Hi Keshav, Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, it is very important for me to look at the legal aspects of doing all this. I will certainly consult experts before introducing any feature like this. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
hi list, i always tell that we don't want pity, we want opportunity. no body says diwakar should be voted just because he is blind. he is really a tallented boy. there is nothing wrong in supporting him. however it is also true that blind people get less opportunities to show their tallent. whenever such situation comes we must encourage them instead of making it a conterversial issue. those who have not seen his performance may kindly watch Zee tv. on 14/9/2006 at 10 p.m. regards dattu agarwal BHAWANI SHANKAR VERMA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: creating link in accessindia site, practically not possible, each company and programme producer has its own copyright, however, to put anything on site, you have to have a digital version of that particular object. i just posted that matter because diwakar is a blind and has also a tallent to sing a song. i was not a regular viewer of that particular programme, two or three weeks ago, my friend rang me and told that some blind boy is appearing on that particular tv show, then i started listening that programme, if he just told that listen that particular programme, without referring diwakar with his disability, i never listen such programme. secondly, after this final show, i won't watch this programme, i believe on early to bed and early to rise. say goodluck for diwakar and his show. thanks. - Original Message - From: "mufazal munshi" To: Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 12:50 PM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > kirans point is taken, but since i believe that at least one of us has > probably listened to the fellow or atleast Bhawani has, then, lets invest > in his good faith and send an SMS. creating link in accessindia site, practically not possible, each company and programme producer has its own copyright, however, to put anything on site, you have to have a digital version of that particular object. i just posted that matter because diwakar is a blind and has also a tallent to sing a song. i was not a regular viewer of that particular programme, two or three weeks ago, my friend rang me and told that some blind boy is appearing on that particular tv show, then i started listening that programme, if he just told that listen that particular programme, without referring diwakar with his disability, i never listen such programme. secondly, after this final show, i won't watch this programme, i believe on early to bed and early to rise. say goodluck for diwakar and his show. thanks. - Original Message - From: "mufazal munshi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 12:50 PM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > kirans point is taken, but since i believe that at least one of us has > probably listened to the fellow or atleast Bhawani has, then, lets invest > in his good faith and send an SMS. kirans point is taken, but since i believe that at least one of us has probably listened to the fellow or atleast Bhawani has, then, lets invest in his good faith and send an SMS. It may not do so much harm to our Equal opportunity demand and at the same time might land up giving the boy some leverage. our demand for equal opportunity is a social norm that we need to establish to persons outside of our realm of blindies. within our limited judgement if we were to create a ground for one amongst us, the idea of social equality may not become challengeable. none the same now the time to take action has passed, as our SMS's may hold no value. but, perhaps in the future if such a request was found with a link to our access india site allowing all to listen to the talent of any candidate, then, not only would one be able to excercise ones own judgement about the person concerned but also remove scope to any misunderstanding. i hope my opinion will not be met with offense. - Original Message - From: "Kaja, Kiran" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mukesh Sharma" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 11:32 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > As I mentioned in my earlier posts, whether to vote or not to vote is an > individual decision of each of us. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
As I mentioned in my earlier posts, whether to vote or not to vote is an individual decision of each of us. We are just trying to discuss the topic. We are not going to pass a decree that all AI members should or should not vote. And when nearly 300 people discuss, there is bound to be difference of opinion. The whole point of this exercise is to understand each other's point of view. We do not have to agree with someone else. But it is sometimes better to know what other people think about an issue on which you have strong views. We should never take these discussions personally. I never blamed Bhavani for asking others to vote. I merely put forward my views on the matter for the consideration of others. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
if I would had discussion about other children competing with diwakar, then this matter would be considered as an "off topic!" so, it was necessary to introduced diwakar with "blind contestant" now up to some extent it is proved that diwakar is a good singer, i just made an appeal to you all, to help him for final. the matter is upon individual, whether he votes or not. because, this group is meant for visually challenged persons, i was of the opinion that may be he will get at least 100 votes. the matter of advantage against disability concerned, it is my view that everyone either disabled or not, wish to take advantage from where he can. i shared this matter with my sighted colleagues in my office, without introducing diwakar as a blind person, out of 16 12 have not listened him yet, and 14 have voted for him, after their votes, i introduce diwakar as a blind person, now my colleagues are eagerly waiting for the final show. thanks. - Original Message - From: "Anubha Bhargava" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 11:17 PM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > Very true, I completely agree with Kiran. Hi, why people don't understand to take others view as it is even if they do not agree. Every one has some or the other thing different from some one. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
