Re: [AFMUG] New server SSD vs HDD

2019-01-24 Thread Tim Alexander
You probably want to look at some of the intel high write endurance
SSD's if you're concerned about writes.

For example the intel S4610is rated at 6 PBW (6,000 TB) or roughly 3 DWPD.

Intel P series or optane based products have far higher endurance but
cost is a lot higher.

The only issue with SSDs is the write endurance, and most of them now
have a certain percentage of spare cells to stave that off for a
while. They generally won't go toes up all at once, but will lose
cells, or blocks of cells at some point. You will get more endurance
if you oversize them to minimize cell re-use. If you think you need
1TB, get 2TB, and it will cut cell re-use by 50%.

Way, way faster.

Any reason not to go with the SSD?

Re: [AFMUG] Mikrotik LTE antennas

Dennis: The issue we ran into was Verizon not certifying these devices
since they don't support all the VZW bands so wouldn't be allowed to be
used on their network. What vendor are you using for LTE? (AT&T?
T-Mobile? VZW and just giving them another IMEI of a compatible device?)

Anyone tried the Mikrotik LTE stuff?

I dunno why but they look so cool I was thinking of installing one at
home as a redundant connection :)

Re: [AFMUG] IgniteNet MetroLinq 2.5G 60 PTP, anyone using them? Having odd issues

2018-08-09 Thread Tim Alexander

Hi All,

Thanks, I think I've narrowed it down to a bad copper ethernet port on a
new unit. Putting in an SFP causes traffic to pass fine. (Swapped the
POE/cables to verify, same behavior on the slave side). Support folks
seem to think may still be software related but worth knowing if you
encounter the same issue on your equipment ever. Symptoms were RF link
working/management working, lan showing good link but no data passing.

IgniteNet support has had the ticket for 8 days without any

actually function in the lab/field yet?
