Hi, Dieter
Will you please try the attached custom DSDT and see whether the remaing
problems still exists? It will be great if you can acpi.debug_layer=0x0100
acpi.debug_level=0x1f cpufreq.debug=7 and attach the output of dmesg.
powertop doesn't recognize any C-States anymore
   - wakeups go up from about 100 to about 500 /second, power
drainincreases by about 2-3W :-/

The attached custom DSDT only modifies the cpufreq definition in _PSS
package.

With kernel 2.6.24 (from kernel.org) the PC still doesn't turn off by itself,
but now it does respond to pressing (briefly) the power button.

you think it would help to write a mail directly to Acer in Taiwan? (i wrote to

Powertop still shows no C-states, in console mode, it stays @ 60-120 wakeups,
but sometimes spikes to 300-700, where interrupt: acpi creates the biggest
load, maybe a result from the debug statements? i'll retry with a non debug
kernel later today

[Bug 10056] New: PC becomes slow after processor ACPI module is loaded

2008-02-20 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10056

Summary: PC becomes slow after processor ACPI module is loaded
   Product: ACPI
   Version: 2.5
 KernelVersion: 2.6.25-rc2
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: Power-Processor
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Latest working kernel version: unknown
Earliest failing kernel version: 2.6.22 (?)
Distribution: Debian Sarge / Etch
Hardware Environment: 2 x Pentium-II @ 400MHz, Compaq AP400
Software Environment: ---
Problem Description: As long as the processor ACPI module is loaded, the system
becomes very slow, even slower than if only one CPU were running. If the driver
is built in, the system is slow from the moment the module is initialized. See
http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0802.0/0729.html

Steps to reproduce: modprobe the module

[Bug 9945] No AC-adapter-specific events + no events when opening lid

2008-02-20 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9945

--- Comment #8 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-02-20 16:19 ---
In order to answer your questions accurately and order the information I had
provided thus far, I decided to compile 2.6.23, 2.6.24 and 2.6.25-rc2 and try
them both with and without acpi_apic_instance=2.

The AC events aren't generated on any of the listed kernels. Instead a
combinations of battery and processor events are generated. Also the lid events
always occur merely when closing the lid (no event at all when opening the
lid).

Powering off (halting), CPU frequency scaling, disk/RAM hibernation doesn't
work in the most recent version, although all of these did work in 2.6.23 and
2.6.24. However, the RAM hibernation worked only partially (the machine awakes
but the display remains off).

As for the Fn keys, they actually are handled ok in 2.6.25-rc2 (I can receive
ACPI events for them).

I attached a ZIP with outputs from acpidump and dmesg for 2.6.23, 2.6.24 and
2.6.25-rc2 (and different acpi_apic_instance setting for each of these - the
digit at the end of the filename indicates the acpi_apic_instance setting
used).

I'm not sure if I should post new separate reports for some of the mentioned
problems, so I'd appreciate if somebody could advise me on this :)

Earliest failing kernel version: 2.6.22 (?)

So this fails on all (ACPI enabled) versions of Linux tested?

Hi, Dawid
Will you please set CONFIG_PM_TRACE , CONFIG_PM_TRACE_RTC in kernel
configuration and do the following tests? (The system should be booted without
dock).
a. boot the system with the option of initcall_debug acpi_sleep=s3_bios
a. echo 1 /sys/power/pm_trace
b. echo mem /sys/power/state
c. press the power button and see whether the system can be resumed. If the
system can't be resumed, please restart the system with the option of
initcall_debug and attach the output of dmesg.
   Thanks.

Hi, Black
Please try the debug patch on the 2.6.24.2 kernel and see whether the
keystrobe problem still exists. ( Of course the patch in bug9110 is needed).
   Thanks.

Hi, Waldemar
Will you try the debug patch in comment #28 of bug 9642 and do the
following tests? ( It is noted that the ACPI debug function should be enabled).
   a. echo 0x02290004 /sys/module/acpi/parameters/debug_layer echo
0x0817 /sys/module/acpi/parameters/debug_level
   b. kill the process who is using the /proc/acpi/event ( the process can be
obtained by using lsof /proc/acpi/event ).
   c. cat /proc/acpi/event event_log ( Not press Ctrl+C until the following
is done).
   d. unplug and AC adapter twice; Close and reopen lid twice.

After it is finished, please attach the output of event_log and dmesg.
   Thanks.
