Dear Jeevraj, Regarding naming a CD through Nero, what happens in my case is that when I type a different name for a CD instead of My Disk, and try tabbing down to the burn button, I find that Back Button is highlighted instead of Burn Button. To correct that, I have to cancel the whole process and repeat it again without renaming the CD. Only then can I reach the burn button through tab. Is there any remedy for that? Vibhu A Pakistani computer science researcher at the University of Leicester, UK, has looked at the prospects of a technique which could sense the activity of the user with the help of computer software systems. Kamran Taj Pathan’s doctoral study aims to deliver the systems which change according to the situation of the user by using Software Sensors that scan the context of the user. Pathan said: “To facilitate the user with the change of environment computer systems need to be aware of the user’s profile, location, time and activity, to fulfil the user’s own needs in the current context. “Ubiquitous computing refers to the invisible integration of devices into everyday life (Weiser, 1988). One of the fields of ubiquitous computing is context-aware systems which promises to capture the user’s needs and hence the requirements they have on systems. With the mobility of devices this field is becoming more popular”. Currently, activity -- i.e. what a user is doing -- is relevant information traditionally gathered by use of hardware sensors (e.g. tracking devices). The research aims to lessen the burden from the hardware sensors which may be more expensive and will take time to install. Pathan said: “Consider a scenario where a student wants to meet with his supervisor according to a scheduled meeting at 9am in the office. On the day he has come to know, through the system, that the supervisor could not attend due to adverse weather. “With the use of software, the system can obtain the information virtually by a user’s own profile and surrounding systems and can infer the activity by applying rules onto it”. Pathan added: “This will not only help an individual to get the system to behave according to his current needs but will also be useful for Private and Public Organizations (such as Law Enforcement Agencies, Education, Travel, Shopping Centers and Banks etc.) who depend on Collaborative Working Environments to support their users with system that make the computer more ubiquitous”. Dear friends, Namasthee to all. This animated discussion is quite interesting. The spirit behind making efforts to improve one's language abilities is good and should be taken in that spirit. It is for the individuals to act and improve their abilities. After having said as above, it is also necessary to understand why many people, myself included, make spelling mistakes. One, unlike our Indian languages, English spellings do not fully conform to pronounciation. Two, we very often wrongly pronounce English wordsand more often than not our pronounciation carry a tinge of of our mother tongue's accent. I should confess that my ability to spell correctly has improved after I started losing my sight. I should thank my good friend JAWS for this improvement. Also, Mr JAWS has helped me in learning the correct pronounciation( of course excluding our Indian language words). Friends, what should be one's approach on this spellings issue one may decide after reading the following story. A loving husband had to part with his wife, as she was to be sent to her parents house for delivery. At the time of her departure, the husband handed over a bundle of inland post cards and asked her to write him letters everyday. For her convenience he had himself written his full postal adress. Her job was simple, only write the letter and put it in the post box. The wife dutyfully did what she was told by her husband. When she returned back to her husband along with the baby, she scornfully asked why he did not reply to any of her letters. The husband simplypointed his finger to the drawer of his table. On opening the drawer, the wife to her surprise saw all her letters in tact. Her husband, being a school teacher, had corrected the spellings and put marks as 2/10, 3/10, 5/10 and so on with remarks also. Sometimes, very basic words like “Hello”, “computer”, “step”, “guidance”, “could”, “would”, “should”, etc are spelled incorrectly, which though are not big mistakes, but improvement in basic spellings like these will perhaps make it better. Here, I would like to reiterate that the problem with spellings is usually because some of we blind people did not get an access of written material. We do are studies either with audio cassettes, CDs, or EText, and in all of these mediums, our focus does not go on the spellings of the words, which is obvious. Here, I agree that Braille can prove a great tool to improve spellings, as when one intersects his/her fingers on the Braille letter, the spellings automatically keep registering in the mind while reading the text. Some of us tent to take Braille as an old and outmoded medium, but I still feel a great relevance of using Braille. Here, this is more important to know whether the job of language teacher is identified for the blind or not in your state. Actually we at Karnataka also facing the similar problem. Job of any type of school teacher accept the music teacher has not been identified for the blind by the Karnataka government. Even in 2007, when the 1000 of vacancies were advertised for the post of primary school teacher a PIL was filed in Karnataka High Court for recruitment of blind as a primary school teacher as per their reservation quota. And court gave the favourable judgment directing the state government for recruitment of the V.H. persons for the job of primary school teacher as per their reservation quota. But the state government move to the supreme court to stay the judgment and since than the matter is pending in the supreme court neither the stay has been granted nor the afforstated judgment is being implemented. NFB, Karnataka also filed a fresh PIL petition in 2009 while again 4900 vacancies of primary school teachers were advertised and blind persons were bared to apply for these jobs. In its interim order of 29th