Re: [AI] Skype for business

2017-06-07 Thread Swati Sinha
Hello,
Yes, Skype for business is pretty accessible with both JAWS and NVDA.
But at times, , while joining in a meeting through skype for business
is bit tricky as the "join online button" does not get activated with
an enter key. (Remember this happens rare and not always).

Re: [AI] as bajaj fincer rejected my consumer loan

2017-06-07 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
If they have an official policy of not giving loan to physically
disabled, why they can't share it in public domain? Basically they
don't have any such policy in their rule book. They don't have the
courage to do so. Its their non official policy of relegating the
physically disabled to third class citizens.
Its high time that we should collectively hit at their backbone and
change the things forever.
My suggestion is that we all physically disabled, whoever is in need
of any finance, should approach Bajaj Finserve for the same. Myself is
thinking of purchasing a laptop. Am definitely going to find out their
operation in my city.
One can easily break a stick. But when many sticks are bind together
instead of the sticks being broken the one who tries to break will be
broken.

 Dear all
 Greetings!
 My experience with Bajaj:
They denied financing me the washing machine and refrigerator. They
told me that they cannot finance disable person. Same thing I did, I
asked written policy from the person. He told me that he can’t give me
the same as it was not available with him at the moment. I requested
him to get in email from his head office and show me the policy. He
told me that he will not finance me.
I called 100 numbers after some time police came in the shop. I
explained everything to the police. The police was convince with my
arguments and told him to finance me.
I think this is not a local issue. Something must be done to teach the
 lesson to this company

Well, CCPD never receives any mails!!

Police won't help either.
Banking ombudsman is for banks.
You may file a complaint with their head office, and if they do not remedy the
issue, then approach
Department of non-banking regulation
RBI
At cgmdnb...@rbi.org.in
Or customer service department
At
khanolkars @rbi.org.in

Shall I file a complaint against them in police? I had sent a mail to

Shall I file a complaint against them in police? I had sent a mail to

Can anyone take this issue and knock in the court of law?

There is nothing called logical end. First I doubt if Bajaj Finserv
 really
has such policy. If so, it could have been applied everywhere

So our first approach has to be compile a few such cases where
 application
was rejected only due to disability, and share that with management of
 the

2017-06-07 Thread sazid shaik
Dear friends, rejecting loan for disabled is not local concern it is a
policy of this company.

Just now also I got a call from bajaj head office, they told me that
on the grounds of my disability they are rejecting my loan. They gave
a suggestion that I can avail loan on my family members. I asked them
to share their policy for not issuing loan for disabled. they told
they won't share.

Thanks and regards,
sazid.

*Issue 39: September 2017: **Narrating Care: Disability and Interdependence
in the Indian Context [Last date for submission: 20 July, 2017; Date of
publication: 15 September, 2017]*

*Guest-Editors:* Dr. Nandini Ghosh, IDSK & Dr. Shilpaa Anand, MANUU

*Concept Note: *Care-giving and care-receiving are complex experiences that
are only beginning to draw the attention of scholars and researchers
working in the fields of social medicine, disability studies and medical
anthropology. Care-giving, however, has appropriately been recognized as an
important theme of research by the women’s studies discourse, focusing
primarily on women as care-givers in contexts where care-giving becomes
invisible or is considered part of traditional gendered roles. What has
remained relatively unfamiliar, so also unknown, is the epistemic
perspective of recipients of care. The concept of care has, in the last few
decades, been problematized as ‘taking responsibility for’ people, who are
assumed to need caring as they are unable to exert choice and/or control.
Scholars have questioned the emphasis on independence and choice, for many
persons with disabilities for whom both cognitive function as well as
physical abilities may be highly circumscribed. While care highlights the
concept of dependency, it also points to power dynamics within the
carer-cared relationship. Care recipients are assumed to be subordinate to
the caregiver, as s/he cannot perform daily activities for her/himself and
that, as a result, makes the person become dependent on the caregiver. The
risk of losing one’s human (and civil) rights has remained higher for those
requiring greater levels of care, given that economic security, safety and
dignity are threatened when individuals find themselves increasingly
dependent on others (as many people with disabilities do) for personal care
and formal as well as informal decision-making.

‘Interdependence’, consequently, has emerged as a key concept. It has
become significant to recognize that, for disabled people independence is
not so much about self-sufficiency as it is about equity, empowerment,
choice, and control over their own lives. Defining care as an
interdependent relationship also enables us to consider the vulnerabilities
of the care-giver whose role may be devalued or dominated in certain
contexts. Focusing on interdependence additionally animates reflections on
mutually affective bonds that connect, knot, fasten, embrace, or fetter two
people simultaneously.

Given that, in the Indian context, notions of care are subsumed within
familial and communitarian ethics rather than in institutionalized
settings, questions of care-giving and receiving require greater and closer
examination. The paradoxes of such relationships become more complicated
when we consider the intersection of multiple identities. Shared as well as
normative understandings of caste rules, religious and cultural practices
shape and govern the everydayness of care practices. In India, the family
emerges as the primary site for not only care but also management of
impairment. In such a context, caring and receiving care become conflicting
experiences located at the cusps of in enabling/constraining relationships,
often crafted by, love/duty curiously unaware of agency/dependence.

