Re: [AI] visit CHANGWA

2014-03-26 Thread Annavaram Neredimalli
The First time I was ever pleasantly surprised to have in my hand a flight
safety manual in Braille was some two years ago on my journey by JetConnect.
The Indigo seems to have taken this step very recently, but the
Air-hostesses on Indigo are quite often happy, perhaps excited, to hand over
the safety manual whenever there's a visually-challenged traveler. Let's
hope this would inspire other Airways too.

Hello,
Recently I happened to travel by Indigo from Indore to Delhi.
I felt very glad to see the menu card of the flight printed in braille.
Though I can't read it, yet it is a very good initiative.

[AI] Open Invitation to Dr. Michele Friedner's Talk at the Department of sociology, University of Hyderabad

2014-03-04 Thread Annavaram Neredimalli
It gives me an immense pleasure in letting you know that The

Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad, will be hosting a

special talk entitled: 'New disability mobilities and accessibilities

in urban India', to be delivered by Michele Friedner of the

Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Anthropology program, USA.

Venue: SAP room of the Department of sociology, 6th-March-2014,

Thursday, at 2:30 PM.

Abstract

This talk ethnographically analyzes the emergence of new disability

mobilities and accessibilities in urban India and asks who benefits

from them. The category of disability has become a privileged site for

the state and NGOs to situate development interventions and for

corporations to engage in corporate social responsibility initiatives.

These state, NGO, and corporate efforts are directed at a specific

kind of disabled individual and are heavily based upon market logics.

Utilizing data from an international transportation and tourism

accessibility conference held in New Delhi, a technology and

disability conference held in Bangalore, and a new accessible taxi

service that recently started in Bangalore, this talk critically

examines these new mobilities and accessibilities and argues that we

are witnessing a new assemblage of state, NGO, and corporation around

disability. This talk also pushes analysts and activists working in

the arena of disability to be more specific in their treatment of the

concepts of mobility and accessibility.

Medical anthropologist by training, Michele Friedner is interested

broadly in the areas of health and bodies, neo-liberalism and new

structures of opportunity, social movements, etc. Friedner is

currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Massachusetts Institute of

Technology's Anthropology program, and will be joining the faculty of

the State University of New York at Stony Brook as an Assistant

Professor in the School of Health Technology and Management.

Looking forward to meeting you!

For any clarification, feel free to contact me on my mobile: 8374701417.

Annavaram N., Assistant Professor, Department of English, University of
Hyderabad.

Re: [AI] query: provision of having separate evaluation system/examiner for student with VI

2013-05-29 Thread Annavaram Neredimalli
If my memory serves me right, UGC has, perhaps, been boasting of following
such a preferential model. The problem is that Rules of this kind are never
publicly pronounced, for they are meant only for internal circulation to the
evaluators concerned. Some years ago, the UGC Chairman has revealed in a
conference during a question-answer session that UGC indeed ensures that the
scripts of the visually-challenged candidates are evaluated without paying
too much attention to minor spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. Now
that UGC has given up the descriptive questions, I am not sure if UGC even
remembers it!
Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary school Certificate has a peculiar system
of giving 10 grace marks in each subject, and 15 in the case of Maths, at
the time of 10th standard public examination. But this can be a
post-evaluation effect as well.

So far as my wisdom bethinks, there is no such rule/guideline of any
university/UGC which provides any kind of relaxation or special treatment in
respect of visually challanged candidates while evaluating their answer
sheets. I have never came across of such mandate upon the evaluator or the
university officials, even they don't indicate that this answerbook belongs
to a visually challanged candidate! Perhaps they don't do so because making
any sign or representation which could help in identifying you amongst
others students is not permitted. However at school level or in internal
examinations if the teacher knows you personally, he can make such
relaxations on the basis of equity.

an amanuenses/scribe who can possibly do spelling mistakes and can
 also make other errors.

Please let me know if you have knowledge to share regarding this

Re: [AI] Query in using Pay TM for mobile recharge

2013-04-11 Thread Annavaram Neredimalli
Dear Vamshhi,

Unfortunately, no to both of your questions. Not only paytm, even other
services like easymobilerecharge.com don't have such an option at the
moment. Ideally, it is good not to look for too much of automation in online
services like these.
Best!

Subject: [AI] Query in using Pay TM for mobile recharge

Dear friends,

I'm using Pay TM along with SBI INB for mobile recharge. I have the
following queries. I wrote to the mail ID of the company but haven't got
any reply.

1. Is there a way we can save our mobile number so that we need not type
the same every time we recharge the phone? I couldn't find this option in
my accounts or settings.

2. Is there a way we can save the mode of payment e.g., SBI INB so that we
need not select the same every time we recharge?

Awaiting replies from users of the Pay TM service.
