License problem
Hello everybody, I have one question i enter my ID IBM and Password for my passport advantage and after i don't find where to download tsm 6.3.4 (with the license module) i have installed a tsm 6.3.4 from the FTP Ibm but i don't have the license module. So where are the download file for the TSM 6.3.4 installation or just for the TSM 6.3.4 License module. Re: License problem
Hi, You need to download the full version package with the license. When that is download can you install only the license package and registrar it in TSM. But you can download 6.3 or 6.3.4. Hi, That's why I added product part number to you so you can search on does instead to easier find your software. Because on the front page when you login you can see Software Download Media Access. If you can't see the Software Download on the front page, talk to your IBM rep and see why you don't have access anymore. /Christian -Original Message- From: mik [mailto:tsm-fo...@backupcentral.com] Sent: den 23 januari 2014 14:11 To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: License problem Hi Christian Svensson and thanks for reply, I know what i do download but after enter my IBM passport i don't find where his the download. Re: TSM 7.1
Hi all, I've done an upgrade yesterday on a test environment from 6.3.4 to 7.1 (AIX 7.1 TL2). Had to struggle a bit with the install.sh script because the graphical version didn't work (and didn't bother to investigate it further) so switched to the console mode. The latter was a bit confusing the first time and had to restart it twice because some file systems (/tmp, /var and /opt) hadn't enough free space. Don't understand why 2 GB is required in /tmp, would have been nice if you could provide another temporary location with enough space. But one hour later I was up and running in the test environment with TSM 7.1, the database is rather small (3 GB). Did the upgrade mainly to test the new features of the operations center, but then the spoke servers also need to be on 7.1 to use all of them. And to see if any new bugs or (un)documented new features show up. The new database version DB2 10.5 is significantly better than 9.7 (which is good too for the record), so let's hope TSM benefits from this too. I will wait for 7.1.1 also prior to upgrading the other TSM servers. Regards, Kurt -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] Namens Sergio O. I haven't applied the .300 fixpack yet, but will do so soon. I'm waiting for 7.1.1 because of this APAR: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1IC97618 It says in there that that APAR is not fixed in 7.1.0 (only at 7.1.1). I have worked a bit on the 7.1.0 TSM for VE, but the installer was difficult to work with in our environment. Finally got it working, but only after stopping the installer after it said something had failed (don't know what, the logging is atrocious). I also had issues configuring it, but it looks like a lot of it had to do with underlying permission issues. Thanks! Re: TSM 7.1
There have been numerous questions and posts regarding the 10x improvements with TSM data deduplication seen when upgrading to TSM V7.1. IBM would like to explain this statement further. The up to 10x improvement was based on a comparison of prior published maximum daily dedup capability for a single server (e.g. 3TB daily) versus the new published maximum daily dedup capability (e.g. 30TB). In this context, dedup capability includes ingest of client data on the server and deduplication of that data. In addition, it includes the post-processing of creating a second copy of the data, reclamation, and expiration/deref. The baseline was V6.2 and was published in the original Effective Planning and Use of IBM TSM Dedup Whitepaper in August 2012. The baseline encompassed all daily ingest and deduplication processing plus creation of a second copy using storage pool backup. The new compare which achieved the up to 10x improvement over the original 3TB occurred against V6.3.4.200 and was calculated using client side dedup with optimized hardware (e.g. SSD) and improved server code in several paths (reclamation and expiration among others). The maximum daily server side deduplication capability was improved to 20TB through a combination of the optimized code paths and different overlapping of some server processes during the 24 hour workload. In both the 20TB and 30TB cases, the storage pool backup was replaced with node replication to achieve the second copy. In IBM labs, we saw improvements on pre-existing test configurations with code changes alone, although not 10x. The combination of improved hardware, code updates, and the transition to node replication combined with client side deduplication, created the ability to achieve 30TB. The 10x improvement comes from the compare of the 3TB original published daily ingest recommendation versus the updated 30TB published daily ingest recommendation. The Effective Planning and Use of IBM TSM Dedup Whitepaper has now been updated to reflect the 20TB and 30TB numbers providing guidance on the hardware and configuration best practices required to achieve a 20TB or 30TB daily ingest. A specific TSM server configuration may see a smaller or no improvement if the workload exceeds hardware capabilities. Most customers will see some performance improvement and some customers are reporting significant improvement over prior levels. In addition, TSM 7.1 provides other code improvements that can benefit deduplication and node replication performance beyond what was initially provided in TSM 6.3.4.200. This includes further optimization to the expire/deref processing, improved deduplication handling of large objects via the SPLITLARGEOBJECTS node setting, and improvements to the identification of candidates for node replication which can improve the overall processing time for node replication. To achieve the best results when using TSM deduplication, we recommend 7.1 or 6.3.4.300. These levels contain an additional update to expire/deref processing documented by APAR IC97618 which benefits some customers. TSM/VE and SRM Replication
Has anyone using TSM/VE backups as well as VMware SRM for replication had any conflicts with snapshots between the 2 products? We've had several instances where VM's have issued an alert about Virtual Machine consolidation needed. And just last night we had one of our file server VM's have snapshots with invalid parents and the VM was totally unresponsive. These events seem to occur when the TSM/VE backup completes and the snapshot is deleted. We are at VMware 5.5. Bill Boyer DSS, Inc. (610) 927-4407 Enjoy life. It has an expiration date. - ??
Re: Re: moving to new copy storage pool
Updated the device class to refer to the second library? The pools would remain associated with the device class, the (new|moved) drives would be defined to the new library, and the tapes would be checked out of the old library and checked into the new one (with the device class change in between). This would work, but it would also change the library for the primary pool since they used the same device class which would complicate the migrations, especially if the libraries are in different locations. Ideally you would have every pool use a unique device class. You can have multiple device classes point to the same library. Hi Dude! Yes, I have seen that happen (although in my case it was another product not VMware SRM) . It doesn't matter what product it is - if there is *anything* else in the environment that is doing VM snapshots - including humans, you have to set up your schedules so they don't conflict. Else sooner or later this will happen. -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Bill Boyer Sent: Thursday, January 23, 2014 10:39 AM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: [ADSM-L] TSM/VE and SRM Replication Has anyone using TSM/VE backups as well as VMware SRM for replication had any conflicts with snapshots between the 2 products? Re: TSM/VE and SRM Replication
This warning is a new feature of vSphere 5.x -- prior to 5, you would not get any alert about consolidation being needed. It's possible this was happening before and you just didn't know it...? http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_UScmd=displayKCexternalId=2003638 Did your site recently upgrade to 5.5? Personally, I didn't see these at 5.0 and now at 5.1 see these messages infrequently -- my current theory (at least for my site) is that this happens when an image/snapshot backup job is disturbed somehow, for example by a momentary interruption of network traffic. For IBM: Last Solaris x86 client/patch is actually for SPARC
Please pass on to whomever would take care of this... In this folder: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com//storage/tivoli-storage-management/patches/client/v6r2/Solaris/x86/v625 The files in there are for SPARC, not x86.