The proposed issue of *Café Dissensus* invites narratives of care from
receivers and givers in the form of written and graphic texts, photo essays
as well as video and audio entries. We are interested in descriptions that
give primacy to receivers of care while also not making invisible
experiences of care givers. Your entries may be of 1500 words in length (in
case of written entries) and emailed to Nandini Ghosh (*nandinigh...@gmail.com
*) or Shilpaa Anand
(*shilpaa.an...@gmail.com

2017. Submission of entries must include a brief bio-note of the
author/artist in about 150 words.

Unless we raise our issues or report such things, no one would address. There
is nothing called logical end. First I doubt if Bajaj Finserv really has such
policy. If so, it could have been applied everywhere

So our first approach has to be compile a few such cases where application was
rejected only due to disability, and share that with management of the company.

Have got things financed from Bajaj and since have been receiving their pesky
automated calls for loans daily.
But no mention of disability.

Way back in 2004, they had rejected my application for financing the PC, maybe
got the wiff of my disability.

I have been using bajaj finance card for purchasing laptop, mobile

Perhaps they didn’t know about my disability while issuing card.
But last year I got call from bajaj for personal loan and at that time
I wanted it so I applied but they denied after doing all the formality
on the ground of disability.
Was busy so didn’t do anything at that time.

Dear all
Of course this issue could be a local one. But I'm sure, there are
countless such unreported local ones faced by our blind and visually
impaired fellow friends. Everyone doesn't have the patience or
attitude to raise this issues.
Its time to do something to take these issues to a logical end.

Blindness: Is Literature Against Us?
An Address Delivered by Kenneth Jernigan
President, National Federation of the Blind
At the Banquet of the Annual Convention
   Chicago, July 3, 1974
History, we are told, is the record of what human beings have done;
literature, the record of what they have thought. Last year I examined
with you the place of the blind in history—not just what we have
done but what the historians have remembered and said we have done.
The two, as we found, are vastly different.
This year I would like to talk with you about the place of the blind
in literature. How have we been perceived? What has been our role?
How have the poets and novelists, the essayists and dramatists seen
us? Have they "told it like it is," or merely liked it as they've
told it?
With history there is at least a supposed foundation of fact. Whatever
the twisting or omission or misinterpretation or downright
falsehood, that foundation presumably remains—a tether and a
touchstone, always subject to reexamination and new proof. Not so
with literature. The author is free to cut through facts to the
essence, to dream and soar and surmise. Going deeper than history,
the myths and feelings of a people are enshrined in its literature.
Literary culture in all its forms constitutes possibly the main
transmission belt of our society's beliefs and values—more important
even than the schools, the churches, the news media, or the family.
How, then, have we fared in literature?
The literary record reveals no single theme or unitary view of the
life of the blind. Instead, it displays a bewildering variety of
images—often conflicting and contradictory, not only as between
different ages or cultures, or among the works of various writers,
but even within the pages of a single book.
Yet, upon closer examination the principal themes and motifs of
literature and popular culture are nine in number and may be
summarized as follows: blindness as compensatory or miraculous power,
blindness as total tragedy; blindness as foolishness and
helplessness; blindness as unrelieved wickedness and evil; blindness
as perfect virtue; blindness as punishment for sin; blindness as
abnormality or dehumanization; blindness as purification; and
blindness as symbol or parable.
Let us begin with blindness and compensatory powers. Suppose one of
you should ask me whether I think there is any advantage in being
blind; and suppose I should answer like this: "Not an advantage
perhaps: still it has compensations that one might not think of. A
new world to explore, new experiences, new powers awakening; strange
new perceptions; life in the fourth dimension."l How would you react
to that? You would, I suspect, laugh me out of the room. I doubt that
a single person here would buy such stereotyped stupidity. You and I
know from firsthand experience that there is no "fourth dimension"
to blindness—no miraculous new powers awakening, no strange new
perceptions, no brave new worlds to explore. Yet, the words I have
quoted are those of a blind character in a popular novel of some
time back. (I don't know whether the term has significance, but a
blind "private eye," no less.)
The association of blindness with compensatory powers, illustrated by
the blind detective I have just mentioned, represents a venerable
tradition, reaching back to classical mythology. A favorite method
of punishment among the gods of ancient Greece was blinding—regarded
apparently as a fate worse than death—following which, more often
than not, the gods so pitied the blinded victim that they relented
and conferred upon him extraordinary gifts, usually the power of
prophecy or some other exceptional skill. Thus, Homer was widely
regarded as having been compensated by the gift of poetry. In the same
way Tiresias, who wandered through the plays of Sophocles, received
for his blindness the gift of prophecy.
The theme of divine compensation following divine retribution survived
the passage of the ages and the decline of the pagan religions. Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle (one of the most
