Re: [AI] Employment situation for PWD in private sector?

2022-03-13 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello,

I fully agree with the views expressed by Bharat over here. My own
experiences of getting employed in private sector is not positive at
all. Big MNC Companies do declare themselves as equal opportunity
employers however they are not inclined in employing people with total
blindness even if you perform good in interview.

In my opinion, under the Rights of Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016
private employer only has a duty of drafting and notifying equal
opportunity policy, maintaining records of disabled employees and
providing built in and web accessibility. The limitation of the Act is
that employment of people with disabilities in private establishments
is not made mandatory .

Re: [AI] About Accessibility at workplace

2022-02-15 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello Kriya,

Congratulations for getting employed in Genpact india.
Now a days windows 10 has inbuilt narrator, screen reader with which
you can start off your initial job. However if your employer is
willing to provide JAWS then I suggest do take it as JAWS is the best
screen reader at least in my opinion.
In terms of accessibility I suggest that you put forth your needs in
a nice manner and try to convince your employer of having accessible
company app for employee and the difficulty you encounter on it not
being accessible.
It is good that people over there are willing to help you . Once you
start performing well in your organization automatically the approach
of everyone over there will certainly change however in the initial
days it will be a test of your patience as well.
I once again wish you good luck for your new endeavor.

[AI] Attempt of becoming self-employed

2022-02-08 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello All,
We all are aware that getting employed is really difficult for
visually challenged people like us and which has further increased
with the outbreak of Corona. On this background it came to my mind
that becoming self-employed is the need of the hour.
As a part of it I am planning of starting my own legal Consultancy
service wherein I propose to primarily provide legal opinion/ advice
based upon labour laws at a reasonable charge. If any group is
interested I also propose to conduct seminars/ webinar on topics
relating to labour laws.
In case any one is interested in availing my services feel free to
reach out to me at
sathe.naren...@gmail.com or call/ WhatsApp me at 9881735784.

[AI] Working towards increasing the powers of CCPD/ SCPD

2021-10-28 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello All,

The Rights of Persons With Disabilities RPWD Act, 2016 provides for
setting up of CCPD/ SCPD, a specialized forum for addressing our
grievances. However as per the Act these forums can only make
recommendations and they do not possess the powers of imposing penalty
or imprisonment in case of violation of the Act or in case there is
discrimination only on the basis of disability.
Therefore in my opinion we need to work on this aspect by making
representations to appropriate authorities
Once CCPD/ SCPD is equipped with giving punishments then only the
rights and interests of disabled in our country could be protected in
the true spirit.
I am ready to be apart of this drive and willing to contribute
whatever is possible in making CCPD/ SCPD the best forums for deciding
matters of disabled in our country.

Re: [AI] Seeking support for justice

2021-10-26 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello,

In my opinion this is a clear cut case of discrimination solely on the
basis of disability. It is also clear that the authorities at the exam
centre were not at all willing to allow Mr Gaurav. In such situation
grievance along with all details including the disability certificate
be filed through the online portal of CPGRAMSCentralized Public
Grievance Redress And Monitoring System. The link of the same is
provided over here for ready reference.

Re: [AI] are we not entitled for a credit card?

2021-06-15 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello All,

There are 2 important notifications which provide that blind people
are entitled to get credit cards.
1) RBI Notification 04.06.2008
2) PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES FOR BANKING FACILITIES TO VISUALLY IMPAIRED
PERSONS IBA circular dated 18.11.2008

My suggestion is that along with making an application to the office
of CCPD you could also give your complaint in writing to the branch
manager and if you do not get a satisfactory response then approach
the Banking ombudsman.

This is discrimination based on disability which is totally bard under

to resolve the problem and they should also be educated about their

Re: [AI] List down your accessibility issues with PDFs

2019-09-07 Thread Narendra Sathe
I feel that the following issues relating with inaccessibility of PDF documents
 1) There are some PDF documents which JAWS fails to read and in case
of such PDF documents JAWS just announces as empty document. You then
need to sit and convert these PDF documents using ocr to make them
 accessible.

