Re: [AI] Screen reading software for iphone

2010-06-28 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
would appreciate a detailed note on iPhone 3GS and others.
can we use saytext with them?
Is navigating and entering text with voice over convenient?
In other words, can they be used as regular phones, and all included, how much
they would cost?
And, do they have gps receivers?

Sure. both 3GS and 3G are available in India. I didn't mean to suggest that
only iPhone 3G is available.

Re: [AI] Screen reading software for iphone

2010-06-28 Thread Kiran Kaja
All this is a bit confusing to a lot of people. The iPhone 3G when it came
out in 2008 was running iPhone OS 2.x. when iPhone 3GS and iPhone OS 3.0
were released in 2009, users of older iPhone 3G were also given an option to
upgrade their phone's operating system version from iPhone 2.x to 3.0 with
certain limitations. And universal access is one of them.

2010-06-28 Thread Kiran Kaja
I know that there are voices for additional languages in IOS 4 and the new
OS X 10.6.4 but I am not sure if Hindi is one of them.

I'll be getting a new iPhone 4 shortly. I can check and let you know. I
could also update my Mac Book to 10.6.4 but I am holding off on doing that
because a lot of VoiceOver users complained about having problems with
Safari.

With reference to my previous email, I have found from Airtel website that
IPhone 3g costs around 31,000 (Black) 8 gb.
And the other two models which are white and black with 16 GB costs around
36,000.
IPhone 4 will be launched by Vodaphone shortly. Most probably the price will
be announced in July.

VoiceOver has been the default screen reder for iPhone, iPad and other
Apple systems. I happened to see someone demonstrate the screen reader
it is excellent. Clear voice and simple to negotiate the pages. Fact I
herd that iPhone 4G enables devices to wirelessly connect with the brail
output equipment and take output of contents in Braille. How far it is
true or how efficient this would be is something I don't know.

Re: [AI] Screen reading software for iphone

2010-06-25 Thread Kiran Kaja
Both iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (released here in the UK yesterday) have a
built-in screen reader called VoiceOver which provides very good access to
most built-in applications and a number of third-party apps. the older
iPhone 3G available in India doesn't have any accessibility features. There
is also a magnification feature called Zoom in 3GS and 4.

The iPhones have no hardware keys at all for navigating. all the
interaction, including text input is through the touch screen. however,
VoiceOver uses a set of simple gestures for reading out information,
navigating and text input.

Kiran

Not sure what you mean by this. it is common knowledge that accessibility
features have been introduced only in iPhone 3GS and not in 3G.

Re: [AI] Screen reading software for iphone

2010-06-25 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
As I mentioned a few months before, I used the 3gs and it's very good
and the touch screen has been really made accesible. As soon as you
activate the voiceover, the touch screen interface changes and they
have different sounds to indicate various menus. Typing could be a bit
problematic thing, but Iphones and Ipod touch clearly demonstrate the
fact that it is possible to produce phones/computers with in-build
accesibility features that are very reasonable.
