RE: [AI] Regarding accessibility of Medium site on screen readers

2024-06-13 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi,

As a reader, I do not have a problem with medium.com per se.

As always, content creators need to account for accessibility. E.G., many
equations are rendered as images. You can however render them as text as well.

I did consider writing on medium and the last I checked, authoring was
accessible.

Pranav

[AI] Regarding accessibility of Medium site on screen readers

2024-06-12 Thread Srinidhi Raghavan
Dear friends,

I am Srinidhi and I work at Rising Flame. I wanted to write in and check if
any screen reader users had tested the accessibility of the Medium website?
I found an article from 2022 that flags the access issues but wondering if
anyone had any updated info? Access audit of Medium site:
https://sheribyrnehaber.com/an-accessibility-review-of-the-new-medium-site/

I had some trouble while navigating it on Voiceover and it was
unpredictable in its reading of the piece itself. Would appreciate any
experiences you'll have had on the website and if the website is something
screen reader users can access.

Thank you! and Look forward to hearing from you about it!

Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content

2023-03-22 Thread Aparna Sachdev
Hello
I've also been considering a Kindle device off and on for a long time now,
but haven't taken the plunge yet. VoiceDream does fine for me, so far. I
had a couple of questions though, which I'd be happy to have your help with:

   - The adapter you mentioned using with your PaperWhite: what is that
like? I think of it like one of those dongles you use with wireless
keyboards - how close to the actual thing (or not!) am I with that? Is it
   convenient to keep track of?
   - In terms of granular navigation, how responsive do you find VoiceView
to be? If you're doing a read-all, for example, and you want to navigate to
a particular sentence/word and take a look at it again, is the response
time alright when you change granularity? Does it happen as quickly as you
want it to/as quickly as you can move your fingers in the required
gestures? (I've tried out VoiceView on an Echo Show, and I find it a bit
laggy. Is that true for the Kindle as well?)
   - Possibilities of an external keyboard: do they have VoiceView-specific
keyboard commands, if you were to connect an external keyboard to the
Kindle? Also, when you say the highlight and annotation features aren't
accessible, would that be true for an external keyboard as well (provided
there are specified keyboard commands for actions), or is it a focus issue
(i.e. VoiceView focus just doesn't go to those options)?

Also, an aside to people who use VoiceDream Reader: can you get highlights
and annotations to work with VoiceOver? From what I remember reading, that
functionality isn't available to VoiceOver users because text selection
doesn't work as expected within the app, and there are no app-specific
gestures for that either. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I'd really like
to be wrong here. Do let me know if there's any way to highlight and/or
annotate things.

Thanks in advance, Tony, and I look forward to responses from others as
well who might have anything to share.
Cheers,
Aparna

Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content

2023-03-20 Thread Tony Kurian
Hello,
Responding to a few queries here.
1. Why do we need a separate Kindle devise? Well, this is purely a
choice. For people who wish to read uninterrupted, Kindle is a great
choice. With shortening attention span, using Kindle is a way for
reading without distraction.
2. Braille display? Refer the following link.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201829370#:~:text=Press%20the%20Power%20button%20until,tap%20Pair%20Bluetooth%20Braille%20Display.
3. Kindle unlimited? You don’t need a kindle unlimited subscription to
use Kindle devise. Almost all books on Kindle unlimited can be
downloaded from pirate or torrent websites. Well, sorry for mentioning
piracy here, I am a believer in copy left more than copy right.
4. You need to separately buy those books which are not included in
kindle unlimited.
5. You don’t have to convert Kindle books to epub, Kindle books are
super accessible within Kindle devises. On the other hand, if you have
a PDF book downloaded from a pirate website, you can convert it in to
epub and read on kindle devise.
More than happy to connect on this over phone. My contact is 84519 76069.
Cheers,
TK

Hi! I also have some queries regarding Kindle devices. First, I am interested to use Kindle with braille displays, please tell which Kindle device is compatible Wich can be connected with Any Braille display and its books can be access in Braille? Second thing, if we buy any Kindle device, do we also need to subscribe kindle unlimited separately,  for reading Kindle unlimited books, or we can read all books without the subscription in Kindle device? Third, I know that not all books are included  in the Kindle unlimited subscription, some books are needed to be purchased separately. Do we also need to purchase those separately in Kindle device? Lastly, can we definitely convert kindle books to epub with Kindle device for our convenience? Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content

