Subject: Re: [AI] disfunction the mouse in Lenevo

Actually in lenovo there is no direct key combination which disables
the mouse pad, however in other machines this key combination is
successfully operative. Nonetheless the following methods may be
useful for instant help, please write your machine type and model
number so that I could help spesifically.
Method No. 1, while using this method you will have to take help of a
 sighted friend,
Shutdown your laptop then power it on. When the ThinkPad logo comes
up, immediately press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. If your
system has a admin password set then you'll need to type it in when
requested. Now use the cursor keys to navigate the menus until you
find the one that relates to the TouchPad. Toggle the setting from
Enabled to Disabled. The press ESC until you get back to the Main
Menu. Now Save the updated BIOS settings and then Reboot to Windows.
Be careful that you don't inadvertently change any other BIOS
 settings.

Method. 2, Press Fn+F8 A pop up will appear UltraNav device settings
Chose the second option which says Enable track point only (disable
 touch
 pad)

 Method 3,
 Click on Windows Start Button

 Go to Control Panel
 Choose Mouse
A pop up screen of Mouse Properties
 Choose UltraNav tab
Uncheck Enable TouchPad. How ever you can use these method number 2
and 3, if you have altra nav software on your laptop.

You can permanently disable the touchpad or disable it. To do so,
navigate to the Start menu and select
the Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware and Mouse. Select
the Device Select tab. Select the Disable device radio button
 under the Touch pad.

The download link is:

[AI] Help required with JAWS 14 on Windows 8

2013-12-11 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Hi

I have recently started using Windows 8 on Lenovo Thinkpad 420 and as
expected there are some glitches that I am facing.

Firstly, JAWS is speaking extra, like if enter the folder it gives
extra info which is not even fathomable.

Secondly, I installed Australian and UK female vocalisers but they are
not really great. Can you suggest any better?

Thirdly and most importantly; I need to extract data from from some
sides, where I need to select a calendar date in a “read only edit
box” is necessary. I could deal with it earlier using web ie, an
accessible browser, but couldn’t find its version for Windows 8.
Therefore, please suggest a way to solve it. I am pasting a sample RBI
link where currency rates for a range of dates are required. Please
see if you can help me.

Sample link for RBI currency spots
http://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/ReferenceRateArchive.aspx

Fourthly, do share a link or a document to optimise JAWS usage on
Windows 8. Like avoiding extra talking etc.

Thanks and regards
Ekinath

Add unnecessary words in the JAWS dictionary to stop JAWS speaking
those words which you do not want to hear.

Try Tom vocalizer voice. I find this voice much better compared to
other vocalizer voices.

Rameshji,

I suppose, you are refering to older usual i-card pass. For that you
can visit NAB at VOrli or even BPA at Ray Road (But not very sure).
Carry your passport size photographs and blindness certificate from
government hospital.

The new i-card promised by Railways for online concessional bookings
is yet not out.

Re: [AI] Announcing the AI convention dates

2013-12-11 Thread avinash shahi
Though 25th November passed long ago, nonetheless few suggestions if
could be fitted in the agenda.

1) Popular Linguistic expression hinders inclusion of blind people
Little background
In India how you are taught to learn and behave in life is essentially
on the bases of immages you watch. And people exhibit tangential
characteristics while interacting with blind people. Interestingly,
majority of blind people have themselves internalised linguistic usage
which practically makes no sense to them. Think for a while,
expressions like: 'See you tomorrow' and 'watching movie'. We have
hundreds of gods and godessess and all look different from each other
but how Indians have distinguished these gods? only on the bases of
their idol. Moreover in most parts of western world art of
listening/hearing has prevailed over images. Remember gospel? and
sermon on the mount?
What I wish to convey that we need to mainstream linguistic usage
which suits and adheres to our normes and makes us comfortable in
society.

2) Disability and Political Citizenship
Internationally disabled activists are rallying with slogans like
Nothing about us without us and that needs to be reflected in our
country in political representation. We have elections at multiple
layers: panchayats, municipalities, state assemblies and national
legislature but where are disabled and their concerns?

Further many have already discussed other important issues so no more
suggestions. And will try to attend the convention for the first time
if my already fixed trip to western India stands postponed during that
period.

This is an early announcement, which means, the date and the venue is fixed.
The dates of the convention is February 15 and 16 2014.Venue India Islamic
 center, New Delhi.

You can gear yourself to do the necessary bookings for those out of Delhi.

The convention partner is the vibrant Score foundation.
We have aligned the dates to facilitate participating in Techshare of
 Barrier-break which falls on Feb13-14.

Continuing with our tradition, we leave the floor open to members to draw
the agenda of the convention. We will do our best to find suitable resource

So, let us have the topics. It is your chance to write the agenda. This
should come to us by November 25th .