Yes there is no doubt that he is a good singer. I watch this realaty show regularly. I also want to chip in the discussion. I had seen almost every performance of Diwakar and when he got out it was very sad too. But what i noticed that when he use to sing there was some problem in his pitch which was also noticed by the three judges and told him many times that who so ever is teaching you should correct his pitch. One more thing judges also use to mention that he is missing some expression and some feeling is needed in the song. So when he got out according to me he was out only because of pitch problem, expressions and one of you had shared that no sponser would like to make a Blind winner on such a show which is loved by the whole country. You all know that why nowadays singers are also asked to learn how to perform on the stage while he or she is singing. everybody is calling back Diwakar and other 5 singers to come and join the other 5 in the finals, because on the basis of talent. So I am very much clear that there will be some politics in choosing the 6th one. I will apreciate that Diwakaer went in such a competition and reached in last 10 with no fear. i think he gave his best inner talent there and he also made an effort to improve himself after his poor grades. I would like to mention the children who are already there in the TOP5 they are so good that even if the judges will take Diwakar on the basis of his disability then he will get out of the show in the next episode because of other five singers that they are so good that i know one of the girls will win the title. He showed his best of the talent and now there are some more better children then him so i feel if he is not selected this time then he should come to the show again correcting his mistakes and try to show to India that he will win on the basis of talent and not on the basis of blindness. Very true, I completely agree with Kiran. Diwakar should not be voted for only because he is blind. People should only vote for him when according to them he is singing well & deservers victory, not because he is blind. With thanks & regards. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
I fully support Kiran's opinion. Without listening to a program how can one judge other's performance? Mere blindness should not be the criterion for a vote. If one wants to vote for this boy He/she should listen that program carefully and decide on its merits. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
This is not true as for as my experiences tell me. before i got a job, i tried to establish myself in local orchestras in Delhi. generally, the reputed groups like The Bullets did not give me a chance only because of blindness. when it comes to the showmenship, it is not the tallent but the qualities like approachfulness, finding favours and the buttering which are more helpful. - Original Message - From: "rajesh asudani" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 2:49 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > "This is one of these fields where > blind people can compete with the sighted on almost the same ground." > > So, what is the harm if this "...almost" is compensated for by some of > votes irrespective of merits of the case? > > Rajesh. > > > > - Original Message - > From: "Kaja, Kiran" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: > Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 1:06 AM > Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > > >> While I agree that we should be united to form a pressure group to >> represent an issue, I am not sure if this principal of unity holds good >> in this context. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
Hi friends, One should take the matter practically. today, everybody takes advantage of whatever he/she can. on TV shows like the zee Sa Re Ga Ma, sms's are sent by friends and acquaintences not on the basis of performances but purely on the kind of approaches and other considerations than merit. In the case of Diwakar, being a music-lover, I can assure, it is up to the mark. so there is nothing wrong in my view if some of us suggest the group to vote for a person not purely on merit but for some other considerations. As Kirn mentioned, we can't come to a conclusion without listening to the person. So, it's probably not appropriate to say that the guy has come up so far because he is blind. the time is over! however, i spent just 3 rupees from my prepaid cell phone. honestly, i am speeking, i voted diwakar, first for his blindness, secondly for his tallent. sighted people have lots of infrastructure to get such thing, may be diwakar could not be easily entered in such competition, may be he faced lots of difficulties to take participation in this event. if due to my disability, i am able to get some advantage without hurting my society, what's the matter? - Original Message - From: "rajesh asudani" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, September 12, 2006 1:11 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > well, those who have not heard him and so are not quite sure of his > talents, can not they just vote for him due to his blindness? "This is one of these fields where blind people can compete with the sighted on almost the same ground." Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
sir, now the time is over! one thing i would like to add in this discussion, up to some extent people are rejected due to their blindness, not on the ground of their tallent. i had almost four years of experience in this group, i received lots of mails, which says, that a visually impaired person gone for an interview, and he rejected just on the ground of his/her blindness. suppose, if he or she would be selected, and would be working as an executive of that particular company, what would you say, "the company selected him/her on the ground of blindness, not on his/her tallent" rather we can say, i am working in punjab national bank, the bank has selected me on the ground of blindness, not on my tallent? it is my experience of my life, that a blind person never born with a lollypop on his hands, thanks. - Original Message - From: "Suresh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 11:38 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > > > Please advise me what to do in this case. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
