Dear friends,

VIBEWA has been writing to all the authorities concerned to ensure
visually impaired stay safe at home during the present condition. In
the past week, we had written to Department of Financial services,
IBA and the CMDs of all the public sector bank impressing upon them
the need for visually challenged to remain at home.

The relevant guidelines OM issued by DOPT to DFS can be found at
https://dopt.gov.in/whats-new

While some banks have issued internal circulars to this effect, some
are yet to pass any internal orders, and the implementation has been
partial in some banks depending on the regions. However, VIBEWA
strives for a uniform policy across the banks and all the states.

We request members who need our intervention to write to us so that we
can do everything we can do. VIBEWA shall write/talk to the bank
managements at an organisational level without referring to any
individual as it appears to be the concern for some of the employees.

Please drop a mail at
contactvib...@gmail.com

with the name of the bank and, if possible, the relevant Email ID to
whom we should write to.

[AI] denial of health insurance by star health and HDFC ERGO on the grounds of vision impairment.

2020-04-03 Thread Dinesh thole
Hi All,

Hope you all are doing good.

Insurance companies are still discriminating for providing health insurance
to visually challenged.

Recently I approached star health and HDFC ergo for buying online health
family health insurance for me and my wife(Both 100% visually challenged) .

I clearly told both the companies regarding our vision impairment in a
transparent manner.

HDFC ergo team refused to provide on the grounds of disability.

They said over phone that medical underwriting team has refused the same.

On the other hand, star health is willing to provide cover only maximum upto
5 lacs where as I had requested for 10 lacs, again as per their medical
underwriting team.

However, all this conversation is over phone, and as usual, both the
companies have not given anything in writing even after my request.

I also gave them reference of the recent circular on Guidelines on
standardization of exclusions in HI Contracts given by IRDA, but no luck.

Both the companies policy terms are not having any such clauses in the
exclusions list for refusing insurance for visually challenged.

Please advise as to whom should I approach?

Please share your advise for purchase of health insurance.

Thanks and Regards.

Dinesh Thole

[AI] Corona period: Visually impaired still attending bank?

2020-04-03 Thread Vamshi. G

[AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2020-04-03 Thread Ritu Jain
Dear All,

Greetings from The National Eyeway Helpdesk.
Please, find the below Daily Eyeway Alerts:
News-
Absence of caregivers troubles divyangs.
Persons with disabilities (PwDs) across the States are having tough
times in managing day-to-day affairs in the absence of caregivers as
well as essential supplies and medical aid because of the lockdown
imposed to curb spread of the coronavirus.
This, despite clear guidelines from the Centre to the States issued
late last month that they should ensure that the sector has smooth
access to essential support services, including caregiver support,
supplies and medical aid at their doorstep, pointed out Arman Ali,
Executive Director, National Centre for Promotion of Employment for
Disabled People (NCPEDP).
He said, “Our helpline 73039 44839 set up to provide guidance to the
PwDs has been keep on buzzing with requests and complaints since its
launch on March 29.”
For instance, many people with Thalassemia have complained of facing
difficulty in blood transfusion as limited blood is available in
hospitals. Many private hospitals have ceased to deliver their
services. For persons who do not have private transportation,
arranging transportation for basic health services is a major task.
“We got a call from a PwD from Nagpur in Maharashtra, that he has not
been able to take his pregnant wife to the hospital as there is no
transportation available due to the lockdown, while, the State
Government is yet to ensure ration for PwDs on urgent basis.”Source:

2020-04-03 Thread PRAMIT BHARGAVA
Hi Sindhu,

Thanks for your interest! My experience during the Start-Up such as this
suggests that a position like this (User Experience Executive) doesn't
require a professional degree.
Also, it doesn't require knowledge of accessibility at all.
What is however needed is creativity & a burning desire to contribute to
this cause for the general good of the VI community at large.

BTW, the location certainly needs to be Gurgaon.

Regards,
Pramit

Re: [AI] PIB Fact Check provides description of images posted by it for persons with visual disabilities

2020-04-03 Thread Amar Jain
Hi Pragya and everyone,

This is an incorrect information as PIB is not doing any effort from their
end to generate accessible image description. These descriptions are
automatically generated by the AI deployed by the social media companies /
OS level AI.

This post is a classic example of highly inaccurate and misleading
information about accessibility which is unfortunately coming from PIB. We
must be careful to bring the correct understanding out. On my part, I have
already commented on their Facebook post about the inaccurate information.

Trust everyone is on the same page.

Hello everyone!

PIB Fact Check is providing descriptions of images on its tweets, and posts
on Facebook and Instagram. As a result of this, persons with visual
disabilities who use screen readers would get a description of the picture
so posted.

Following are the links to its tweet, Facebook and Instagram post, where you
can get more information about this.
