Re: [AI] Urgent help required regarding formatting on MS word

2013-06-05 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafel
Hi, Amiyo, please tell me that what is use of f6 key in footnotes?
Tell me another thing if you have any knowledge, suppose I want to
edit footnote number 12, is there any way to land directly upon
footnotes number 12 so that i could edit it? what generally i do, I go
on such footnote manually by pressing down arrow.

On 6/4/13, Amiyo Biswas amiyo.bis...@gmail.com wrote:
Perhaps footnotes are not available with unformatted text, at least, not in

 word 2003.

I don't find any problem in inserting a footnote in word 2003. I always use

the footnote submenu under insert / reference. It places the note perfectly.

I just read an edit these notes using the f6 key. For positioning them, I
always depend on the insert / reference / footnotes dialogue box.

Let us know if you find some better option.

Hi Amiyo, thanks very much for teaching me these two new things of
 which I was unaware.
But still I am struck with the problem relating to the footnotes. As I
am copying all text by pressing control+A, and pasting it as
unformatted text by choosing paste special under edit menue,
footnotes are not being copied, only the text is coming. Hi members
 any clue?

I use Word 2003 with Jaws 14. I am trying to explain the steps I follow:
 1. For changing case of selected text in ms word, go to format menu,
 change

case submenu and activate your option. For shortcut, press alt+o followed

 by

 e. Then press one of the following, u for uppercase, l for lowercase, s
 for

sentence case, t for title case or g for toggle case.

The key sequence should alsow work in word 2007.

 2. For selecting a sentence or any portion of a word document follow
 these
 steps:

Just keep your curser on the starting character from where you want to
 begin

 copying, press control + windows + k.

Jaws will say marking place after that simpally press down erro until
 you

reach to the end of the paragraph or the text which you want to select.

Press jaws key + space bar.

You will hear a tip sound then press m.

Jaws will say selecting between marked place and current position.

Press control + c to copy the text to clipboard.

As regards footnotes, I never noticed such problems. Maybe someone on
 the
 list will help.

Subject: [AI] Urgent help required regarding formatting on MS word

Hi learned members I am writing my dissertation these days, while
working on MS word both 2003/2007 I am facing various problems .
Please guide me upon the following issues to resolve this trouble.
 1. What is the key combination for doing selected words into small if
 those are in capital?
 2. Is there any way for selecting whole sentence?
 3. I am facing lot of problems while working on footnotes. after
insurting footnotes, there is a gap of one or two lines between each
footnote or after two or three footnotes? I don't know how this gap
can be removed as I am unable to remove this gap by pressing back
space key after selecting the blank space between two footnotes.
 4. I want to copy and paste a document from one place to another
specially as unformatted text, so that I could format it as according
to me, but by pasting specially as unformatted text, the footnotes of
copied documents are being removed and only the text is being pasted,
please help me in this regard as how can I paste the document
specially as unformatted text so that the footnotes also could be
 pasted.
 5. When ever I am in the area of footnotes for editing it, the jaws
works very slow, it responds very late, what is the problem?

Its like forum structure actually. Guess the website is still under

As far as sending private message is concerned, you go to private

Re: [AI] Urgent help required regarding formatting on MS word

2013-06-05 Thread Amiyo Biswas
In word 2003 I can use the f6 key to move between the document pane and the
footnote pane. Once in the footnote pane I can use arrow keys to navigate
and edit text.

However, it does not seem to work in word 2007. Here and also in word 2003,
I can reach the footnotes in the print layout view. In this view go to the
end of the page containing the footnote.

Now press down arrow and you will find the footnotes. You can edit and
format text here also.

It is a bit tricky. It needs trial and error method.

I just read an edit these notes using the f6 key. For positioning them, I
always depend on the insert / reference / footnotes dialogue box.

Let us know if you find some better option.

by

2013-06-05 Thread Amiyo Biswas
I can't do it in notepad. I copy the entire text in ms word and then use the
find and replace method. I use the code ^p to indicate a paragraph break.
For instance, replace 3 ^p with 2 ^p code. Try it on and on until word makes
0 replacement.

