Re: [AFMUG] PMP450 5ghz AP possible case water intrusion
I have had a lot of them fail for this issue, Cambium was initially repairing/replacing old 450AP's even ones that were out of warranty until they realized how many I had. Then they started to say that basically since it was out of warranty they weren't going to do anything anymore. I have an email from Matt basically admitting that these units are going to fail in the 4-5 year marks due to design flaw. He basically told me to drill some holes in the bottom of the case for the water to escape if it got in. I was so pissed at his response that I didn't even bother email him back. These units were spec'ed at 40 year MTBF ratings and to admit that basically after 5 years they were going to fail really got me upset especially when I have junk Tranzeo's still out in service that are 10+ years old running flawlessly. We have seen a number of them. Usually where the gortex vent cloth wasn’t centered in the hole, or the retaining ring wasn’t fully staked in. I usually plug the vent with mastic and leave out the plug in the timing port grommet. yes, we've had a few.. roland > I'm investigating a PMP450 5ghz AP (old unit - the original ones that came with the FSK port) that failed on the tower. RJ45 and especially RJ12 ports have white dots on the pins. Looking in the case, there seems to be evidence of water intrusion coming from the little temperature/humidity control membrane-covered hole in back. But a quick test of dripping water on the case does not cause water intrusion in that hole. Has anyone else seen such issues with older PMP450 APs? <
Re: [AFMUG] PMP450 5ghz AP possible case water intrusion
I've seen some that most certainly let water in through the gore vent. One such instance was rain blowing sideways for 20 minutes in a bad storm. That probably occurred because the radio was a little over 2 years old and the coating on the gore patch thing was gone. Basically just some mesh stuff left. At least it kept the bugs out. And others with covers that apparently weren't sealing right from the factory. Bad machining I think on those. Another where a stud wasn't inserted into the cover all the way. I took it apart and let it dry out and pushed the stud in carefully with a C clamp on the bench. Other than that, if it's not obvious how water got into a particular radio, then I don't know. [AFMUG] PMP450 5ghz AP possible case water intrusion
I'm investigating a PMP450 5ghz AP (old unit - the original ones that came with the FSK port) that failed on the tower.
