Very interesting, however, we also need to test, if the device is accessible by
touch and in addition to the content provided by them, if it is possible to add
our own content, maybe if there is a possibility of external memory card.

Subject: [AI] Information about commercially available IAS Audio Notes

Hello members,
We have come across a person who has prepared IAS Audio notes in MP3
player. It has more than 50 hours of notes for IAS, State Civil Services
and All India Competitive Exams (prelims and main). It includes General
Studies subjects on India and English paper Essays.
We have checked it and the recording quality is professional (prepared by
radio/ T V artists) and content has been prepared by a team of Senior Civil
Service Officers and Management Experts. Additionally, they will provide
more than 2 hours of Updates every month.
It has been packaged for commercial sale at 3150 rupees, along with the mp3
player. The memory card has been sealed and locked inside the player, so it
can't be copied.
If there is a requirement from our community, we can try to negotiate with
the person.
Those who are interested can write back to us offline.

innocuous-seeming circumstances in which the rape occurred, the

added fuel to the fire.

Before addressing this issue, I offer my sincere prayers for the
departed soul of the victim and my heartfelt condolences to her
bereaved and traumatized family. Gita wisdom teaches us that all of us
are relatives, connected in God’s all-encompassing family. So we are
all together in getting over this tragedy.

The Delhi horror underscores undeniably that our female citizens
absolutely require much better security. We need a more vigilant
police force, prompter help-lines, and stronger and swifter
punishments for sexual assaulters.

Yet will better security be enough? Might our society be suffering
from a more deep-rooted malaise of which this gruesome rape is an
intolerably stinking symptom? After all, the news periodically reports
incidents of scary sexual violence. School-teacher extracting sexual
favors from a girl-student in the classroom; father having incest with
his daughter in the presence of his son; mother and daughter hacking
to death a man with whom both had an affair these are the headlines
from just a week’s news.

Surely something is terribly wrong in our society, but what is it?

The topic of sexual assault is complex; sociologists include anger,
power and sadism among its causes. Here, I will focus on one important
aspect that has been largely overlooked by the media but is illumined
by Vedic wisdom.

The little-discussed Shurapanakha factor

In the Vedic tradition, the demon Ravana, the villain of the Ramayana,
is the emblem of lust. Ravana was so dominated by lust that he would
abduct beautiful women wherever he found them and force them to join
his harem. He even raped a relative, the celestial nymph Rambha, who
was married to his nephew. Thereafter he was cursed to die if he ever
raped any other women again. So, when he abducted Sita for enjoying
her sexually, he threatened to kill and eat her if she didn’t
voluntarily comply. Thus, for the sake of gratifying his sexual
appetite he had a proclivity to rape and to commit other types of
horrible violence against women. He finally met his just end when he
was given capital punishment by Lord Rama.

The perversity of Ravana is widely known, but a crucial detail
underlying his perversity is less known. The Ramayana describes that
though Ravana was initially allured by thoughts of possessing Sita, he
gave up his evil intentions when he was told about the unmatchable
power of Rama. However, when his malicious sister Shurapanakha incited
him by describing Sita’s beauty explicitly and provocatively, he lost
all sense and courted self-destruction. Shurapanakha had her own
scores to settle and she used Ravana as her pawn by inciting him.

The Ramayana, in addition to being an ancient history, features
characters who are prototypes for perennial themes. In our current
context, Ravana obviously symbolizes sexual perverts like the Delhi
rapists. What does Shurapanakha symbolize? She symbolizes the forces
that incite people sexually and make them behave in Ravana-like ways.

The modern Shurapanakha

Today’s primary sexual inciter, the modern Shurapanakha, is the
commercial world that uses sex to sell its products. The commercial
world knows that sex is the best sales tool because nothing catches
people’s attention and triggers their imagination as much as sex. So
it exploits sex as its ubiquitous marketer and fills our culture with
sexually provocative images.

This commercial exploitation of sex is all the more flagrant in the
entertainment industry, especially Hollywood and Bollywood, where sex
is arguably the most glamorized product on sale. And the modern
Shurapanakha is at its blatant worst as the pornography industry,
where sex, even brutal sex, is the only product on sale. Commercial
porn websites, magazines, books, videos, DVDs, cable television, etc.
comprise one of the most lucrative global industries. In the United
States alone, porn revenue is larger than the combined revenues of all
professional football, baseball and basketball franchises.

