2009-11-19 Thread Ravi Paul
The USB version of Vinux is for some reason or the other unavailable
in the official website at the moment. I am nun the less pasting the
link to the download page below:
http://vinux.org.uk/downloads/
in fact, if you go to the home page of the website (
http://vinux.org.uk/ ),
There are links to download Vinux, one of which is the USB version.
By the way, I also found this link:
http://linux.softpedia.com/progDownload/Vinux-Download-43337.html
I used JAWS and found this in the second table (if you are doing the
same, press t twice to find the table) where you will find the
relevant links...
Hope this helps,
Regards, Ravi Paul

 2. As regards your issue with Jaws For Windows version 10, this is a more
complex problem. I suggest you first try using the default switch when
starting Jaws For Windows. This will allow you to run jaws using its default
settings. Try navigating in folders. If you find that your navigation issues
are solved, then all you need to do is to restore jaws to its original
configuration. You can do this by repairing your Jaws For Windows
installation. However, if the above method does not solve the problem, then
things become more complex. What operating system is your computer running?

 hello friends,
i've been playing with jaws10 and have made errors. don't know where.
so its started to behave undesirebly.

for example, i now need to identify the folders and files using
insert uparrow instead of simple movement of arrow keys.
basically, it doesn't speak the listed items in a folder with not
 selected identification.
each time i have to use insert uparrow to begin and do the same
forevery item that are in the list.
please help by suggesting the appropriate changes to be made in
 reconfiguring jaws 10.

also in ms word 2007, the screen is showing the spacemarkers which
however do not come in the print out. but then those are not needed
and so i want to reset them to noraml appearance of word documents.
your help is solicited in this aspect also.

 thanks.

[AI] What SBI Says about Promotion from Clerck to officer cadre.

2009-11-19 Thread Rajender Negi
Hello list member

As per the information disseminated by the Public Information officer of SBI
Through their Ref. No: RTI/2007 dated 26 March 2009 confirm  this matter in the
following way:

Although there is no reservation in promotion from clerical to officers' cadre
in respect of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) none of the eligible
candidates is denied opportunity in the selection process for promotion to
officers' cadre. But the medical fitness standards for visual acuity for
recruitment/promotions to officers' cadre for all the candidates have been
fixed as under:
a)  Refractory corrections: 6/9 for better eye and, 6/12 for worse eye, in
both cases with corrective lenses.
b) Near Vision: N6 or better
c)  Myopia    :(-) 8D or better without lenses.
A candidate whose eye sight has been rectified within this range by refractive
surgery/implantable contract lens would also be acceptable.
d)   Hyper metropia:   + 6.00 or better.
'   A candidate whose eye sight has been rectified within this range by
refractive surgery/implantable contract lens would also be acceptable.
As stated above, there is no reservation in promotion from clerical to
officers' cadre for 'Persons with Disabilities.' Reservation in promotion from
subordinate to clerical cadre is also not there, the direct recruitment in
clerical cadre in our bank being more than 75%.

From the above information personally I understood that visually challenged
persons (specially totally blind persons)  are not eligible to get promotion
from clerical to officer cadre even through the none reservation procedure, it
is amazing  that, one side SBI is giving opportunity to appoint as a PO through
direct recruitment but in another side they are ignoring  the experience holder
of the SBI to promote as a officer.
At the end I can conclude that, in the current scenario, those visually
challenged person who is appointed or willing to appoint as a clerk in the SBI,
don’t think future development through promotion in SBI, but I am sure this
scenario will not remain same, definitely they have to change their attitude by
framing conducive policies towards disabilities.

Rajender

Re: [AI] What SBI Says about Promotion from Clerck to officer cadre.

2009-11-19 Thread SC Vashishth
Dear Rajender,

This is wrong on the face of it for the DOPT Memo of 25 Dec 2005 is amply
clear on this. If the post is identified for a certain disability, the
person with that disability can't be held unfit on the basis of his
disability. The candidate must be given equal opportunity to compete on his
own merit. In fact, the candidate is entitled for reasonable accommodation,
scribe and all other facilities due to him except reservation.

This must be challenged forth with in the appropriate court of law.

in both cases with corrective lenses.
 b)            Near Vision: N6 or better
 c)      Myopia    :(-) 8D or better without lenses.
A candidate whose eye sight has been rectified within this range by
refractive surgery/implantable contract lens would also be acceptable.
 d)  Hyper metropia:  + 6.00 or better.
'  A candidate whose eye sight has been rectified within this range by
refractive surgery/implantable contract lens would also be acceptable.
As stated above, there is no reservation in promotion from clerical to
officers' cadre for 'Persons with Disabilities.' Reservation in promotion
from subordinate to clerical cadre is also not there, the direct recruitment
in clerical cadre in our bank being more than 75%.

From the above information personally I understood that visually challenged
persons (specially totally blind persons)  are not eligible to get promotion
from clerical to officer cadre even through the none reservation procedure,
it is amazing  that, one side SBI is giving opportunity to appoint as a PO
through direct recruitment but in another side they are ignoring  the
experience holder of the SBI to promote as a officer.
At the end I can conclude that, in the current scenario, those visually
challenged person who is appointed or willing to appoint as a clerk in the
SBI, don’t think future development through promotion in SBI, but I am sure
this scenario will not remain same, definitely they have to change their
attitude by framing conducive policies towards disabilities.

 Rajender

[AI] Web capture

2009-11-19 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
I am sure that many of us at some point had the trouble with some
sites when they asked you to enter some letters/numbers shown on an
image. It seems that there is a way to get around it and I am pasting
a message that I received from another list.

Best Regards,

Vetri.

In addition to Firefox with Webvisum, there is another service called
Solona that solves those nasty captchas (not captures. Visit the
Solona site to register and click on the Learn link for a detailed
explanation of how it works. Briefly, using a special tool that you
download from Solona, you create an image file of the captcha and
submit it to Solona, where a sighted human operator, standing by,
decodes it and returns it to you in text format that you can copy and
paste into the appropriate edit field.

Re: [AI] Web capture

2009-11-19 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Hi Vetri,
This kind of information was already posted long time back, say about a year
back or so and I've been using this service quite extensively since then.
However, most of the time these days you would find the status of this
service as turned off, simply because there aren't many volunteers to
perform this job. If any of us can motivate people to do the same, would be
a grateful service for all of us. I'm in direct touch with the site owner,
Bernard, and unfortunately he is these days the only one to be helping solve
the captchas.
Thanks.

[AI] Problem with Jaws Reading Command

2009-11-19 Thread Himanshu Sahu
Hello List Members,
Greetings to all
I am encountering a problem while working on Excel Sheet. Whenever I
type anything in a cell, Jaws speaks the letters or numbers as usual.
But, when I am trying to read it again by using Arrow Keys, it is
speaking “Blank”.
I tried to read it several times by pressing F2; even then the result is same.
However, when I am moving among the cells by pressing “Tab” or “Arrow
Keys”, it is reading the whole contents.

So, the actual problem is that by pressing F2, I am not able to read
the characters of the contents in an Excel Sheet.

Appendix: The version of Excel is: 2003, and for JAWS: 10

Your input on the issue would be highly appreciated.