[AI] Want to be a millionaire? Try solving this tricky math problem!

2013-06-05 Thread David Richards
Dear all Access Indians, if you want to be a millionaire, you can try and solve
this tricky math problem! A billionaire Dallas banker will shell out $1 million
to anyone who can solve the Beal Conjecture that has baffled geniuses for
years. The American Mathematics Society (AMS) in Rhode Island has announced
that the prize for the solution to the Beal Conjecture, a number theory
problem, has been increased to $1 million. The prize and Conjecture are named
for D Andrew Andy Beal, the Dallas billionaire, who has a strong interest in
number theory and who provided the funds for the Beal Prize. The prize will be
awarded for either a proof of, or a counterexample to, the Beal Conjecture. To
earn the Beal Prize, a proposed solution must be published in a refereed
mathematical publication which is respected and, in the opinion of the prize
committee (selected by the AMS) maintains the highest editorial standards. I
plead with you all not to ask me a baffling question as to what the Beal Con
jecture is. I'm not a mathematical genius, Please refer to Wikipedia and
Encyclopedia for the definition of Beal Conjecture. Kindly release the solution
first to me before publishing the solution in the mathematical publication! I
wish one of our Access Indians become a millionaire very soon.
Warm regards.
David Richards.

[AI] it may be hellpful device

2013-06-05 Thread nitin patel
dear all,
forwording this information wich i got from onother list.

-- Forwarded message --
From: Ankit Jindal

scientist in Israel is developing this wonderful device, it may be
helpful for visually impairs.

Ms. Negrin, who has coloboma, a birth defect that perforates a
structure of the eye and afflicts about 1 in 10,000 people, is an
employee at OrCam, an Israeli start-up that has developed a
camera-based system intended to give the visually impaired the ability
to both “read” easily and move freely.

Until now reading aids for the visually impaired and the blind have
been cumbersome devices that recognize text in restricted
environments, or, more recently, have been software applications on
smartphones that have limited capabilities.

In contrast, the OrCam device is a small camera worn in the style of
Google Glass, connected by a thin cable to a portable computer
designed to fit in the wearer’s pocket. The system clips on to the
wearer’s glasses with a small magnet and uses a bone-conduction
speaker to offer clear speech as it reads aloud the words or object
pointed to by the user.

The system is designed to both recognize and speak “text in the wild,”
a term used to describe newspaper articles as well as bus numbers, and
objects as diverse as landmarks, traffic lights and the faces of
friends.

It currently recognizes English-language text and beginning this week
will be sold through the company’s Web site for $2,500, about the cost
of a midrange hearing aid. It is the only product, so far, of the
privately held company, which is part of the high-tech boom in Israel.

The device is quite different from other technology that has been
developed to give some vision to people who are blind, like the
artificial retina system called Argus II, made by Second Sight Medical
Products. That system, which was approved by the Food and Drug
Administration in February, allows visual signals to bypass a damaged
retina and be transmitted to the brain.

By Amnon Shashua
Liat Negrin, an employee at OrCam who has limited sight, demonstrates
the Orcam device, which helps her cross streets, read menus and shop
at the supermarket.

The OrCam device is also drastically different from Google Glass,
which also offers the wearer a camera but is designed for people with
normal vision and has limited visual recognition and local computing
power.

OrCam was founded several years ago by Amnon Shashua, a well-known
researcher who is a computer science professor at Hebrew University
here. It is based on computer vision algorithms that he has pioneered
with another faculty member, Shai Shalev-Shwartz, and one of his
former graduate students, Yonatan Wexler.

“What is remarkable is that the device learns from the user to
recognize a new product,” said Tomaso Poggio, a computer scientist at
M.I.T. who is a computer vision expert and with whom Dr. Shashua
studied as a graduate student. “This is more complex than it appears,
and, as an expert, I find it really impressive.”

The advance is the result of both rapidly improving computing
processing power that can now be carried comfortably in a wearer’s
pocket and the computer vision algorithm developed by the scientists.

