Yeah, it can be done... but you have to change a setting through SSH, to
make it act like a normal AP.
I don't remember exactly what needs to be changed off hand, but I have a
couple of new ones that I need to configure anyway, so I'll try to find my
notes tomorrow.

I'm replacing some old Ruckus AP's with E400's, the Ruckus APs had a

something similar exist for the E400's? A quick Google search turned

Hey all,

Has anyone used the Uinstaller on Cambium SM's etc? I see that it has a
DHCP server built into it. Any way to disable that so I can access the
169.254.1.1 default IP's of Cambium radios?
I tried setting my phones IP to 169.254.1.2, but I can't reach the radio...

Re: [AFMUG] 900mhz stingers still available?

2019-04-29 Thread Mathew Howard
Lanbowan was one. they had a nice, I think 12dbi that was roughly 12". I
don't remember who the other company was off hand.
I think the Itelites would be kind of a pain to use with a 450SM, and if I
remember correctly, they're only 10dbi. But at any rate, I don't really
have a need for them anymore.

Yeah, I really doubt there's enough of a market for 900mhz stuff these

 900mhz dual polarity panels though.

Why not have a small lease on property with telephone pole and screw

Also, as new products change the landscape and customer with lease wants
to upgrade then sure... tack on the extra mmrc and now

he pays you to be there :)

My customers would have all got satellite within a 4 day period LOL :)

Does anyone have an example of an agreement/contract you have with customers

that host micropops on their houses? Something along the lines of like

"please don't unplug our stuff."

We had some issues with the original 1Gbps units - which they did replace
for free, and as I understand it, the 1 gig radios have since been
redesigned, but we've had two of the 2.5Gbps links up for close to two
years with no real problems. The Mikrotik 60ghz radios seem to work pretty
well too.

[AFMUG] 500 foot shot

2019-04-29 Thread SmarterBroadband
We need to put up a 100Meg link for our county. Possible they may
eventually need 500Meg. Is the IgniteNet 60Ghz solid and ready for prime
time? I would use AF24 but this link is about 4 degrees off an existing
AF24 link!!! Could use Siklu but don't see using it anywhere else so would
need to hold a spare. However if IgniteNet worked well I could see other
uses. Other thoughts?

Thanks

How many units would you need to sell to be worth it? 1k? 10k? Could always
just throw that number out there and see how much interest there is in buying
that many.

Chuck, would it be worth it to you to make dual-slant 900mhz stingers for the
900 450 platform? May be better to use rpsma connectors on them instead of N to
reduce torsion, and you may need to supply cables with them.

Yeah, I really doubt there's enough of a market for 900mhz stuff these days
to be worth it. It is kind of a shame that there's no good option for
900mhz dual polarity panels though.

Has anyone used the “Chinese finger trap” style support grips for vertical runs
of outdoor Cat5 cable in conduit?

I need to support 8 – 10 cables in a 150 ft straight run of 2 inch conduit,
there is a pull box with a support hook at the top of this run, then another
~30 feet of conduit to a box at the top where the individual cables would go
through glands and out to the radios.

I did a test with a grip for 0.85 to 1.00 inch cable diameter, and a cable
bundle that measured maybe 0.75 to 0.85 inches, and it’s very, very difficult
to pass the bundle through the grip. I can’t see sliding 50 feet of cable
through it. Even just a foot or two was a challenge. Yet I’m reluctant to
just use a larger grip, for fear it won’t grip properly.

Is there a trick to using these things?

Does anyone have an example of an agreement/contract you have with customers
that host micropops on their houses? Something along the lines of like
"please don't unplug our stuff."

I am sure they are simple to use, but I did not see any documentation on how to
do the lacing.

We just purchased these lace-up grips so we do not have to slide them down the
drop. Not used them yet.

Has anyone used the “Chinese finger trap” style support grips for vertical runs

Have customers asking too.

What is everyone using? Amazon cloud cameras look appealing but I see
no way to share camera access with other users for certain cameras
without sharing them all.

The Nest cams seem to use less bandwidth, around 200 kbps per cam although I
think you can change the video resolution setting, but they typically stream to
the cloud DVR constantly. And since they get put inside, rather than just at
the front door, people tend to install a bunch of them, 5 is not uncommon, so
even at 200 kbps per cam now you have 1 Mbps upstream.

The WiFi problem seems to be common to all these WiFi cameras. I need to hire
someone to explain the "sticking cheap little WiFi things with poor antennas
everywhere and expecting them to work automagically" problem to customers
because I'm losing patience and fear I will start biting heads off. I notice
that customers who actually hire a security camera company seem to end up with
wired cameras. Although ADT seems to install WiFi cameras. So all burglars
need to do is bring a WiFi jammer? Maybe it comes down to security cameras
bill for parts and labor while ADT has a fixed price and wants to minimize
their labor? More likely the local security camera guy is used to setting up
businesses and takes a more robust approach. I wonder when the police get the
security camera footage from businesses near a crime, how many are "in the
cloud" over the Internet or on someone's cellphone, and how many are stored
locally? Given that stores, banks, warehouses, etc. may have dozens of
cameras, I would think local storage starts to be more logical than streaming
it all to cloud storage? Or maybe they don't want thieves to steal the hard
drive from the security system? I would hope that's in a locked room.

They only use the bandwidth when they are motion triggered which was a
large part when I am using them. The majority of the issues we see
with people are because it is placed outside of a good wifi signal.