October 2009 against the said PIL the high court directed the state government to keep at least 49 posts vacant until the final disposal of these petition and accept the applications of qualifying blind persons for the same. Since then the matter is standing in the high court for the next hearing. You would be aware of recent interim order of Mumbai High Court in which the honourable high court has expressed its displeasure on the attitude of the Maharastra Government on the matter of identification of jobs and its time bound review. It may also be helpful in your case as a reference. I am forwarding a copy of this interim order at your personnel mail I.D. We have also filed a new PIL in the matter of appropriate identification of jobs and review of the existing lists, the first hearing of which expected to be scheduled with in two, three days time. Certainly IVR/SMS is good option sir. Actually till now the available information was that for registering SBI Visa debit card you need to have the MCheck app. However today itself from MCheck customer care I came to know that currently all debit cards are not supported. So now at least for SBI users there is no way to recharge online / via mobile unless you use SBI mobile banking. I haven't tried the SMS based mobile banking since it was launched recently but the app again is not accessible due to it's java designing. Honestly Java inaccessibility is a major issue which is troubling me from last few months whether it be on the pc or on phone. Anyways thanks for your response. Hello Friends The first hundred pieces of Buddy are here. The cost of the buddy player after tax is Rs. 4500. Key features include very small size, full and proper DAISY book navigation features, many special features for music listening including various equaliser presets and really good output of music on headphones and amplifiers. Voice note recording and long recording mode. Very good quality of recordings. Three different modes of recording qualities. Internal microphone is good for close voice recordings where as external microphones can be attached for high quality recordings. It has jacks for line-in, microphone and headphones. Changing from USB from computer and also from mains electrisity. The internal speaker is little week thus is usable only in quite rooms. There will be an option of taking extre speaker woth 350 which would not require any additional power and will give loud voice for listening. Earphones are provided with the unit. Buddy has FM radio with auto tune channels etc. The unit currently doesn't have TTS thus you will not be able to read text files directly on the unit but you can always convert text files to audio files before transfering them to the Buddy. Buddy will support SD Card. It has been tested with 16 GB card although documentation says it would support 32 GB card. It has wide colour screen and content of table of contents of DAISY books are shown on the screen. Future upgrades to firmware will support full display of text on the screen. Battery back up is of 15 hours on full charge and charging takes about 2 to 3 hours. People who are interested to participate in the first lot users will get the player at the cost of 4300 instead of 4500. Units are replacable if any faults are found int eh players. This is one of the true Indian development and one of the first product of its kind developed in India itself. In its interim order of 29th October 2009 against the said PIL the high court directed the state government to keep at least 49 posts vacant until the final disposal of these petition and accept the applications of qualifying blind persons for the same. Since then the matter is standing in the high court for the next hearing. You would be aware of recent interim order of Mumbai High Court in which the honourable high court has expressed its displeasure on the attitude of the Maharastra Government on the matter of identification of jobs and its time bound review. We are looking to perform phone-based interviews with users, with the aim of designing a system to address the challenges faced. Hello, Teaching posts in schools and colleges in West Bengal are reserved for vh candidates as per law after Blind Persons' Association moved the Kolkata High Court about 10 years back. I could not locate the original order in our office yesterday. I shall upload a scanned copy if I find it. Pratik Agarwal asked me for it earlier. But I forgot the matter totally. As regards primary teachers, low vision candidates are allowed here. Only yesterday we obtained a notification from the state disability commissioner's office acording to which the Ministry of Social Justice recommended primary teacher's post as a suitable job for blind and low vision persons. If possible, I shall try to find its scanned copy also. However, it should be on the Ministry's web site, at least the survey. NFB, Karnataka also filed a fresh PIL petition in 2009 while again 4900 vacancies of primary school teachers were advertised and blind persons were bared to apply for these jobs. In its interim order of 29th October 2009 against the said PIL the high court directed the state government to keep at least 49 posts vacant until the final disposal of these petition and accept the applications of qualifying blind persons for the same. Since then the matter is standing in the high court for the next hearing. You would be aware of recent interim order of Mumbai High Court in which the honourable high court has expressed its displeasure on the attitude of the Maharastra Government on the matter of identification of jobs and its time bound review. It may also be helpful in your case as a reference. I am forwarding a copy of this interim order at your personnel mail I.D. We have also filed a new PIL in the matter of appropriate identification of jobs and review of the existing lists, the first hearing of which expected to be scheduled with in two, three days time. I did notice the difference and I missed out yesterdays news because of that. I hope that it gets changed soon. As I understand, the website designer is from the US and it may be due to the time zone difference. We can bring this to the editors attention if it does not chage.
