 4-5 real
examples for folks to see and perhaps run.

I will talk about the history, challenges, failures and successes
and show a couple of devices that I run at home including what I
believe to be one of the smallest fully functional Linux devices
around including Wi-Fi.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1792687437719947/

As always, come for the talks and stay for the conversations.

And also, a big thanks to our sponsors who make TechMeetup possible
with their amazing financial support:

Cultivate (http://www.cultivatehq.com/), Informatics Ventures
(http://www.informatics-ventures.com/ ), SkyScanner
(http://www.skyscanner.net/) and small donations from community
members.

Thank you all. We look forward to seeing you there.

I am at a complete loss, I really have no idea where the confusion comes
from.

Anyone know what other hackerspaces have? hackerspace.pl has this
notification currently:

Sorry We're OPEN
According to our instruments there are at least 3 people at the
hackerspace right now.

Looking in the wayback machine I found:

Sorry We're CLOSED
According to our instruments there is probably no one at the
hackerspace right now.

But the open/closed issue is still there, I don't think more words would
make this any clearer to the people that are getting confused.

Dear Hacklab,

I am writing from the University of Southern Denmark. In two weeks I will be
travelling along with students from our Robotics Department to Bristol and
Edinburgh to promote one of our Master study programmes - Drone Technology.

I am writing to you because I want to invite students who may have interested
in taking their Masters in Robotics to our information meetings. Judging from
your website, people at 57 North Hacklab may find drones interesting!

Would it be possible to promote our information meeting via your group? Perhaps
via email to your members as well as your Facebook page
www.facebook.com/57NorthHacklab/?fref=ts<https://www.facebook.com/57NorthHacklab/?fref=ts>
  ?

Here are the links to both of our events:

Bristol, November 15th at the Watershed 16:00 until 18:00
www.facebook.com/events/1473411546006331/<https://www.facebook.com/events/1473411546006331/>

www.facebook.com/events/919542984857126/<https://www.facebook.com/events/919542984857126/>

It's a very specific information meeting which is why we need to target our
audience so directly. If you are aware of any similar clubs/societies I should
contact please let me know.

It would be great if you could let me know if you can help.

Thank you,

Michael Magee

1. See if usb bring up works for this wifi driver I am writing.[3]
or, if that doesn't work.
2. See if I convince scapy to give me radiotap headers

I too will be in the space!

What will I be doing? Well there is a list:

1. Most of all I want to get closer to winning this darn bet I have
with Ed. That will involve writing some python to run sub
processes, and hopefully I won't get caught in a privilege
   separation trap.
2. And I can't remember any of the other things that might grab my
attention. That makes mitigating them hard!

What are you gonna do?

I will be in, I will be seeing how well my system does trying to win
this bet with Nordin. I'll probably be asking people where is best to
set up a mqtt broker too.

To Kickstart:
We probably want to run one on a vps and maybe federate to one in
the space. We can firewall off topics so space only messages can
stay within the building. How does that sound?

We might actually want an even more complicated architecture so we
can use mqtt over websockets and embed stuff in webpages.

SSL is also a consideration, but writing against the api has been
making me sad all week.

Anyway a make the space better hackathon would be a great idea, I

A hackathon where we build improvements and install them later would
probably be the best idea, if we break the network it would probably
stop people being productive.

We could have an annual robots day in the space to celebrate the machines
that make our lives better. 1st of October(that day or nearest Saturday)
would be a good date.

Hi,

As mentioned on Tuesday, we are going to have a small house warming
party at my new place in Kingswells on Saturday. We will be going from
about 1900 until it is substantially Sunday.

I know Kingswells is a little out of the way, but there is plenty of
room for people that want or need to crash. If not buses run until about
3 in the morning back into the city.

Anyone that wants to join us can contact me via email/irc for the

Hello Hackers,

The Hackerspace is going camping, again. campGND is a weekend long camping
festival for hackers and makers run for and by members of 57NorthHacklab. Which
is now about two weeks away.

When: 20th, 21st, 22nd, arriving Friday afternoon, leaving on Sunday about noon
Where: Fish Farm on the Burn of Forgue, AB54 7XD

On site there will be:
- Pitches for tents
- Power (maybe)
- Internet connected Wifi (sometimes)

You will need:
- A tent (your own, a space in someone elses or a place to sleep)
- Entertainment (things to do for a day and a half)
- Food, drink, entertainment
- A head torch, torch, some sort of area light

We should be able to coordinate lifts out to the farm for those without cars,
the 57north-discuss list is the best place for this.

You understand bitcoin is a digital currency?

The next option is a laptop, honestly I have no idea how this particular
machine works. Or any of the bitcoin machines.

You probably just need a qr code, but without a computer you
control(smartphones are computers too) you won't be able to verify the

If you head to Glasgow to use a bitcoin atm there will probably be
either someone or some written material explaining how to use it.
