[AI] First PM Modi, now Mamata Banerjee shocks & offends with comments about mental disability

First PM Modi, now Mamata Banerjee shocks
& offends with comments about mental
disability

Her anger towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)for asking the Election
Commission of India (ECI) to declare West Bengal a "super sensitive state"
may be justified but Mamata Banerjee's choice of words to articulate that is
totally out of line.

This week, the West Bengal Chief Minister joined the laundry list of
national leaders who are in the dock for referring to disability in negative
terms. Addressing party workers she described the BJP leadership's behaviour
as akin to " a psychiatric patient".

Subject: [AI] Deciding between Android and IOS phones.

Hello People. My IPhone is on its last legs and I might have to purchase a
new phone very soon. I am not sure whether to continue with Apple or to
shift to Android. I am not at all familiar with Android phones, but have
generally found them to be much slower with Talkback than is the case with
Voiceover on Apple devices. But IPhones as you know are much more expensive.
Apart from calls and messages, I use my phone to read content on Kindle.
Would it be a good idea to shift from IOS to Android? If yes, which models
should I consider? My budget is approximately 15000 Indian Rupees.
Thanks,
Alefiya.

Re: [AI] Problemin Excel with Jaws

2019-03-14 Thread Sameer

Manoj,

The following article might solve your problem in Excel.

JAWS & Excel - solution for reading cell contents with F2:

Problem - When editing cells in Excel, JAWS will not read the cell contents.
JAWS will either stay silent or say “blank”.

Solution - This problem can be solved by unchecking the “Edit directly in
cells” option in Excel options. The procedure to do this is given below.

1. In Excel, press Alt+F to go to the File menu.
2. Move with the arrow keys to Options or press the T key to move directly
to Options. Press enter to open the Options dialog box.
3. Your focus will be placed in the listbox containing the various
categories of options available under Excel. Use the down arrow key to move
to the “Advanced” category.
4. Press tab to move through the various Excel options available under the
Advanced category. When you land on the “Edit directly in cells” checkbox,
confirm that the checkbox is unchecked. If it is checked, press spacebar to
uncheck it.
5. Use tab or shift+tab to move to the OK button & press enter. Note that
the Advanced category contains several options & you will have to press tab
several times to reach the OK button.

NOTE - Turning the “Edit directly in cells” setting off does change things
slightly for sighted users. When editing directly in cells is enabled, when
F2 is pressed, the cursor appears in the cell itself. Text which would flow
out of the cell flows to the right & then to the lines below. The cells
covered by the overflowing text are hidden & the text in the cell is
coloured to highlight cell references & brackets.
When editing directly in cells is disabled, when F2 is pressed, the cursor
appears in the formula bar above the worksheet. Colouring of formula
elements like cell references is also done in the formula bar instead of in
the cell itself. Only the text which fits in the cell is visible while the
cell contents are being edited.

Re: [AI] Deciding between Android and IOS phones.

2019-03-14 Thread Ajay Minocha
Hello Alefiya,

Android is perfectly accessible, Some of the models you can consider
are : Samsung M30, Moto G6, MI A2 or even MI RedMi Note6 / 7. Do write
off-list if you need any further help.

I have tried IPhones but haven't ever bought one for myself as I find
android to be more flexible as compared to IOS.

Cheers,
Ajay

On this subject what I think is that I will never spend three times or
sometimes even 4 times money extra as compared to Android phone for
purchasing Apple iPhone. You can purchase far more better Android phone on
the same money that you can spend for purchasing iPhone. You can purchase
any Android one phone since these are totally accessible. I have used Apple

Android phone.

Yes, if you have been using I-Phone and looking to enter in android world,
you will experience a little difficulty in terms of what you've said,
however, you would enjoy android mobile phone gradually once you are well

It seems difficult to leave apple and use android after experiencing a

If you are looking forward to buy a new android mobile device, you may look

hi. even I have been facing the same problem while sending
audiobooks through post. we were not getting any proper response from
them for not accepting the books.finally I personally visited the
post-office and found that system is not accepting the clause which
says free literature for blind.

On 3/11/19, Amiyo Biswas wrote:

Hello,

During last two or three days, post offices are not accepting Braille
books

under Blind Literature category. According to the officer in charge, the
minimum and maximum weight is showing as zero (0). As a result, they
cannot

accept any parcel of Braille books in Kolkata or nearby.

We are further told by our nearest post office and Kolkata GPO that they
cannot solve this problem at local level and we must request Director
General of Post to address the issue.

I wish, the facility of free postage for Braille books is not disturbed.
What I note from a post office person is that the software package has
been

updated by TCS and the fault is theirs.

Anyway, if you face this problem don't delay in complaining.

Subject: [AI] Deciding between Android and IOS phones.

Hello People. My IPhone is on its last legs and I might have to
purchase a new phone very soon. I am not sure whether to continue with
Apple or to shift to Android. I am not at all familiar with Android
phones, but have generally found them to be much slower with Talkback
than is the case with Voiceover on Apple devices. But IPhones as you
know are much more expensive.
Apart from calls and messages, I use my phone to read content on Kindle.
Would it be a good idea to shift from IOS to Android? If yes, which
models should I consider? My budget is approximately 15000 Indian
Rupees.
Thanks,
Alefiya.

[AI] Learn valuable self-defense techniques at this session for disabled women in Mumbai

2019-03-14 Thread Ramya Venkitesh
Learn valuable self-defense techniques at this session for disabled women in
Mumbai

Safety of women in Mumbai is a burning topic given the significant rise in
the number of crimes against women. Women and girls with disabilities are
especially vulnerable.

It is therefore important that they learn how to defend themselves, which is
the thought behind Young Voices. This is an initiative of Cheshire Homes
India, where women with disabilities will be given a free self-defense
session this weekend in Mumbai.

The workshop is titled Self Defence for Safety of Women with Disabilities
and aims to empower women by teaching them techniques to protect themselves.

Sushmitha Bubna, founder of non-profit Voice Vision will facilitate the
workshop. Here are the details: https://newzhook.com/story/21653

Regards,

Ramya

Re: [AI] Problem in Posting Braille Books under Blind Literature Category vide Rule 136_

2019-03-14 Thread Amiyo Biswas
First, make sure that is is either braille or audio. Print lables or
instructions for using the literature are allowed in the pack.

Second, pack them in such a way that it can be checked at any time by the
post office people.\

Ask the post office to register it under Blind Literature category. You will
receive a receipt with tracking id.

hi. even I have been facing the same problem while sending
audiobooks through post. we were not getting any proper response from
them for not accepting the books.finally I personally visited the
post-office and found that system is not accepting the clause which
says free literature for blind.

On 3/11/19, Amiyo Biswas wrote:

Hello,

During last two or three days, post offices are not accepting Braille
books
under Blind Literature category. According to the officer in charge,
the
minimum and maximum weight is showing as zero (0). As a result, they
cannot
accept any parcel of Braille books in Kolkata or nearby.

We are further told by our nearest post office and Kolkata GPO that
they
cannot solve this problem at local level and we must request Director
General of Post to address the issue.

I wish, the facility of free postage for Braille books is not
disturbed.
What I note from a post office person is that the software package has
been
updated by TCS and the fault is theirs.

Anyway, if you face this problem don't delay in complaining.