2)Even In case of PDF documents which are accessible with JAWS,
Navigating through such documents is also a very difficult task and
this must be simplified and made easy.

 3) Even In case of PDF documents which are accessible with
JAWSSearching through such PDF documents using the find option is also
 not easy.

 4) Efforts be made to make PDF documents as user friendly with JAWS as
 word documents.

Narendra

2. Where will the appeal from SCPD/ CCPD be filed ?

3. Can the High Court or Supreme Court directly be approached by
filing a Writ/ PIL?

[AI] Exemption to blind law graduates from appearing AIBE

2018-08-31 Thread Narendra Sathe
Hello all
Greetings for the day

As you all might be aware that the Bar Council of India has made it
mandetary to all law graduates who have obtained their degree in law
post 2009-2010 to give the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). It is
only after successfully clearing this exam that the candidate will
receive his certificate of practise in law. This exam is conducted in
open book form. Thus blind law graduates who intend to give this exam
would obviously require to depend on their scribe in order to search
the relevant answers from the material in hand. So I feel that blind
law graduates should be exempted from this exam. I think bblind law
graduates should be exempted from appearing AIBE.
I request fellow access members to give their views on this topic

 Well-expressed Sumathi!

However, you should not be too much concerned about other people's
lives. Access Indians are aware about how to avail means to fulfill
their ends. Reading-writing-posting is not the cup of tea of everyone.
It requires efforts and above all some vision. We are living in very
competitive age in which Some hide information, some keep with
themselves and some do share widely. And all types of people go on
doing what pleases them distinctly. Though you have not named my name
 however I know I do post very frequently. Why I post? 1. I'm a
disabled disability researcher and by posting on AI I achieve two
things. A maintain my archive which is easily available to me for
future usage. B I firmly believe blind people are still suffer from
famine of info and knowledge hence this much time is just to encourage
friends to be a varicious reader and keep track of disability
discourse which directly effect our well-beings. Note: this should not
be construed as I know everything and behaving in big brotherly way.
Let me share one thing on public fora which I have never discussed out
of my close friend circle. When I chose to work on disability
policies in the country and saw the references and representations, I
was shocked to notice that efforts and contribution made by blind
people over the years are not at all refered or known by the
policy-makers. Why activists such as Mr Javed Abidi is known world
over despite his falicious understanding about the issues cause he
writes and posts and cells himself. However blind people who have
struggled hard for the rights of all disabled and have faced the
lathis several times in the past have remained untouchables for the
media, academia and the state. It hurts certainly hurts. Therefore, I
do a small attempt to provoke friends to take up disability studies
and contribute to the discourse and generate knowledge in the field.
If you have time and patience you could see the recent collection of
AI archive where the articles I shared on the list have travelled fast
on other lists and the hidden issues blown up, discourse generated and
awakening and alertness was felt. Thank you for your concern. Of
course our professional lives are more important then sharing and
posting on this mailing group free of cost; However it has its own
charm which some of us try to manage in our busy money-minded lives.

I have filed a special leave petition in Supreme Court where I have to
proov that having 70% visual impairement I am covered by the
definition of blindness, hence I should be allowed to avail the
facility of the scribe in the public services examination. Wherein I
was denyed to appear in the examination on the same basis that I am

only those candidate can be considered blind who have 100% blindness.

However, blind covers total lack of sight as well as some degree as

Hey experts, I would be thankful if somebody could explain to me the
 section
2(b) of Persons with disabilities Act 1995.
For ready reference, I am reproducing the section as follows:
Sec2(b) define blindness, it provides “(b) blindness refers to a
condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions,
 namely:---
 (I) total absence of sight.
(ii) visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better
 eye with correcting lenses; or
(iii) limitation of the filed of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree
 or
 worse.”