2023-03-07 Thread Tony Kurian
Hello,
I am a user of Kindle devises for few years now. here is some
information which I hope will be of help for you.
I am not sure about the accessibility of basic kindle devise. Kindle
paper white is accessible. However, you will have to purchase a
separate audio adapter for this. this is because Kindle paper white
does not have a head phone jack or speaker. Ones you plug in the audio
adapter, Voiceview screen reader will start functioning. Note:
functionalities such as note taking, colour marking, annotating etc
are not available when you use Voiceview on kindle paper white.
If you are interested in using Kindle devises, the best solution is
buying Kindle fire HD tablet. I could not find this devise on Amazon
India.you can get this devise from amazon.com and it cost less than
100$. During black Friday, you get this for 45$ or so. do connect with
me offline if you are exercising this option as there are a couple of
minor caveats to follow.
Finally, rather than converting kindle books in to other formats, the
best way to use kindle devices is by converting all books in to epub
and reading them on kindle. It is super portable and you can take
notes etc if you are on kindle fire tab. You can also sink your notes
to kindle pc.
I hope this has been of help. Feel free to write to me if you have any
other clarifications.
Cheers,
Tony

2023-03-07 Thread Pranav Lal
Dear Avichal,

You cannot convert the majority of kindle books to other formats due to digital
rights management.

The conversion programs that other list members have mentioned do work but you
will need to break the digital rights management protection first which is
illegal.

Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content

2023-03-07 Thread pavan kallem
hi Prof Avichal,
Thank you for your email and for your interest in Kindle devices sold
by Amazon. As far as accessibility is concerned, Amazon has made
efforts to ensure that its devices are fully accessible to all users.
Kindle devices offer audio support for most functions, which makes
them suitable for use by people with visual impairments.
Regarding your query about the latest version of Kindle for PC, it is
fully accessible with JAWS, which makes it easier for visually
impaired users to navigate and interact with the software.
Regarding your query on converting Kindle books to other formats such
as pdf, there are several options available. You can use a software
program like Calibre to convert your Kindle books into various formats
including PDF, EPUB, and MOBI.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let me know if you
have any further queries or concerns.
Best regards,

[AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content

2023-03-07 Thread Avichal Bhatnagar
Hello list members,
As the subject line indicates, I want to know that are the kindle
devices being sold by Amazon completely accessible for us?
I mean, do they provide complete audio support for all functions, like
how we get in daisy players?
Also, is the latest version of Kindle for PC fully accessible with JAWS?
Lastly, if anyone knows a way to convert Kindle books into any other
format such as pdf, please do write to me on my personal chat.
Thanks,
Avichal

2022-12-17 Thread Minar Singh
Hi

I had used Chrome book some time back. Chrome OS has built in screen
reader known as Chromevox and it is the only one screen reader
available for the Chrome OS. You can turn on/off Chromevox by pressing
alt-control-z. You may have to learn some keyboard shortcuts before
you start using so you will not feel stuck. I think it is better to
use Chromevox screen reader with google products because screen
readers meant for the window Operating System do not always function
properly and NVDA is causing accessibility issues with google products
such as google docks, Google sheet and Google slide.

[AI] Regarding accessibility of Chrome books. *Personal experiences only.

2022-12-17 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Dear All,
Greetings,
Chrome books are such laptops which comes with Chrome OS instead of Windows
or Mac OS.
Chrome books come with better specs and are less expensive comparatively.
My work mostly runs around Google applications like Google docs, sheets,
slides, drive, chrome etc.
Therefore, I am thinking to get a chrome book for my self.
If some one of you has personally used one, Could you please tell me
regarding the accessibility of the same? And regarding the screen readers
which can be used for the same?
And how advanced are these screen readers on this Chrome OS.
And if you have faced any difficulty or challenges using a chrome book.
Thank You.
Cauvery Krishna.

Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility issues with Axis Bank

2021-03-24 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
I do have a Standard Chartered credit card, and using their mobile app
and website both.
Both are reasonably accessible, very functional with a few buttons
here and there that are not labeled correctly on the Android app. The
website is pretty OK, but the registration process has a captcha to
navigate. But they do have an audio captcha option, so pretty OK on
that front.
Said that, I did have initial difficulties getting my credit card
application approved as they created issues regarding disability,
signature and so on, but intervention from the top fixed the issue.
But yes, their online banking, on both Windows and Android, are very
decent in terms of accessibility.

Just got a thought in my mind if anyone has an account on Standard
Chartered and how does it work? Coz it operates in nations where
accessibility is required by law and should have a better experience in

Hello,

Can you rate accessibility of various sites? Take into consideration both
net banking and mobile banking etc. We should open account after checking
these factors. We must be able to handle our own money.