Due to this massive commercial exploitation, sex is thrust upon us
from all directions TV, theaters, internet, magazines and
billboards. Practically wherever we look, sexually provocative images
are pushed into our eyes. The way human culture has become sexualized
in the last several decades has no precedent in world history.

The Deadly Consequence of Liberalization

for which purpose have you tried using it? I am trying to use for

We have checked it and the recording quality is professional (prepared by
radio/ T V artists) and content has been prepared by a team of Senior
 Civil
Service Officers and Management Experts. Additionally, they will provide
more than 2 hours of Updates every month.
It has been packaged for commercial sale at 3150 rupees, along with the
 mp3
player. The memory card has been sealed and locked inside the player, so
 it
 can't be copied.
If there is a requirement from our community, we can try to negotiate
 with
 the person.
Those who are interested can write back to us offline.

 Thanks Regards,

 Mitra Jyothi

[AI] Moderator: RE: book

2013-01-10 Thread Kotian, H P
All
Just to again warn, in the last few days, action had been taken for asking a
copy of books to them too. This should have been sent directly to the person
concerned and not put to the list.

Again, action had been taken for off-postings on the list. Response to all of
them have not been explicitly done on the list for each case as it makes no
sense saying it so many times. If those who fail to understand it so many
times, they would in all probability not understand the signifance of the list
guidance again and again.

I echo the views by Rajesh. If a High Court has ruled in favour of
candidates set the things right, all candidates across the nation get
 that
relief. The court in this matter has not excluded others from the benefit
by declaring it as a special case. On the contrary, it has held the
 process
untenable, thus there is no need to file any PIL or individual writs.

By filing multiple writs in different High Courts, please don't invites
situations for conflicting orders from different courts putting the
 Kerala
HC decision in peril and making UGC consider moving SC for
 clarifications.
We are not aware of UGC going against the Kerala HC judgement meaning
thereby that the order has achieved finality.

Another question is how do a person know that there is already an order
from some HC on a matter that affects him. This list serves a
very important purpose of keeping all of us informed.
Lets resolve to bring to the notice of all any new development happening
 in
the courts any where in India - be it as PIL or an individual writ
answering substantial questions of law, interpretation or policies
affecting the persons with disabilities in general.

Kerala HC has already ruled that the said notification fixing the
cumulative criteria afterwards is bad in law and has given a ruling in
 favor of candidates.
So, why must the same case be fought in other states to secure the
 similar
 ruling for all candidates?
Actually, UGC must have given benefit of the decision to all candidates
automatically, or Kerala HC must have directed it to do so.
Agreed that Writ petition is filed by an aggrieved individual, but it
 is
a waste of grossest kind to ask each candidate to fight separately, when

 a
 provision is affecting many persons.
PIL would have been a better remedy, perhaps.

Subject: (WorldOpinion) High court's last chance for University Grants
Commission to name National Eligibility Test criteria:

Vaibhav Ganjapure, TNN Jan 8, 2013, 02.26AM IST

NAGPUR: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday came under fire
from the Nagpur bench of Mumbai high court for its failure to come clear

 on
the issue of fixing eligibility criteria for the National Eligibility
 Test
(NET). A division bench comprising justices AP Lavande and Arun
 Chaudhari
granted two weeks to the apex education body as the final chance to
 decide
its policy. The judges further warned that it will proceed with orders,
 if
UGC fails to file a reply within the stipulated period, and asked UGC
officials to be present at the next hearing.

The court's stringent orders came while hearing a plea filed by
 Gokulpeth
resident Sayalee Surjuse, who has challenged a UGC notification imposing
minimum qualifying criteria for NET conducted on June 24 last year. The
test is conducted simultaneously across the country for various subjects
for lectureship and junior research fellowship (JRF).

Citing UGC's notification on its website, petitioner's counsel Trupti
Udeshi said the candidate had to score 40% in first two pears and 50% in
the third. She contended that there was no mention of the necessity to
score above a specified aggregate of all three papers, which will be the
criteria for final qualification. She also said that this criteria was
never communicated till the declaration of the result.

When NET results were declared on September 18, Sayalee was declared
failed. It was only after she enquired that she came to know that UGC
 had
fixed 65% aggregate criteria for the qualification. She claimed to have
scored 59.43% aggregate in all three papers and also cleared them
individually. Citing scheme of exam by UGC, she demanded that she should

 be
 declared successful.

She sought directives from the court to quash the UGC notification of
 June
24 fixing the eligibility criteria NET at 65% aggregate for general
category by holding it arbitrary, illegal and unsustainable in law.

The judges pulled up UGC for its lacklustre approach
