Hi, Ivo
Will you please try to boot the system with the option of pci=nommconf
acpi=noirq pci=nomsi and attach the output of dmesg?
Thanks.

[Bug 9167] No TZ.temp update, no fan control (32-bit ok, 64-bit broken) problems with Acer Aspire 5720, 7720Z - Santa Rosa, T7300

--- Comment #31 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-01-07 01:23 ---
I am giving partial answer, and will provide the complete answer later and let
other people impacted by the issue confirm/complete the answer ...

- BIOS : In fact except Time and Date there is almost nothing you can
parameter, so nothing related to fan and temperature control in BIOS 1.18

- 64 bits : No /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/.../temperature does not get updated and
fan state never change : it stays OFF if T°C limit at boot time and stay on
if T°C limit.
Besides faking the temperature reported by acpi_thermal_get_temperature() does
not change anything.

- CONFIG_HWMON : I confirm that disabling that flag does not change anything.

After returning from holiday, I also upgraded my X61 Tablet to 1.08 (which
seems to have the same changelog as X61/X61s 1.11). Also negatory on the fix
:-( It looks like the X61 and X61 Tablet BIOS code is unified, though...

BIOS 7SET22WW (1.08) has the same changelog as
BIOS 7NET30WW (1.11)

Well, since Santa obviously gave me coal for Christmas, I'll have to wait for
my birthday present then

Same black screen problem with rt2x00-git. No logs.

Just to make it clear: It works with 2.6.23 and external rt2x00-2.0.7, but it
doesn't since it's integrated into mainline kernel.

Rui, can you point Len's attention to this one, pls.
I posted this on acpi list twice. Matthew Garrett had some concerns that some
graphics devices could get rejected wrongly, but this has to be proven by a
real machine/DSDT first (and can then get fixed up more fine grained if
necessary).
IMO my patch should be added, I thought it already had.

Unfortunately is 2.0.7 bad comparison material, it is working because it didn't
do anything...

But to summarize:
 - rfkill: radio enabled - failure
 - rfkill: radio disabled - success
 - ifconfig up: failure
 - ifconfig down: ?

It seems to be related to the radio state, could you confirm that it is working
when the interface is down when suspending?

Hi!
I can answer to the comment #3

With working 2.6.23, if you kill acpid and cat /proc/acpi/event
and press the hotkeys, do you see any events come out?

This metod works I can see ACPI events (lid, Power button) but no ACPI event
associated with hotkeys

Do hotkeys function properly in 2.6.23 with acpi=off?
If yes, do they still function properly in 2.6.24 with acpi=off?

In my configuration kernel doesn`t booting! Boot propcess stops at the stage of
io scheduler cfq registered (default)

Are you running the acpi vidoe driver toshiba_acpi driver in both cases?

yes but no toshiba_acpi becaute U300 has phoenix BIOS :(

I`ve attached acpidump and dmesg results
Mihail

[Bug 9683] max_cstate VMware regression

2008-01-07 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9683

--- Comment #2 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-01-07 11:25 ---
The real bug is that VMware loads slowly without max_cstate=1.
Nobody knows why this workaround is needed, or why it works.
Worse, it doesn't always work, as Mark reports that it doesn't
make the real bug go away on single core systems.

But this but report isn't about the real bug.
This bug report is the regression that this modparam
can no longer be changed at run-time by echoing into sysfs
in 2.6.24-rc. (note that you can still invoke this workaround
at boot time and module load time)

This patch from Mark/Venki addresses sysfs issue at hand.

I'd like to see a new bug report that is filed against
the real problem that this episode has exposed --
that C-states sometimes have a dramatic effect on how
fast VMware loads.

I can see ACPI events (lid, Power button) but no ACPI event
 associated with hotkeys.

 no toshiba_acpi

Okay, that eliminates ACPI events and user-space from the picture,
and also eliminates the toshiba_acpi driver.

Please confirm that if you remove the ACPI video driver from 2.6.23,
that the hotkey actions you describe stop working.

What do you see if you revert drivers/acpi/video.c in 2.6.24
to the version that shipped in 2.6.23?

note that the brightness keys and the touchpad keys
may be different problems. brightness is likely related
to ACPI video driver changes, touchpad may be related
to something else in the Linux input system.

I can say that:

Please confirm that if you remove the ACPI video driver from 2.6.23,
that the hotkey actions you describe stop working.

No it`s not true! I can remove this driver and brightness keys continue to
work. It work in grub also and began to work!

What do you see if you revert drivers/acpi/video.c in 2.6.24
to the version that shipped in 2.6.23?

Nothing happens! Expect that in .23
echo [value] /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
doesnt work but it work in .24 very well!

In 24 brightness keys as I notice rty to work in console but not in X! On
toshoba there are 7 states of brighness. So in console I can reduce from 7 to 0
via 5 3 1 steps and grow via 1 2 4 6 states - it`s unnormal! And it only began
to work if I tune brightness during kernel booting process :)

In .23 works all fn+F[1-11] + fn+Esc keys! They generate event`s in atkbd.c so
I have an opportunitu to write programm to manage them - as in windows.
Toshutils doesn`t work in loptops wiht phoenix bios :( . But now with .24
kernel I can`t do this. I think It would be good idea to return old .23
behavior (expect broken software brightness management in
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness ). But I don`t understand how.

Is anywhere patches only beween old .23 and new .24 acpi subsutem? All other
part of .23 kernel I don`t want to upgrade. The Idea is to upgrade only ACPI
and see to the results...