Please explain to me the second and third point, so that I could argue
 that
a person who has 10% remaining sight, is covered by the definition of
 blindness.
The case is that who is a blind person. One point is clear that who has no
sight is a blind person, but what is second and third point

2015-04-01 Thread Narendra Sathe
HI all
It was in may 2000 when I became 15 I was diagnosed RP. At that time I
had manageable vision but now I have very little vision left. It is
solely due to my family that I could face the vision loss phase of my
life with great strength. In between sometime I feel little restless

For long 7-8 years I keep fighting like a warrior never submitting to

I would like to summarize my experiences in the following points:

It is my own duty to rehabilitate myself.

Subject: Re: [AI] Victims of RP

Hi, I am suffering with loss of center vision since my childhood.
Doctors says that this is a special type of RP which begins from center and
gradually moves towards the periphery. Recently from 12 inches I could see
only the first line. But I have been doing eye yoga since more then 16 yrs
although not very regularly except the first 5 years, but still I strongly
believe I could protect my vision from total vision loss. Just 4 months
 back
I met with a not so very common eye condition called uvitis in my left eye.
I couldn't see anything with my left eye then. However with steroids there
was some improvement. Still lots of pigmentation occurs at times due to
which my vision goes down drastically. I came across a naturopathic doctor.
According to him any condition can be reversed with appropriate diet.
So he gave me some routine diets to have with regular foods such as lots of
sallads made of carrot and all. I am following prescription given by him
 and
within 4 weeks, I could even read the 4th line on the chart from 12 inches.
The pigmentation in my left eye is gradually decreased in frequency and I
 am
feeling better. He assured me within 6 months you will be able to read all
the 7 lines of the chart from 36 inches which constitutes 3/6 vision. I am
positive on this and moving ahead. I will also take some new exercises with
him after monsoon, until then I will honestly follow the diet plan.

Subject: Invitation for the National level Youth Fest cum Legal
Orientation Program for Disabled Students with special focus on
 students with visual impairment
 To: shahi88avin...@gmail.com

 Dear Sir,

The Indian Law Society established the Law College in 1924, with a view to
impart socially relevant legal education with scientific temper. The
college is amongst the premier institutions, universities, and colleges
undertaking legal and juridical studies. We are aware that the 'Higher
Education for Persons with Special Needs' (HEPSN) program is now integral
to the agenda of the University Grants Commission and keeping in view the
same college has established the Equal Opportunity cum Enabling Cell on 4
January 2013. Presently in our college around 20 differently-abled students
are prosecuting the study of law. The main objective underlying the
establishment of this Cell is to develop awareness in the higher education
 system.

This year the Cell has decided to organize an ambitious national level
'youth fest cum legal orientation program for disabled students with
special focus on students with visual impairment' on 28 February and 1
March 2015, to bring together visually challenged students from
universities and colleges across the country and to provide them exposure
to the relevant knowledge of law, career counseling and personality
development tips. A number of visually challenged role models will motivate
the students by their presentations and we will also nurture the cultural
and sports talent of the students by organizing a small cultural and sports
 event.

We heartily extend our warm invitation to you to participate in this event
and offer your valuable inputs. We would like you to be on the panel during
the 'Open house' on 28 February 2015 from 5 pm - 6 pm. We would also
request you to make a presentation of about 20 minutes motivating students
about the career opportunities in the field of Research, in the
 session on 'Career
guidance and counselling' on 1 March 2015 from 8.30 am - 11.00 am.

We request you to nominate 4-5 visually challenged students from your
institution for the event. We have made lodging and boarding facilities for
the participants from 27 February afternoon to 2 March evening. We would
also pick them from the railway station if required. All this is free of
charge. However, we cannot promise travel cost reimbursement due to limited
funds. We are attaching herewith the Registration form, the invitation
letter for institutions and the general structure of the programme for your
 kind perusal.

 With regards,

 Dr. Sanjay Jain