Dear all,
I am writing this in the context of my experience with the Axis Bank
online banking system. I happen to be a credit card only user of Axis
Bank. Axis has 2 basic channels for online banking the Axis Bank
website, and the Axis Mobile App on Android and IOS platforms.
For some reasons, Axis hasn't allowed me to register for online
banking on the website, each time I tried to register online, the
system said my customer ID was invalid. On asking, the customer care
had no clear idea as to why this was happening, though someone in the
sales department speculated that they allow only account holders to
use the web interface and CC only users have only the mobile app. On
asking around among users though, I came across CC only users using
online banking on Axis website.
I was using the Axis Mobile app on Android. At the outset when I
started using the app, it was, like many banking apps, not a hundred
percent in terms of accessibility. There were significant issues, but
if you've been around Android a bit, then you could kind of use most
features.
However, I recently found out that after an update, the app has broken
accessibility completely. There is no interaction whatsoever with
on-screen content as far as TalkBack is concerned. It doesn't read any
controls, just doesn't read anything really on the screen, no matter
you touch and explore or swipe. It is the first time that I have come
across a 100 percent inaccessible banking app, that too from a major
bank in the country.
Anyone else facing similar issues with Axis Bank? Any workarounds?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of Tally software with screen readers

2018-09-13 Thread Sameer

Dear Friend,

Tally is not as accessible with screenreaders as some other softwares like
Word, Excel etc. But blind users can work in Tally using the JAWS cursor for
navigating through screens & available choices.

I would say that Tally is about 75% accessible with JAWS. The major point
where Tally is not accessible is the new Company creation screen where the
user needs to take sighted help. Also, if an account name exceeds 24
characters, Tally reduces the font size to fit the entire name in the
account field. This reduction in font size makes the letters too small for
JAWS to read & JAWS will stay silent on that particular account name.

Apart from the above, a blind user can navigate through Tally with the JAWS
cursor & successfully work on par with sighted users.

 Hello,
This is the mail regarding accessibility of SBI Net Banking. Recently,
SBI has introduced new interface in the personal login of its Net

options. I think SBI has lack in addressing accessibility issues for
its screen reader users. amongst several hurdles, one greatest
challenge is to click on logout option after finishing the work.

previously, after clicking on this otion logout, we were easily
directed to logout confirmation page but now despite clicking on
logout option, nothing happens. previously, we also had the chance of
using many access keys for logout, profile, etc but now all these
access keys has been taken up.

I am using jaws 18 with window8 on my laptop. so does anyone has the
 solution for this problem?
 kindly advise.
 thanking you in anticipation,

The feedback page is to submit the feedback for the new interface, and
the logout is the first link on every page.
if feedback is displayed, complete it and you are logged-out, else it
happens right away.

Hi I too was wondering over the issue as after clicking on log out it
never logged out instead it remained in the same page and on
navigating through the entire page somewhere it prompted to rate its
new interface.
So just try pressing the hot key 'b' for button and press on the
'close' button on the page that prompts to rate the interface...
Hope this may be your issue...

Hi, you could also try www.TripleClicks.com as an alternative to flipp
cart. It's user interface is pretty accessible and there are more than
90,000 various categories of products for which buyers bid in order to
avail the best and least price possible

Its a security risk and IE identified your code as a cross site

this setting as desired under security tab. Check whether security

Its a security risk and IE identified your code as a cross site
scripting attack. This popup can be hidden by the user by lowering his
browser security level and is not recommended. However, you may modify
this setting as desired under security tab. Check whether security
zone level is set to default.

Thanks,

Amit Bhatt

Hi, dear Access Indian friends. I am a school student and in school we
have many tests on some softwares. Please I would like to know if they
are reasonably accessible, their inaccessible features and their
keyboard shortcuts. I would also like to know if the software would be
more accessible with JAWS 14.0 or latest version of NVDA.
1. Microsoft Office Word 2010
2. Microsoft Excel 2010
3. Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010
4. Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003

I would also like to know which of the following is the best and most
accessible web browser.
1. Google Chrome
2. Mozilla Firefox
3. Internet Explorer
Note: I am asking about the accessibility of the latest versions of
these web browsers. I would surely appreciate the keyboard shortcuts
of the web browser that matches my conditions.
I would really appreciate an early reply.

Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of some softwares

2013-10-15 Thread Hozefa Tambawala
Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2010 are fully accessible with
JAWS 12 and later versions. In JAWS 12 and above, there is a feature
“Use Virtual Ribbon Menu”. This feature is specifically designed for
the ribbons which are introduced in Office 2007 and later. After
turning on this feature, the ribbons are grouped into various
categories and referred as submenu by JAWS. You can navigate ribbons
by pressing ALT and then UP, DOWN, LEFT AND RIGHT ARROW keys. If you
wish to navigate ribbons without turning on this feature, you can do
so by pressing ALT AND then TAB key to get into the ribbon. These
applications can also be used with earlier version of JAWS but the
chances of accessibility are less.

You can use Windows 8 OS but for that you need to install JAWS 15
which is currently in the beta stage. You can get JAWS 15 beta demo
from,
http://www.freedomscientific.com

The browsers Firefox and Internet Explorer are fully accessible with Jaws.
