Re: hoe do I use spectacle screen recording?
I think you want to install simplescreenrecorder. I've never knew spectacle to be able to do that. Re: Recommended way of installing system-wide python application and libraries
Hello, I guess you plan on maintaining it yourself. You should do an "Intention to package" bug, you do that running: reportbug wnpp There is a tool called "lintian" that you will probably find useful to check your packaging, as you get it into shape. I'd recommend the debian-mentors IRC channel on oftc and the same named mailing list. Bug#1052028: please update to pydantic 2.x
Wouldn't it be better to package it as python3-pydantic2 directly? To avoid breaking every software that uses it. In that way they could just coexist and packages depending on the old one wouldn't all suddenly break. No the libinput one is bad. libinput's author doesn't want options, so there is no way to have usable input that feels good on thinkpads. I'm using the xserver-xorg-input-evdev one. I guess when Xorg will be kicked out of debian, I will need to move to devuan or something like that, just to avoid libinput's opinions on how my input should work. For those having lost a leg (such as myself, just to name one) because of some careless driver, reading "I went for a run" could be painful. Bug#1023124: How i fixed my system
For anyone finding this after the fact. I had to remove dpkg-fsys-usrunmess. Use aptitude because apt's crap resolver won't do it. aptitude --allow-remove-essential install usrmerge aptitude remove dpkg-fsys-usrunmess Then I manually (with a script) had to delete a bunch of duplicated files, because I had older files in /lib and newer ones in /usr/lib. This is the script, don't run it blindly while /usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge 2>&1 | grep Both | cut -d\ -fusrmerge; do /usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge 2>&1 | grep Both | cut -d\ -f 4 rm $(/usr/lib/usrmerge /convert-usrmerge 2>&1 | grep Both | cut -d\ -f 4) done After this, I could run again aptitude install usrmerge After this, the system seems in an upgradable state again. -- Salvo Tomaselli "Io non mi sento obbligato a credere che lo stesso Dio che ci ha dotato di senso, ragione ed intelletto intendesse che noi ne facessimo a meno." -- Galileo Galilei https://ltworf.github.io/

Not only they are lost users; but they will spend the next 20 or 30 years commenting how debian is broken (regardless of what the current status might be at that point) putting off potential users that might actually believe them. I still regularly see comments on how KDE is bad because it relies on non-free qt libraries. -- Salvo Tomaselli "Io non mi sento obbligato a credere che lo stesso Dio che ci ha dotato di senso, ragione ed intelletto intendesse che noi ne facessimo a meno." -- Galileo Galilei http://ltworf.github.io/ltworf/

Feel free to close, The issue I had on the newer machine was an hardware issue that got solved by replacing the keyboard. Something was wrong with the electronic there and I think it was confusing the whole bus so also the touchpad, despite being a different device was affected. Sorry, I had forgotten about this. My advice is to forget this. Upstream is really uncooperative and Torvalds went to conferences to talk about this (conveniently forgetting to mention he was depending an unstable library whose author said "Don't use this yet") The video of that conference that happened ages ago is still shared today to "prove" how the distribution model is bad, distro maintainers are mean, and so on. Just my advice. Il giorno dom 22 mag 2022 alle ore 13:58 David Bremner ha scritto: > > Philippe Cerfon writes: > > > btw... Re: General resolution: Condemn Russian invasion of the Ukraine

I have a feeling that it's somewhat hypocritical to ask Russians to go in the streets and protest their government risking their lives while sitting in the comfort of your home in Germany, warmed up with russian gas and coal. Condemning an invasion is one thing, but asking others to risk their lives for the sake of your principles is a very different thing. -- Salvo Tomaselli "Io non mi sento obbligato a credere che lo stesso Dio che ci ha dotato di senso, ragione ed intelletto intendesse che noi ne facessimo a meno." -- Galileo Galilei http://ltworf.github.io/ltworf/

Bug#998767: the debhelper works
The debhelper works, I'm getting ready to use it in my typedload package, to install a -doc package as well. Some lintian warnings are generated about the over abundance of sitemap files. Anyway my bug was more because I'd like the generated (and then uploaded) website to not link externally to begin with, but be self contained. That's an upstream issue. But I guess as a workaround I can upload the content of the -doc package instead, to make sure that nothing is loaded from other domains. -- Salvo Tomaselli "Io non mi sento obbligato a credere che lo stesso Dio che ci ha dotato di senso, ragione ed intelletto intendesse che noi ne facessimo a meno." -- Galileo Galilei http://ltworf.github.io/ltworf/

