Re: [AI] Regarding Internet Banking:
In response to Rajesh Sir, Mr. / Ms. Hasan (request you to write your name at the end) and Vidhya: Rajesh Sir: simply put, pre-login image and message is a means to reassure you that you are on the authentic page of HDFC Netbanking. This image is selected by the user after login for secure enrolment out of the available options, and the message is something user-defined. To give an analogy here, Verified-by-Visa and Master Card work on the similar model. Where on the merchant's website once you enter the card credentials and move on to secured authentication page for keying in the password, you see your chosen personalised message. Mr. / Ms. Hasan: please visit: https://netbanking.hdfcbank.com (I understand your concern that from the homepage after selecting netbanking radio button you are not getting re-directed to netbanking page). By doing this, you will be able to workaround the issue. Vidhya: SBI had similar issues with couple of cases when long back there was a circular to provide Braille kit for netbanking, which of course operationally was difficult to deal with. My suggestion to you is to write to Mr. Bansal (CMD of Corporation Bank) on the generic ID: c...@corpbank.co.in and copy to RBI Governor on gover...@rbi.org.in unless and until our problems reach out to RBI and top management, these issues will continue to crop up every single day. I sincerely feel that as a regulator RBI needs to do more by imposing penalties, by ensuring that inspection reports capture not just the Talking ATMs compliance percentage but also the standard of quality among others. Financial inclusion discrimination has been pissing me off every single day and I want all of us to make a collective effort on this issue. Regards -- Amar Jain. Re: [AI] Regarding Internet Banking:
Hi All, Since the threat has generated a huge response, I thought to come-in, although I am not specifically writing for Vidhya's project because I have no background. Anyways I wanted to throw light on inaccessibility issues and one of the recent issues I have come across is the 2-factor authentication methods. As far as software tokens are concerned, based on my one-time personal experience with various banks, I don't think software tokens are big issue really. Be it a mobile app or be it a Windows file to import for generating the codes, by and large they seem accessible and usable. My concern is about the hardware devices. Although there are not many banks which are offering this, but I know for sure that Axis offers a touch device, SBI had started offering state bank secure hardware token on trial basis (not sure if it is rolled out now), but I have not had comfortable experience with any of the hardware tokens in figuring out the codes. In an interesting move, Axis Bank had very recently officially announced the launch of its "Display Debit Card", which apart from an EMV chip also contains touch screen and a button to generate a code. I have not yet experienced this product personally, but informally I understand that this is not useful for us. Are there any consumers on the list who have had any experiences with these devices and if so what is the current state of accessibility? Another challenge on some banks has been the pre-login authentication. For instance, HDFC will soon launch a music based logo on its netbanking, ATMs, point-of-sail terminals, among others. Which is unique in its own way. Some banks have had captcha issues on login screen including new accounts setup for HDFC which cannot be solved using add-on like Webvisum. Looking forward for qualitative inputs from everyone. Regards, -- Amar Jain. Thanks a lot for all your responses! I'll surely include it in my Project. When I requested the Corporation Bank for an Internet Bank facility, The concern was that while the first time password and ID is given in a Sealed Envelope , the bank feels that since I have to take sighted help, it's not private. though I convinced them that My Parents help me, they refused to accept. and also it took a lot of time to explain that I too can use the Computer and Infact, I have Studied Computer Science(I tried telling them without a Computer How could I do that?) finally, it did not work,. Re: [AI] Regarding Internet Banking:
I use the net banking services of SBI, Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). I find Indian bank internet banking more convenient for me than the other two. SBI is of course good, but I find Indian bank site more easy to navigate in less time. Though Indian Overseas bank is accessible, the fund transfer, add payee and remove payee options are not read out by the screen readers. Because, once you move your cursor to these options, the additional links appear to the right or left side. Those links (such as intra-bank transfer, NEFT, RTGS) are not read out by Jaws or NVDA. This is a serious problem and it will be better if someone can suggest me some solution... Hi Vidhya, Greetings for the day! I use the internet banking of United Bank of India (UBI). It is known as E Banking. In the home page of UBI, there is a link as "screen reader"; click it and it works very well. One has to send an application to the UBI branch where one is having the account and they do extend the internet facility to the visually impaired persons. -- "Good friendship is like the relationship between eye & hand! Re: [AI] regarding internet banking.
Sir in that case I am not the right person who can update you in this matter. I am not asking my branch because I am afraid that if they give me access of this site then what if they take away my access to the normal site. Knowing the fact that my branch people are extremely sensible. I am happy with normal site. And I contacted the SBI call center, but they even don't know about net banking for visually challenged. Lets wait for Madhav sir's reply since I think he has used it so he might be able to guide us properly. Re: [AI] regarding internet banking.
Respected Madhav Sir, As per my knowledge can't we tell the branch to allow access to the website for VI? Because I have login for main site, and now if I want access to website for VI I will need to tell branch to give me access to that part and they can do it in few clicks. The intention is to have only one login and not to different different logins. I feel it is possible. Please correct me if I am wrong. The main website onlinesbi.com is used by the sighted users. There is a separate section for the visually impaired people. Firstly, you will be allowed to log in to that special website. I would like to tell you that on that website, you cannot avail all the banking facilities such as you cannot transfer money to any third party account. You have limited access. If you have two accounts in SBI, You can transfer money from one account to another. You can check your balance. Once you feel comfortable in using net banking on the special website for the visually impaired, give an application to your branch. They will authorize you to use main website. You will get separate log in ID and password. Then only you can enjoy full-fledged net banking. The key combination Alt+0 can be used to lock the internet bank account. -- Madhav Chandra Das http://madhav-knowledgeresource.blogspot.com/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Respected Sir, Internet banking is very much safe for us, provided that we maintain the confidentiality of the login information. It is advisable to not to use public computers for internet banking, so if you have computer at home, you may use there confidently. And the features like enable high security in SBI which sends you an sms which contains password, for any transaction makes E-banking more secure. Same way in the case of cards you have got feature of extra authentication while transacting online using your card which will be introduced in IVRS by 2011 as per latest guidelines of RBI makes it secure. The new feature of SBI net banking for visually challenged which allows you to lock your username instantly using a keystroke in case of any thret provides you good security. I don't have good knowledge about it, but few banks have come up with some USB device concept. It is a security measure but what it is all about, I don't know. So if you are confident that you can maintain account login information, and if you can insure that your computer is secured in a way not full of viruses etc, then you are good to go. I am using E-banking, and hasn't come across any risky incident as such.
