[AI] Research Project: COVID 19, work from home , and how it will impact workplace for visually impaired employees

2020-04-13 Thread Amit Jain
Dear All,

My name is Amit Jain and I am currently doing my postdoctoral (post PhD)
research fellowship at The University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. As I am
also working from home due to COVID 19 pandemic and being visually impaired
myself , I thought to do a small research study looking at impact of COVID
19 on visually impaired employees working from home.

A lot of research and policy work is going on the effect of this sudden
change on the work style for all including persons with disabilities. Some
steps are also being taken by Govt. and organizations in making the things
better.

But my belief is that these changes will have a lasting impact on how lives
of visually impaired will be at workplace post pandemic. this can be
positive as well as negative, depending on organization, industry , the
role of the individual or many other factors.

Thus one of my friend, Prof. Sudhanshu Shekhar (faculty at IIM Ranchi) and
I are working on this small research project and need participation of
people who are working from home. We want to have your views (through a
telephonic interview) on how you see your work and workplace getting
changed n*ow and in the future *(post pandemic). In case you are
comfortable in having such a an interview, please let us know though a mail
at amit.j...@student.unisg.ch and I will get in touch with you about date
and time convenient to you. (Thanks in advance)

In case you are not willing to give interview but still want to share some
thoughts (based on your own experience), you may also just share your views
through message (email) either with me or Sudhanshu (copied on mail).

Needless to say, the data will remain confidential and anonymous unless you
are fine with disclosure of your name

Amit Jain

Re: [AI] meetings issues pertaining to zoom software

2020-04-13 Thread BharatVaya
You are supposed to share your screen. While sharing the screen also share
computer audio. To do this
1. tab to the share screen and press space space bar.
2. press shift + 2 or 3 times your rich computer audio check it by space
bar.
3. once again tab to the share and activate by space bar. That's it.

Subject: [AI] meetings issues pertaining to zoom software

hello,
i am using laptop with ms window 8 operating system. i have recently
installed zoom on my machine. i have scheduled the meeting through zoom and
added one participant in the meeting. i would like to demonstrate the use of
jaws screen reading software to the participant. hence, the voice of my
screen reader need to be audible to the participant. after starting the
meeting, i have been told by the participant that my screen reader voice is
not audible to him while my voice was only audible. also he was continuously
receiving the alerts on his zoom window that audio disconnected. so i have
asked him to make me hear the voice of the jaws installed on his computer
which i could hear it very clearly. so would could be the reason if this
problem and how to resolve this problem?

i have checked at my end that my microphones are unmuted.

kindly guide on this issue.

[AI] Daily Eyeway Alerts

2020-04-13 Thread Ritu Jain
Dear All,

Greetings from the National Eyeway Helpdesk.
Please, find the below Daily Eyeway Alerts:
1. News, COVID-19: Visually-impaired persons face difficulties in
maintaining social distancing.
Visually-impaired persons are facing difficulties in maintaining
social distancing norms in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Students of a premier Kolkata school for visually- impaired persons,
who are presently at home due to the lockdown, are worried over ways
to maintain social distancing once the institute reopens in June. "A
visually-impaired person often touches an object or holds the arm of a
person to navigate his or her way. However, with social distancing
norms in place, this has become a problem for them," a teacher of the
Calcutta Blind School said. As the students are presently at home,
they are somehow managing but when the lockdown is lifted, they may
face difficulties in maintaining social distancing norms, which are
expected to remain in force for some time, he said.
Subir Das, a class 11 student of the institute said, "At home, I think
it is still safe to navigate our way by touching doorknobs or
switchboards. But, I have to learn to move around without touching
anything once I go out after the lockdown is lifted." Source:

Moving Out, the co-operative couch carrying game from Team17, is
expected to arrive at the end of the month on a variety of consoles.
Before the April
28 release date, though, a new trailer has been dropped that shows off
a variety of incredibly thoughtful accessibility options included in
the game, alongside a helpful and easy to grasp Assist Mode. Check it
out below. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-pYdpQSasQvmocEDWZUotQ.
Accessibility options in video games are important, and Moving Out has
incorporated them. Players can use the Scalable UI to adjust the size
and positioning
of HUD elements dynamically, and a Dyslexic Friendly Text mode swaps
the default font of the game with a clearer and less stylized set of
fonts. There are also full subtitle options for all in-game speech.
Keyboard controls can be fully remapped as you see fit, and there are
a variety of preset controller profiles available including
left-handed and right-handed only configurations. If you want more
gameplay-related assist features in Moving Out, you’ll want to use the
Assist Mode. Toggling this adds a bevy of helpful gameplay adjustments
that can make the experience much smoother, from increased time limits
and lighter items to less difficult level layouts and level-skip
features. Moving Out is set to launch on April 28 for PlayStation 4,
Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Link Source:

Blackboard Launches Free Accessibility Tool that Converts Digital
Course Content Into Accessible Formats.
Blackboard Inc. announced the launch of the File Transformer,
Powered by Blackboard Ally — a free resource enabling students to
convert their digital course content into a range of alternative
formats to meet their unique learning needs and preferences as they
adjust to digital
teaching and learning modalities.
The new resource allows students to personalize their learning
experience and choose from several different format types designed to
work better with mobile devices, assistive technologies, and study
tools. The temporary, free resource is designed to ease students’
transition to digital learning as K12 school districts and higher
education institutions continue moving to fully remote learning
environments over the next several weeks as a result of COVID-19
contingency planning. Source:
