Re: [AI] (AI) Info on Lex scanner

2016-09-12 Thread mukesh jain
hello,
yes, you can surely go for it. i have personally experienced its
efficiency from few of my friends and its certainly worth recommended.

i am using the products offered by Sparsh Products called Readit
Scholar HD which has some more additional features offered by lexcam
for instance, scanning with A3 size and additional magnification
features for low vision. except these features, lexcam is perfectly
efficient to handle your needs to scan the pages up to a4 size paper.
also if you are individual user, i would not recommend you to go for
Readit Scholar HD as its very expensive.

you can surely rely upon the commitments given in the brochure of
lexcam and its fully commited to whatever is written in it.

hope this helps.

Re: [AI] issue related to mouse over links

2016-09-12 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
I too have faced similar issues with clickable elemantts as well as
mouse over links. Sometimes, the clickables would get activated with
enter or spacebar, sometimes they don't. I have found that on
InternetExplorer, they most often do work, while on Chrom, as well as
on Firefox, the functionality is very limited. Don't know if there is
a workaround. Would be great if someone can help.

Once you become a member of one organization through Sugamya
Pustakalaya you can log in and then apply for membership of more

Note that you must log in with your password and then go to Libraries

and then choose the library of which you want to become a member now.
And Bookshare members also need to register on Sugamya Pustakalay.
Bookshare membership will allow them to download all bookshare
 titles through Sugamya Pustakalaya.
They need not search separately on Bookshare website. Just search
for your desired title in Sugamya Pustakalay and you will get it
whether it is uploaded by Bookshare or any other Indian organization.

[AI] Rith Basu reports: Maidan debut for blind football

2016-09-12 Thread avinash shahi
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1160912/jsp/calcutta/story_107687.jsp#.V9ZJKBYkpYc
The players were wearing blindfold, the ball made a jingling noise,
the goal was smaller than usual and almost everyone on the pitch and
on the sidelines shouted every few seconds.

A motley crowd had gathered on the Maidan on Sunday morning to watch
eight blind young men play football. The ground was slushy, there were
collisions galore and passes often did not reach their destination but
a smile never left the lips of the players, enjoying their rare moment
in the sun.

The match that saw Bengal defeat reigning national champions Kerala in
a tiebreaker marked the Maidan debut of blind football at a time eight
teams are fighting it out at the Paralympics in Rio.

The five-a-side sport is played in 40mX20m arena, just like futsal,
and has rolling substitutions like basketball.

A small crowd that had gathered around the Parsee Club off Mayo Road,
where the 25-minutes-a-half match was played, broke into applause
every time a shot was on target.

"It's unbelievable how they (the players) are able to understand where
the goalpost is or even where the ball is. What they are doing is
amazing," declared Sutirtha Basu, a young cricketer who had stopped to
watch the action.

He was also fascinated seeing that when someone fell in a collision,
the other person stopped to pick him up, foregoing the advantage he
would have had if he just carried on.

Bengal and India defender Goutam Dey, 26, who made many crucial
interceptions in the match, explained that the four blind players in
each team visualised the goalposts, the position of the other players
and the position of the ball by just keeping their ears open to:

• Jingling sound made by the ball

• "Voy" (I am here, in Spanish), which every player except the one
with the ball calls out every two seconds

• Instructions from the goalkeeper, who is sighted, and two "guides"
from outside the field (see chart).Apart from the goalkeeper, the
players in each team are blind and wear a blindfold to offset any
possible visual advantage.

The match was organised by the Kochi-based Society for Rehabilitation
of the Visually Challenged (SRVC) and two city organisations working
with the blind in association with the Calcutta Ladies Circle 3.

The game has taken the likes of Dey and Gautam Bind - who starred in
Sunday's triumph for Bengal - to Spain, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan
to participate in multi-nation tournaments. They have done well enough
in such meets, which started in 2013, to be ranked 25 by the
International Blind Sports Federation.

The players are, however, not sure how long they will be able play the
game as they don't have jobs and earn nothing from the sport.

Lack of funding was evident in the absence of sideboards, which are
basic to a blind football arena, at Sunday's game. The 1m-high board
is kept at 15 degree angle, leaning backwards along both touchlines.
This helps knock the ball back into the field, so there is no
throw-in.

In the absence of the sideboards, Sunday's match saw kick-ins.

"Sideboards cost Rs 3 lakh," said M.C. Roy of Kerala Blind Football
Federation, which has a facility with sideboards in Kochi.

Coaches and officials of both teams stressed the need to popularise
the game. "Blind soccer is played at some schools and organisations in
and around the city but there is no system in place for talent
scouting," said Asif Iqbal of the Welfare Society for the Blind, who
liaised with the SRVC to organise the match.

Two organisations from Bengal used to send a team each to the
nationals till last year. This year they came together to send one
team to the nationals in Kochi, where they lost to Kerala in the
semis, the same team they defeated on Sunday.

A match in progress between Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir during the
blind cricket tournament.

Rachna Khaira

Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, September 11
It was 2.30 pm on Sunday and blind cricketers from Punjab and Jammu
and Kashmir who had come to participate in the two-day maiden T-20
tournament in Jalandhar were standing in scorching heat for over two
hours at the Punjab Armed Police Cricket Ground, waiting for a local
politician to come and give away prizes to them.
The players, already exhausted after playing two matches in warm
weather, were repeatedly wiping their faces to prevent sweat from
running into their eyes. Suddenly, the organiser got a call that the
‘politician’ will not be able to make it to their investiture ceremony
due to his busy schedule.
A sense of gloom filled with dejection ran on cricketers’ faces. It
was not the first time that a politician and over a dozen celebrities
in the city refused to come as a chief guest to their tournament. Last
year also, a local MLA didn’t turn up after promising them to attend
their closing ceremony.
“Look at the irony of our lives. While the whole nation is applauding
and celebrating the win of two of our players at the Rio Paralympics,
not even a single spectator turned up to watch our tournament. For us,
we are the players, host and even spectators. Though we cannot see
each other clearly, we appreciate each other by words and through loud
applause,” said Tejinder, an international blind cricketer and the
sole organiser of the tournament. He later went to the J team and
urged them to pick their trophies and certificates from the dais as no
one will turn up to give away the prizes.
It was only then The Tribune team present at the venue intervened and
urged the players to wait for some more time. The Tribune team
hurriedly called Deputy Commissioner KK Yadav to preside over the
ceremony but he claimed helplessness to attend the event due to his
busy schedule with Election Commissioner AK Joti.
However, a second call made to community police officer Deepika Singh
was attended by the distinguished officer, known for her dedication
and community welfare schemes in the city. Though the young officer
was at a coffee shop with her friends on Sunday, she reached the venue
in a few minutes.
“A cup of coffee and a bunch of friends can wait but we should not let
our special players wait for even a single minute. Please wait and I
will be there in the next five minutes,” said the officer on the
phone.
The dashing officer not only played with the blind cricketers on the
sunny afternoon, she even applauded them for their grit, determination
and also for their passion for the game. Later, while giving away the
prizes, she even assured them all necessary help by her department.
Monty Sehgal, president of the Cricket Association for Blind, Punjab,
said the smiles seen on the players’ faces were priceless
