Re: [AFMUG] ePMP 3000 backwards compatibility

2019-05-21 Thread SmarterBroadband
I reached out to Cambium. I asked about 4.3.2 on all combinations. They
replied;

with the exception of F200 to 1000 or 2000 AP – you will not have QoS. For
F200 to 1000 or 2000 you will have QoS. Here are some comments I received from
our engineer:

Force 300 to 1000 or 2000 AP - No QOS

Force 200 to 1000 or 2000 AP - QOS is available in 4.3.X. Please use 4.3.2.1,
as 4.3.2 had some issue.

4.3.2.1 release is targeted for ePMP3000, backwards/forwards compatible mode,
pure ePMP1000/2000 legacy networks and PTP 550. Please note that MIR & QOS is
not supported on ePMP3000 & backwards/forward mode.

Thus, on 4.3.X, QOS is only supported for pure n network.

Date for QoS for 3K to F300 ( and forward and backward) QoS not confirmed yet.

It's been promoted to the current branch as "ePMP System Release 4.3.2.1 /
15-May-19" - no longer in the beta branch.

ePMP-GPS_Synced-v4.3.2.1.tar.gz, ePMP-NonGPS_Synced-v4.3.2.1.tar.gz is the
firmware for the EPMP1000/2000 radios, that will allow EPMP AC units to connect
to EPMP1000/2000 APs. (forward compatibility)

For the EPMP3000 AP ePMP-AC-v4.3.2.1.img allows backwards compatibility
(clients must be running the matching firmware above to connect to a 3K AP)

All EPMP1k/2k use .tar.gz for the packaging, all EPMP3k will use .IMG

For the time being, no QOS/MIR exists in this firmware, so if you consider that
not production ready like me, I see what your saying.

The descriptions don't make this very clear.

Stable release of this was a few weeks ago. Download the 2nd stable version
released 2 days ago and it will work.

Correct on being able to swap out a 1/2k AP for a 3k and all existing epmp
radios as well as elevate sm's will connect. They need to be updated to latest
version first though or they won't connect.

Upgrading only the AP without any sm's yields a 10% boost in throughput as well
as some other rf gains of at least 3db on the uplink. Latency also is improved
by 50%. This is all without swapping a single sm.

To realize mu-mimo benefits, I'd only swap your highest usage customers so you
can start realizing the 100% increase in capacity. That's our plan at least. No
point in swapping low GB usage

Qos/Mir is missing in 4.3.x firmware for all radios so if you need that,
wait until they release a version with it included probably in 4 weeks or
so.

Not if you're swapping to an ePMP 3000L... granted you're not going to get the
same improvement (it's a 2x2 radio rather than 4x4, so no 3db uplink gain, for
example), but it should still be somewhat of an improvement, and it'll let any
AC SMs run at 256QAM.

Are you saying Force 200 to a 2000AP both on latest firmware will lose QOS?

Not if you're swapping to an ePMP 3000L... granted you're not going to get the

Re: [AFMUG] ePMP 3000 backwards compatibility

2019-05-17 Thread Joe Novak
It's been promoted to the current branch as "ePMP System Release 4.3.2.1 /
15-May-19" - no longer in the beta branch.

ePMP-GPS_Synced-v4.3.2.1.tar.gz, ePMP-NonGPS_Synced-v4.3.2.1.tar.gz is the
firmware for the EPMP1000/2000 radios, that will allow EPMP AC units to
connect to EPMP1000/2000 APs.

For the time being, no QOS/MIR exists in this firmware, so if you consider
that not production ready like me, I see what your saying.

The descriptions don't make this very clear.

Re: [AFMUG] ePMP 3000 backwards compatibility

2019-05-17 Thread Andy Trimmell
Stable? You mean stable beta? I meant production firmware if that’s what you
meant. I don’t see anywhere in production firmware that there’s a 4.x firmware
for 1000/2000 models.

No
point in swapping low GB usage subs to force 300 gear if they won't see any
benefit.

I haven't been following any of the 3000 Hype. Can you drop an EPMP3000
AP in place of an EPMP1000AP and not have to change any customer
radios? Do you get any benefits without the Force300 SM?
