Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content
Hello I've also been considering a Kindle device off and on for a long time now, but haven't taken the plunge yet. VoiceDream does fine for me, so far. I had a couple of questions though, which I'd be happy to have your help with: - The adapter you mentioned using with your PaperWhite: what is that like? I think of it like one of those dongles you use with wireless keyboards - how close to the actual thing (or not!) am I with that? Is it convenient to keep track of? - In terms of granular navigation, how responsive do you find VoiceView to be? If you're doing a read-all, for example, and you want to navigate to a particular sentence/word and take a look at it again, is the response time alright when you change granularity? Does it happen as quickly as you want it to/as quickly as you can move your fingers in the required gestures? (I've tried out VoiceView on an Echo Show, and I find it a bit laggy. Is that true for the Kindle as well?) - Possibilities of an external keyboard: do they have VoiceView-specific keyboard commands, if you were to connect an external keyboard to the Kindle? Also, when you say the highlight and annotation features aren't accessible, would that be true for an external keyboard as well (provided there are specified keyboard commands for actions), or is it a focus issue (i.e. VoiceView focus just doesn't go to those options)? Also, an aside to people who use VoiceDream Reader: can you get highlights and annotations to work with VoiceOver? From what I remember reading, that functionality isn't available to VoiceOver users because text selection doesn't work as expected within the app, and there are no app-specific gestures for that either. Please correct me if I'm wrong - I'd really like to be wrong here. Do let me know if there's any way to highlight and/or annotate things. Thanks in advance, Tony, and I look forward to responses from others as well who might have anything to share. Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content
Hello, Responding to a few queries here. 1. Why do we need a separate Kindle devise? Well, this is purely a choice. For people who wish to read uninterrupted, Kindle is a great choice. With shortening attention span, using Kindle is a way for reading without distraction. 2. Braille display? Refer the following link. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201829370#:~:text=Press%20the%20Power%20button%20until,tap%20Pair%20Bluetooth%20Braille%20Display. 3. Kindle unlimited? You don’t need a kindle unlimited subscription to use Kindle devise. Almost all books on Kindle unlimited can be downloaded from pirate or torrent websites. Well, sorry for mentioning piracy here, I am a believer in copy left more than copy right. 4. You need to separately buy those books which are not included in kindle unlimited. 5. You don’t have to convert Kindle books to epub, Kindle books are super accessible within Kindle devises. On the other hand, if you have a PDF book downloaded from a pirate website, you can convert it in to epub and read on kindle devise. More than happy to connect on this over phone. My contact is 84519 76069. Cheers, TK On 20/03/2023, Aman Preet Singh wrote: > Hi! I also have some queries regarding Kindle devices. Hi! I also have some queries regarding Kindle devices. First, I am interested to use Kindle with braille displays, please tell which Kindle device is compatible Wich can be connected with Any Braille display and its books can be access in Braille? Second thing, if we buy any Kindle device, do we also need to subscribe kindle unlimited separately, for reading Kindle unlimited books, or we can read all books without the subscription in Kindle device? Third, I know that not all books are included in the Kindle unlimited subscription, some books are needed to be purchased separately. Do we also need to purchase those separately in Kindle device? Lastly, can we definitely convert kindle books to epub with Kindle device for our convenience? Thanks and regards Aman Preet Singh.Sent from my iPhoneOn 20-Mar-2023, at 10:48 PM, rahul agarwal wrote:hi tony,i want to buy a kindle fire hd tab. i am from india. if you don't mind, please provide your contact details. Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content
Hello, I am a user of Kindle devises for few years now. here is some information which I hope will be of help for you. I am not sure about the accessibility of basic kindle devise. Kindle paper white is accessible. However, you will have to purchase a separate audio adapter for this. this is because Kindle paper white does not have a head phone jack or speaker. Ones you plug in the audio adapter, Voiceview screen reader will start functioning. Note: functionalities such as note taking, colour marking, annotating etc are not available when you use Voiceview on kindle paper white. If you are interested in using Kindle devises, the best solution is buying Kindle fire HD tablet. I could not find this devise on Amazon India.you can get this devise from amazon.com and it cost less than 100$. During black Friday, you get this for 45$ or so. do connect with me offline if you are exercising this option as there are a couple of minor caveats to follow. Finally, rather than converting kindle books in to other formats, the best way to use kindle devices is by converting all books in to epub and reading them on kindle. It is super portable and you can take notes etc if you are on kindle fire tab. You can also sink your notes to kindle pc. I hope this has been of help. Feel free to write to me if you have any other clarifications. RE: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content
Dear Avichal, You cannot convert the majority of kindle books to other formats due to digital rights management. The conversion programs that other list members have mentioned do work but you will need to break the digital rights management protection first which is illegal. Pranav -- Disclaimer: 1. Re: [AI] Regarding accessibility of kindle devices and content
hi Prof Avichal, Thank you for your email and for your interest in Kindle devices sold by Amazon. As far as accessibility is concerned, Amazon has made efforts to ensure that its devices are fully accessible to all users. Kindle devices offer audio support for most functions, which makes them suitable for use by people with visual impairments. Regarding your query about the latest version of Kindle for PC, it is fully accessible with JAWS, which makes it easier for visually impaired users to navigate and interact with the software. Regarding your query on converting Kindle books to other formats such as pdf, there are several options available. You can use a software program like Calibre to convert your Kindle books into various formats including PDF, EPUB, and MOBI. I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let me know if you have any further queries or concerns.