On a broader technology level, the OrCam system is representative of a
wide range of rapid improvements being made in the field of artificial
intelligence, in particular with vision systems for manufacturing as
well as fields like autonomous motor vehicles. (Dr. Shashua previously
founded Mobileye, a corporation that supplies camera technology to the
automobile industry that can recognize objects like pedestrians and
bicyclists and can keep a car in a lane on a freeway.)

Speech recognition is now routinely used by tens of millions of people
on both iPhones and Android smartphones. Moreover, natural language
processing is making it possible for computer systems to “read”
documents, which is having a significant impact in the legal field,
among others.

There are now at least six competing approaches in the field of
computer vision. For example, researchers at Google and elsewhere have
begun using what are known as “deep learning” techniques that attempt
to mimic biological vision systems. However, they require vast
computing resources for accurate recognition.

In contrast, the OrCam technique, which was described in a technical
paper in 2011 by the Hebrew University researchers, offers a
reasonable trade-off between recognition accuracy and speed. The
technique, known as Shareboost, is distinguished by the fact that as
the number of objects it needs to recognize grows, the system
minimizes the amount of additional computer power required.

“The challenges are huge,” said Dr. Wexler, a co-author of the paper
and vice president of research and development at OrCam. “People who
have low vision will continue to have low vision, but we want to
harness computer science to help them.”

Additionally the OrCam system is designed to have a minimal control

the reference guide for the training containing essential information
on various topics to be covered in the training.

In this tutorial useful tips for using common applications with the
NUANCE TALKS screen reading software have been provided. Please note
that this is not a complete manual and does not contain description of
all the features or functions of TALKS or the Symbian mobile phones.

This document contains excerpts and references the following manuals.
Readers should refer to these documents for more information on the
topics contained in this tutorial.
- NOKIA C5-00 User Guide
- Nuance Talks Zooms Manual
- DAISY2go Manual

Visually impaired can use the advanced features of the smart phone

The smart phone can be a great aid in independent living, education
recreation for the visually impaired

Any of the following will work -
 NOKIA phones with TALKS/MOBILE SPEAK
 Phones Tablets based on Android 2.3 and upwards
 iPhone and iPads
 Blackberry (only “Curve” models with certain limitations)

Customize the TALKS screen reading application as per your taste

• Speech rate
• Typing echo
• Reading of punctuations
• Change voice
• Verbosity
• More…

TALKS Phone basics
For mobile phones without a touch screen, the Nuance Accessibility
Suite does not change the user interface, except for the following:
• One key is used to initiate TALKSZOOMS commands. By default, this
can be the [Edit], [Menu], or the [Chr] key, depending upon the actual
handset. We will refer to this as the [TALKS] key from now on.
• The various S60 3rd Edition phones have many of the same keys. Among
these are two “soft” keys, which are located below the display. A soft
key varies in function; it performs the function described in the
label that appears above it in the display. In this guide, the left
soft key is called [Key 1], and the right soft key is called [Key 2].
• [Up], [Down], [Left], [Right]: Navigate through menus by moving the
joystick upward, downward, to the left, or to the right. This guide

[AI] Happy Birthday Talking ATM

2013-06-05 Thread Mr. Banker
Exceeding the needs of the customers is the catchword of all the
enterprises but the inference of those words does not seem to be more
than a cliché. It rarely happens that this ambitious commitment is
fulfilled, and by launching the first truly accessible Sampurna
Talking ATM for the visually impaired on Jun. 6th, 2012 at Vastrapur,
Ahmedabad – in the Indian state of Gujrat – the Union Bank of India
has fulfilled this commitment in full letter and spirit. Proving that
they stand by their motto “Good people to bank with“ the bank also
offers comprehensive instructions manuals in braille and DAISY formats
to its visually impaired customers.

[AI] it may be hellpful device

2013-06-05 Thread David Richards
Dear all Access Indians, as the caption of the article reads, the firsthand
experience with OrCam device mustn't be hellish in anyway at all! All the same
a Himalayan thanks to Nitin Patel for introducing the same article featured in
The New York Times for the benefit of Access Indians on Access India domain. I
extend my sincere thanks on behalf of Access India family to amnon Shashua,
the professor at Hebrew University and his team for inventing OrCam device, a
marvelous device which could unfold unlimited possibilities to
visually-challenged people for seeing the world with artificial vision for
every-day activities. If ever I get to use that device in the future, I'll
definitely remember Nitin Patel for holding the distinction of being the first
to introduce the OrCam device on Access India domain. Well-done Nitin Patel!
Warm regards.