Mihail.

[Bug 9642] no backlight on lid open starting in 2.6.23 - nx6110

(In reply to comment #15)
Based on the above analysis it seems that 2.6.22 shouldn't work well. But
according to the description it is regression.

Strictly based on backlight is a regression, but I have some progression on
hibernation. About suspend to ram on kernel 2.6.22 had working well. I don't
test it many times. I wrote on #6 that just work on 23 but now I remember that
also worked on 22. I hadn't test much the S3, so I don't remember exactly when
worked or not.
On Kernel 2.6.22 lid works well .

The issue of lid working after hibernation,
the lscpi -vvxxx is different after hibernation and lid works.

All other cases lscpi -vvxxx gives always the same results.
press or not press lid button and with ACPI_DEBUG or with different debug

Please re-enable ACPI_THERMAL in the build,
and verify that boot-time thermal.off=1
is sufficient to prevent the reboot.

if yes, does thermal.nocrt=1 also stop the reboot
and result in any additional dmesg upon the AC plug event?

please paste the contents of /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/* here

to eliminate any user-space interactions, please see
if the reboot occurs when you do AC plug events when
booted only up to single user mode.

Hi, Sergio
Thanks for the test.
The log info in comment #17 is printed by cpu idle, which is not helpful.
Will you please retry the test in comment #15 again?

a. after the system is booted, echo 0x08080004
/sys/module/acpi/paramters/debug_layer and echo 0x081f
/sys/module/acpi/parameters/debug_level
b. get the output of lspci -s :00:1f.0 -vxxx and dmesg before closing lid
c. close the lid
d. get the output of lspci -s :00:1f.0 -vxxx and dmesg after the lid is
open.

After the test ,please attach the above output. (It is noted that two lspci and
dmesg are included for every kernel).

Thanks.

(This is a mass-update to all current FC6 kernel bugs in NEW state)

Hello,

I'm reviewing this bug list as part of the kernel bug triage project, an attempt
to isolate current bugs in the Fedora kernel.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KernelBugTriage

I am CC'ing myself to this bug, however this version of Fedora is no longer
maintained.

Please attempt to reproduce this bug with a current version of Fedora (presently
Fedora 8). If the bug no longer exists, please close the bug or I'll do so in a

[Bug 9702] Asus Laptop ACPI Extras: unsupported model A6JC

2008-01-07 Thread bugme-daemon

--- Comment #8 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-01-07 18:06 ---
It seems that there will be no such error message mwith asus_laptop set.
Asus Laptop ACPI Extras version 0.30
unsupported model A6JC, trying default values
  send /proc/acpi/dsdt to the developers

So it will be better to use asus_laptop rathern asus_acpi for the ASUS
notebook.

This patch fixed this bug.

This patch fixed this issue, it accepts not only such inputs as *:*,
but also accepts such inputs as p*:t* or P*:T* or p*:* or *:t*,
the former * in inputs means the allowed processor performance state,
currently it is only a stub and not set to the processor limit data
structure, the latter * means the allowed processor throttling state
which rages from 0 to 8 generally. This patch strictly limits inputs to
meet the above conditions, any input which can't meet the above conditions
is considered as invalid input.

sizeof patch

Hi, Fabien,

We have tracked this bug down to a bug in SizeOf operator.
Would you please try this patch?

When executing SizeOf operator, Package maybe still invalid due to defered
evaluation.
If so we need to call AcpiDsGetPackageArguments to evaluate the package.

Hmm, I don;t think this is an ACPI issue then.
I can remove this driver and brightness keys continue to work.
It work in grub also and began to work!
I can see ACPI events (lid, Power button) but no ACPI event
 associated with hotkeys.
No hotkey events go via ACPI.
I think this is probably a kerboard driver regression rather than an ACPI
issue.
What do you think, len?

Yes, that one seems to work:

Thank you. Hopefully there will be a more generic solution possible in the
future, so that if HP for example releases an updated BIOS for this machine, it
won't break the quirk (if it is still necessary).

[Bug 9163] Resume form memory suspend causes about a half a minute wait

2008-01-07 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9163

--- Comment #33 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-01-07 23:50 ---
I tried with hpet=disabled (2.6.24-rc6), and I saw no big differences, save
one; This time, the wait happened at suspend instead of resume. Everything went
normal until the s2disk: snapshotting system... message appeared. At that
point I had the slow-blinking (slow as in takes one minute for one blink)
cursor, and I pressed some keys to speed things up. This made the next message
appear (something like s2disk: snapshot ready...), and suspend proceeded as
normal. I haven't rebooted (yet) to test whether this was a one-time behaviour,
or that booting with hpet=disabled makes the wait occur on suspend instead of
resume.

I also did s2ram a few times, which had problems as well, but on resume. I did
not notice anything that I hadn't noticed without hpet=disabled before. By now,
however, I am sure that the wait on resume-from-ram can only be shortened by
pressing Fn-{some special thinkpad function key}-combo's, not the any-key.
Furthermore, in some cases (but this is difficult to reproduce), s2ram only
occurs after one more keypress, irrespective which key.

In sum: hpet=disabled did not cause major differences, except the wait
occurring at suspend instead of resume with s2disk. By the way, I also tried
with hpet=disabled nohz=off, and then everything is fine (couple of s2disk,
s2ram, no problems).

I'll try 2.6.24-rc7 next.
