Hi Access Indians,

While I took wheelchair assistance for my mom while traveling from
Hyderabad to Kuwait, Dubai, and Saudi, I observed the wheelchair assistant
person asking for a tip.

Another aspect is there. As rightly said above it is an individual choice.
But sometime some staff gets so accustomed to tips that they start making
demands. Some persons who cant afford have to face bad reactions, nasty
remarks,comments.
So this aspect that it is not mandatory ,customary to give tips needs to be
repeatedly stated somewhere for such staff to know it and not fall into a
habit to pressurise people to give tips.

RE: [AI] Should we offer money as a tip to airlines staff or not?

2024-03-17 Thread george.abraham0
I have travelled a great deal. Believe it is the job of the Airline to provide
assistance to passengers who are disabled. However in the US, the person who
assists often asks for a tip. The challenge is to decide as to how much to tip.
This asking for tip I have experienced only in the US.

 Respected Kaveri Madam,

I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to share some thoughts regarding the
practice of offering tips, especially in situations where individuals are on
low wages.

In my opinion, offering a tip is a personal choice, and I believe it's
important to extend it to those who may be on low wages, such as ground staff
and drivers. These individuals often go out of their way to assist us, and the
tip they receive can make a significant difference for their families.

Furthermore, I strongly believe that if someone genuinely helps us, it's only
fair to express our appreciation through a tip. However, it's essential to be
mindful of the context, especially when dealing with individuals who hold
executive or senior positions. Offering a tip to such individuals might be
perceived as inappropriate or offensive.

Therefore, while I prefer to offer tips in situations where it's warranted, I
also understand the importance of being respectful and considerate in our
interactions. Instead of offering tips directly, I believe it's more
appropriate to express our gratitude through words and greetings.

Thank you for considering my perspective on this matter.

Warm regards,

Editing. Personally speaking, it is the duty of the airlines to provide
assistance for people with disabilities in general. Should we tip them or
not, it is the choice of individuals. However, when I was coming from
Australia to Amritsar, one guy asked for Rs 1,000 actually, maybe because
he saw that I was a foreigner. He wouldn't let me go easily.

Re: [AI] Should we offer money as a tip to airlines staff or not?

2024-03-17 Thread Khandu Bhandare
Respected  Kaveri Madam,I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to share some thoughts regarding the practice of offering tips, especially in situations where individuals are on low wages. In my opinion, offering a tip is a personal choice, and I believe it's important to extend it to those who may be on low wages, such as ground staff and drivers. These individuals often go out of their way to assist us, and the tip they receive can make a significant difference for their families.Furthermore, I strongly believe that if someone genuinely helps us, it's only fair to express our appreciation through a tip. However, it's essential to be mindful of the context, especially when dealing with individuals who hold executive or senior positions. Offering a tip to such individuals might be perceived as inappropriate or offensive. Therefore, while I prefer to offer tips in situations where it's warranted, I also understand the importance of being respectful and considerate in our interactions. Instead of offering tips directly, I believe it's more appropriate to express our gratitude through words and greetings.Thank you for considering my perspective on this matter.Warm regards,On Mar 17, 2024, at 01:55, 'Mahendragalani' via AccessIndia wrote:I am talking from my own experiences, not once but many times. If we found satisfied hospitality, then its fine to pay few pennies to them.
Other wise its ok.

But if we reverse the situation excepting complementary is also not good idea.

Yes, I agree with Mahendra's opinion that lower staf people expect money in
return for guiding us. I too have experienced this in my life several times.
Sometimes back when I was traveling to my office for an event in the cab
provided by the office, the driver started negotiating with me for extra money
because of my disability. I had escalated to the relevant department and to my
immediate supervisor. I had this type of experience with an OLA cab driver also.

2024-03-16 Thread 'Mahendragalani' via AccessIndia
I personally think, one should not offer them any. It is usual that they are trained, and therefore it is part of their duty lower level staff expect, however, it is also that duty. This is more to do, that British introduced this concept in most countries. I travel a lot here in Europe, as well as once to India every year, and staff everywhere is well-trained to assist us. Hope it helps.  Mahendra Galani, With warm regards.