Re: [AI] need railway concession form urgently

2013-06-05 Thread Kotian, H P
Dear Sayed

You must have got the circular where the Railways are issuing the new identidy
card for disabled persons for availing concessions.
Would you please share the same on the list. The news item mentioned that the
same is issued by the DM's office. It will not be practical for every disabled
persons to go in person to the DM's office and can the same be obtained with
any station master and can it also be submitted there?

Please get this clarified and let us know.

Harish Kotian

Subject: [Nfbnet-master-list] We Need Your Videos

Dear Friends,

In less than two weeks, representatives of almost two hundred countries
will meet in Marrakesh, Morocco, to consider adopting a treaty that will
make it legally possible for printed copyrighted materialslike books,
magazines, textbooks, and job training coursesto be converted to formats
that the blind and print disabled can use AND, critically, for those
accessible materials to be easily shared across national boundaries for
the first time in history. Successfully negotiating this
treaty is, therefore, vital to every blind and print-disabled person,
their families, friends, and employers the world over. For
tens of millions around the world desperately trying to learn and earn
themselves out of crushing poverty, it may actually mean the difference
between a life of hope and opportunity or one of misery and despair.

Unfortunately, enormously powerful corporationsmostly in the United
States and the European Unionrecently have made clear their intention to
block adoption of the treaty, or to make it so complicated and burdensome
for the providers of accessible materials that the treaty’s goal of
ending the worldwide “book famine” for the blind will be thwarted.
You have the power to stop them.

Please, take just a few minutes today to sit down in front of a video
camera and tell us about yourself, your struggles to obtain books and
other materials and what the treaty would mean to you or someone you care
about. Just follow the few easy steps below and we will work to be
sure that your video is seen by scores of journalists, hundreds of
delegates to the treaty conference in Marrakesh, and by millions of
internet users around the globe.

Tell
the chairmen and CEOs of some of the world’s biggest companies to drop
their opposition to a treaty that doesn't legally affect them but means
everything to you. Please do it today! Here’s how . . .

***MARRAKESH TREATY APPEAL VIDEO STEP-BY-STEP***

Your video absolutely should be in your own words! Please follow
these easy step-by step suggestions and brief outline for your comments,
however, so that we can effectively merge your video story with others’
for the highest impact:

1. Find a quiet place to record so we can hear everything you
say. Outdoors is fine, but windy or noisy locations should be
avoided;

2. Stand or sit as far from the camera as it takes for just your
head and body above the waist to be seen on camera. Closer or
further won't be as helpful;

3. Start with this exact “lead-in,” please: “My name is
___ and I live in ___(City) (State). I strongly
support the Books Without Borders copyright treaty.”

4. Then, please tell us what kind of print disability you (or the
family member or friend you’re speaking about) have;

5. Briefly explain what kind of books or other materials you (or
they) would like to be able to get but can't, and what having those
materials would mean to you. Anything important to youeducation, job
training, hobbies is important to us!

6. Finally, to end your video, please record exactly as written
below all three of the brief personal appeals to the powerful
chief executives whose companies are leading sophisticated coalition
efforts to block the Marrakesh treaty. (No need to read the a), b)
c) headings of course!) We will work to have your voice echo around
the world:

a) General Electric [CEO name pronounced “Im” like image +
“melt”]

“Mr. Immelt, I need a strong Marrakesh copyright treaty to get books I
can read. Almost 300 million people around the world need it even
more. General Electricthe company you runis blocking books
for the blind in Marrakesh. As CEO, you can stop that. Please
stop it NOW!”

b) Adobe [CEO name pronounced “Na – rye – in”]

“Mr. Narayen, I need a strong Marrakesh copyright treaty to get books I
can read. Almost 300 million people around the world need it even
more. Adobethe company you runis blocking books for the blind in
Marrakesh. As CEO, you can
