There used to be another at http://hjem.get2net.dk/atte/lovsang/input.php
where you could choose between several programs, but that's gone too. Pity.

It's equivalent to a 'turn' ,
The note above the main note;
The main note;
The note below the main note;
The main note.
{B}A{G}A

A long roll has the main note played before the turn. A{B}A{G}A

But the constraints of any particular instrument and personal taste cause it
to be modified a lot.

You seem to be saying that there are thousands of tunes written in abc with
!---! decorations.
Are they on the web? If so where please?

The reason the thread is lasting so long is that not everyone would be happy
with this.
The use of abc for printing classical etc music is fairly recent and is to
be encouraged but not if it messes up the abc of the original folk users. I
vote to change the !--! usage to *--* or some other unused symbol.

I'm not saying that these things are not useful. I just think that the use
of "!" for two different purposes is a mistake.

I may be wrong but I think

- abc2win is used by more people than the abc2ps family (my only evidence is
asking around.)

- there are more files using "!" for a linebreak than for a !---! command.

- abc2win was the first program to use the "!"

My take on the subject is

Most of the musicians I know who use abc

1) are not members of this list.
2) are not computer programmers
3) do not know how to alter faulty abc files.
4) would not know how to use command driven programs.
5) use ABC2WIN to display the abc as score (I once met a banjo player who
liked Muse because you can produce tablature.)

If this small sample is representative of the rest of the world then any
files produced using the !! format is going to puzzle a lot of people.

Remember the original use of abc is to share simple folk tunes on computer
systems, the idea of using it as a typesetting program came later, is a
minority facility and should not be allowed to mess up existing material.

[abcusers] Queen of Sheba

Has anyone got the abc for the "Arrival of the
Queen of Sheba". I've started to type it but it occurs to me that it might
already exist.

Thanks

Do you remember the sites or the filenames? Maybe someone has them sitting
on their harddrive.

Just a point. Any ABC written "A"a"B"b etc. will play as chords on most
player programs and will sound pretty strange.
But I guess you just want a print-out so it won't matter.

Here we go again... Tony?? Are you out there?

Anyways seems this is leading nowhere, and since I don't know the exactly
correct way of handling this Í propose the following:

1) Let's "vote" about what the opinion is with spam. Do you think it's a
good idea that only subscribers can post here.

2) When that's done and assuming the majority "votes" "yes", I'll Toby a
mail to take the necessary actions.
