While taking any mobile, it is necessary that you have kept your budget
ready, if I take a look at your email, then it seems that your experience
has been with OnePlus, I will give you the first thing that you should
leave the Android platform and iPhone If you do not want to get an iPhone
for some reason, then you can have some phones available from stock
Android, you can see the next mobile phones of Google company, in which
stock Android is available, besides Moto you also have stock Android
available in some handsets. Apart from this, if I talk about the mobile
phones of Samsung Oppo Vivo companies, Real Mi Redmi will not be able to
see stock Android in any of these. If I talk about Real Mi mobile phones,
then there is some problem in accessibility right now. I will tell you
that you should take a drain in Real and go towards Redmi. Even if you take
Real M's mobile then there will not be much accessibility problem, just
some things you have to take alternative routes or some things may have to
be compromised. You this segment If you can get a very good mobile phone
from there, you can also move towards Samsung's premium phone, as far as
you have talked about Samsung's M series smartphone, then it can be
available for very little rupees if you have accessibility. If you have
any other questions related to this, then you can ask thank you.

Re: [AI] Accessibility of payments app

2020-07-29 Thread faiyaz attar
Hi,

I will not comment about PayTM as it is not that much Accessible at
all with compare to the other Apps.
My first recommendation is Google Pay then Phone Pay.
and yes, as Vaibhav said, when we use backspace key with phone Pay, it
shows unlabeled button.
Same Problem with send button too.

2020-07-29 Thread gufran ahmed
Nokia is not reliable for those who often buy their handsets for 2-3 years.
As nokia often play around with their sound system.
I bought nokia 6 for rs. 15000/-. But I have to invest in Samsung galaxy m30.
As the volume of nokia became too low after receiving android pai update. I
theirfore not suggest to buy nokia if you want to buy new handset for 2-3 years.

[AI] 2 Hellen Keller inst kids pass with flying colours

2020-07-29 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
2 Hellen Keller inst kids pass with flying colours
Times of India 30-07-2020

—B B Nayak

Two students of Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and Deafblind have scored
impressive marks in SSC exams, despite difficulties. Prince Yadav, who is
completely blind and uses audio books for studying, has scored 76%, and
Atharv Thakur, who has low vision and hearing impairment, secured 83%.

“The indomitable spirit of the students and their teachers have made this
possible. Their parents have also given unstinting support,” said Anuradha
Bagchi, director (education) of the institute. Both Atharv and Prince want
to pursue arts. Atharv has also won laurels in sculpture.

Re: [AI] Accessibility of payments app

2020-07-29 Thread Vaibhav Saraf
Hi,

I have used Google Pay and Phonepe. Google Pay is accessible but most of
the buttons on Phonepe specially the 'Send' button is unlabelled making it
a bad experience.

There is one peculiar thing i have noticed with the UPI interface on the
screen where we need to enter the UPI PIN, irrespective of the payment app,
the 'Backspace' button and 'OK' button are announced as unlabelled. Has
anyone else also experienced the same or is this an issue on phone level?

[AI] Issues using Outlook with NVDA

2020-07-29 Thread Harish

Hi

Espeak is a TTS. Earlier it used to be the default TTS. Now they use
Windows Core TTS. You can check in the list of TTS by pressing
Alt+ctrl+NVDa Key+S

It used to be the first item.

Your laptop configuration is good and you should not experience any lag
really.

Hi,

The RAM is already 16 GB on the machine. I guess the processor is AMD, I am
not able to check though. The System Info page is not speaking anything
useful.

There are no add-ons on NVDA. Espeak is another screen reader or is it an
add-on tts for nvda??

Thanks,
Vaibhav

Hi

Yes, Outlook and Office applications are resource hungry. You can close
NVDA and restart after the Office application is open. You can also
consider usinglight TTS like Espeak.

You can use NVDA  with minimal addons.

Usually Laptops and Desktops have vacant RAM slots, you can increase
RAM. Anything above 8GB should improve performance significantly.

I recently increased my laptop Builtin ram from 4 GB by adding another
8GB. I am observing significant improvement in performance. It cost me
about 4K for it.

Hi Mates,,

I am using MS Outlook 2016 application with NVDA 2020.1.

While I am on a message and the SR is reading out the sender, subject,
time
and other details, many a times even after pressing Ctrl the speech won't
stop and it will give an experience that I am stuck.

Also sometimes speech will go out like I have switched off the SR and
will
return back after 30-60 seconds.

I am guessing this is all because of the heavy size and requirements of
Outlook application.

Have anyone faced or is facing a similar issue? Any idea how this can be
fine tuned?

Thanks,
Vaibhav

2020-07-29 Thread Shadab Husain
Last July some work took me to Guwahati. I was searching for good
hotels on Google Maps in Dispur area, but the moment the hotel staff
heard that I’m blind and alone, they disconnected the phone.

I had never been to the North East before and these refusals started
to give me a view that this was how the visually impaired were treated
there.

I didn’t know the language and even the culture was foreign to me.
Then someone told me that Pincha sir hails from Guwahati and I must
contact him.

I told Pincha sir who those days was in Delhi that the moment the
hotel staff are learning that I’m visually impaired, they’re refusing
me…is this the common practice of Guwahati?

He dispelled my fear which was formed due to those accidental refusals
and assured me that I’ll get a good place to stay. His assurance that
the visually impaired are treated as they’re treated in other cities
comforted my heart. He asked me to try a few more hotels and if now
they refuse me – I must take him on call and he’ll have the matter
settled.

I probably called him twice that single day, and he was very polite.
His voice had a kind smile. He didn’t get irritated and talked with me
as a family elder.

As suggested, I searched for a few more hotels and soon I got a good
place to live in the same area. I thanked him in my heart but didn’t
call him back to express my thankfulness fearing that it might be a
distraction for him.

May my gratitude now reach him for helping me that hot day.

Rest in peace, sir.

Love, Shadab