Re: opinion on Choice 1
People are free to express their opinion. That does not mean the Debian Project is obligated to provide a platform for those opinions on the debian-vote mailing list, which exists to facilitate discussions among voting members of the Debian Project regarding matters that will be voted on. Non-voting posters to debian-vote are almost exclusively outside agitators and there's no reason subscribing to debian-vote should mean receiving their bullshit in our mailboxes. I only posted because a debian mailing list was used to reach me about the issue and it contained incorrect statements that I corrected. If no GR had been made, I wouldn't have received anything via debian mailing lists and I would have not replied via debian mailing lists. If you don't want people to reply, just don't email them. Best
Re: Amendment to RMS/FSF GR: Option 5
> I sincerely think debian-vote should be read-only for non-DDs because this person is not a DD (afaict) and is just polluting our list with such non-sense. There are non-DD people who maintain more packages and with higher total popcon than DDs, but aren't DD because didn't bother to jump through all the several hoops to become a DD. If you do not want DMs, make a proposal and vote to kick all the DMs out from Debian. If it passes then be ready to adopt a few hundreds of packages or see debian crash and burn. Best
Re: Cancel "culture" is a threat to Debian
Well, I'm still trying to hear users voice. For me, it seems they may disagree with you. We could make a press release with an opinion poll attached… rather than pushing for a press release that wrongly implies that every debian contributor thinks the same way and agrees. Except that of course, if the poll gets the "wrong" result, then it will be because of bots and election scams (reminds you of anyone?). Certainly posting on debian-vote will not give many opinions from people who are using debian but are not involved in its creation. I have privately received emails from debian contributors who agreed with my email about how being pro-choice (in the context of abortion) somehow got twisted into being "ableist". I believe the best course of action would be to make no statement and let single contributors speak their mind if they want to; no official Debian opinion. I personally would not like to be co-opted and have someone other than myself state my opinion. Best.
Re: Statement regarding Richard Stallman's readmission to the FSF board
I'm asking both of you, and everyone else for that matter, to keep this off of debian-devel. We're freezing for release, this is debian-devel, not twitter, if you have disagreements to figure out, please do it elsewhere. This makes sense, but unfortunately the email on debian-announce went out, so now it is too late for this.
Re: General Resolution: Richard Stallman's readmission to the FSF board
Hi, I'm a disabled person and I think that calling rms an "ableist" for what he wrote about prenatal diagnosis is incorrect. It shows that the author of the letter knows NOTHING about what goes on in groups for civil liberties of disabled people and their families. In my country, Italy, it is the religious bigots who do not want prenatal diagnosis, because it might led to abortion, and they are against that. Catholics also see any suffering and pain as "good", as a way to elevate the soul towards God. So, in short, in the letter, rms is being accused for his pro-choice views. In the haste to label him with whatever "woke" insult, the writers and signers of the letter ended up siding with the camp that wants to deny women's rights. Many years ago, I read a letter from the father of a mentally disabled person that was described as a 2 year old inside the body of a 40 year old. The parent said that he loved his son very much but he couldn't help to wonder what would happen to him after he died. Would he be taken care of? Would he be abused? So he was expressing his ideas that perhaps prenatal diagnosis can be good. Not because he didn't love his son but because he could not defend himself from the world after he had died. It is of course a tragic thought and honestly I believe that while abortion must be a right, it is always a sad event. I believe that most abortions should not happen, because they happen either because the mother can't support a child or she is too young to do so, and in both cases that means that improvements to welfare and education are much needed. But still, it is a right that must not be denied. Honestly I do not believe it is my place to morally judge if an abortion was performed for a good enough reason, and I believe it is not the place of anyone to place this moral judgment onto others. rms has expressed his controversial opinion about a small part of this vast topic, and this is now being used against him by opportunists who want to replace him. To be honest, I believe that the position on abortion has absolutely nothing to do with debian and free software in general, and people from both opinions should be welcome to partecipate. To conclude, I must say that as a disabled person I'm getting a bit tired of people who self-diagnose themselves a mental illness and call "ableist" anyone they disagree with on social media. I think it is insulting towards real disabled people and it diminishes the struggle and makes the term "disabled" meaningless. I don't know if this is what's happening here, but it is a trend that I've noticed in general. Bug#962646: cligh: Abandoned from upstream

If you think about it, even if you connect with ssh and use vim or whatever remotely, the content of the files are reaching your screen, so are being distributed anyway. Bug#930949: firefox: Firefox .desktop file should not be absolute
Package: firefox Version: 67.0.4-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I use firejail. Because firefox.desktop points directly to the binary, rather than just calling firefox from the path, I can't symlink firefox to firejail in /usr/local/bin like I do for everything else, because it won't work if I open it from a menu. It would be nice to fix the .desktop file to just execute "firefox %u" instead so that people who use firejail can use it without having to fix the .desktop file after every upgrade. Bug#930928: mypy: New upstream release
Hello, I understand, but at this stage, with release almost there, uploading to unstable would not be so bad I guess. Anyway my problem is that localslackirc uses github and there it pulls mypy from pip (so latest version) but in debian of course it builds with the package, so having the mismatch is making development a bit difficult for me, because the build fails on github but works on my local machine, so adding a "ignore" comment would make it fail on my machine and pass on github :D Anyway, I guess I can wait some more weeks.