Hi, One most imporrtant thing which we must not forget here is that the sponsor of the program is Hero Honda and they will never want a blind person to be their brand ambassador. Therefore, every effort will be made to prevent Diwakar from winning the contest. This could be achieved easily by manipulating the number of votes received by him. - Original Message - From: "Suresh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 11:51 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > Dear Dr. Rohit Trivedi, > >Would you mind naming the people? Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
While I agree that we should be united to form a pressure group to represent an issue, I am not sure if this principal of unity holds good in this context. We are talking of a competition where only talent should matter and not if a person is blind or belongs to a particular community. I seriously don't think that being blind should make you any less talented when it comes to music. This is one of these fields where blind people can compete with the sighted on almost the same ground. So, voting for this boy just because he is blind goes against our demand for equal treatment. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
Yes. You're absolutely right in my opinion. In fact, in such programs, what happens is that the real tallent of a person takes a backseat, and the comunity politics becomes more important. People vote for their family members, relatives, friends and their fellow comunity members, and so should we, I firmly believe. In fact, the issue is not only that we must vote because he is blind. The thing is a blind person, despite his talent, keeps on getting rejected in the normal world, and this rejection can be seen in various fields and is done in various manners, direct as well as indirect. Those blind people who participate in music compititions will surely testify to the fact that very often, people have disqualified them despite the fact that their performance had been more than of A level. Of course, the voting for Diwakar is over now, but I am still putting my views because, I feel, the issue in question here is not only concerned with that definitely tallented child, but with every blind person whom the world refuse to acknowledge despite their tallents and abilities. We, as those who can empathise with such tallented people, must support them in every field. Best regards Viraj. May be he has done well, but most of us who are being advised to vote for him have not heard him perform. In this case, voting for him just because of his blindness is discrimination. he is undoubtedly tallented, i can not post his songs in the list, so, it is practically difficult to say, i cdid not post such that message because of his blindness, but, due to his real tallent, he is really a good singer, due to shortage of some votes, may be he won't reach up to final. access india is the only list where i would like to introduce him. blindness is a secondary reason to post the message. thanks. - Original Message - From: "Kiran Kaja" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, September 10, 2006 11:37 PM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > I am not aware of this context's exact rules or what affect people sending > SMS messages voting for the blind boy would have on his chances, but if > this is a music competition as I understand it is, and if one has to listen > to the program and vote for a participant depending on how the listener > thinks the candidate has performed, the question of the boy being blind > should not be the point of consideration. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
To put it in proper perspective. The program concerned here is one of many such weird programs. (I must acknowledge that My experience is limited to an unfortunate listening of an episode of Indian Idol). I agree that just because someone is blind you shouldn't vote for him, you must look for the talent. However, the candidates are voted by the viewers in such programs for their looks and how much nonsense they can talk. (I am sorry for using such words to those who listen to such programs religiously) If that is the case, there is no harm voting for the blind person just because he is blind, (one of the community, according to some of us) Anyway, contestants are not supported for their talent for music. I have also heard that the producers manipulate the number of votes any candidate gets on the basis how much useful that candidate going to be in future for the sponsors. A winner is definitely going to be more popular and one who is popular is going to be a useful good brand ambassador. If this person has reached a particular level, it must be because of his talent and also perhaps because of a desirable personality, not much idea bout it. I, anyhow, wish him luck. - Original Message - From: "Rohit Trivedi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 12:43 AM Subject: Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR > Yes Kiran, > I too agree with you. Re: [AI] VOTE FOR LITTLE DIWAKAR
I am not aware of this context's exact rules or what affect people sending SMS messages voting for the blind boy would have on his chances, but if this is a music competition as I understand it is, and if one has to listen to the program and vote for a participant depending on how the listener thinks the candidate has performed, the question of the boy being blind should not be the point of consideration. I will not vote for him unless I listen to his performance. He being a blind should never be the criteria for someone to vote for him. But as I said, I am making certain assumptions about the context and also have not followed this thread in detail. What I wanted to convey is that we should not vote for the boy because he is blind. If he is genuinely talented, that is another story.
