This defect is found in version 000300m15, which wasn't a choice on your drop 
down menu.

I submitted an issue this summer with version 2.4.?.  I created tables within 
tables in Writer, and saved the file in Word.  When I closed, then reopened the 
Word file, the formatting of the tables was gone.

I have just upgrades to OOo 3.0.1.  The tables within tables now work!  Yeah!  

However, the bottoms of the table boxes are all bunched up.  When I try 
to "Adjust table row" by dragging the lines lower, when I let go of the mouse 
button the cursor jumps to the very beginning of the document, three pages 
earlier, and the table line stays as it was.

I am attaching three files.  "My Proposal.odt", the original which is set up 
the way I want it, "My Proposal.doc", the one that loses the formatting, and 
which I submitted last summer, and "My Proposal 1.doc", the new one I just 
created that is almost right, but has the lines bunched at the bottom.

This is a HUGE improvement, and thank you for addressing the problem.  Can you 
tweak it a little more to get the bunching corrected?

When I save certain documents in which I've used bullet points, each time I 
reopen the file I must clean up the text of extra 'bullets' that are 
reintroduced at each reopening. I don't know whether these are 'created' each 
time I reopen, or whether they were created in a much earlier version, and 
are 'ghosts' that keep reappearing. 

The clean text is always saved, or 'saved as', but the extra bullets reappear 
with each opening. This problem has occurred in more than one file.

Over a year since a patch was produced, and this still hasn't been fixed?  I run
into this bug daily, since I started using OO.  The "other" sheet doesn't have
this problem, since I'm very used to copy and paste merged cells.

I suppose you could say I make horrible spreadsheets, but I commonly use small
blocks and merge cells to make larger blocks.  So pretty much every sheet I
have, I see this error whenever I try to copy a cell.  I must first select the
exact number of cells in the target area, then cut the target area, then select
the source area, then copy, then select the top left cell and paste.  This is a
serious drain on workflow, and when I forget to follow the procedure, it is also
a waste of time to start all over.

One question I have about the proposed patch.  If you drag the cells to make
duplicates, does it handle making the duplicates merged cells as well?  Meaning
if I have A1:A2 merged, and I grab the lower right corner of A2 and drag it down
3 cells, do I end up with the only expected behaviour?  Do I end up with B1:B2,
C1:C2, and D1:D2 merged and copies of the formula from A1:A2 present?

The patch is very simple.  BTW I too always thought it was weird not to default
to a new sheet.  For the majority of use cases I encounter, data pilot tables
are created on new sheet, while the current sheet contain large data table.  So,
this change makes sense to me.

I was obviously unclear about the issue. I don't care about the warning. What I 
care about is that when I 
*preview* or *print* the document that has the cropped image in it, the blue 
diamond and part of the 
enclosed map are *not* printed.  I'll attach PDFs generated from the Print 
dialog box of what I'm talking 
about.

Even in your analysis, you suggested that the map is completely inside the 
margins.  

As a secondary symptom, if I select "scale page to fit" instead of trim, the 
margin of printed document 
on the the actual piece of 8.5 x 11" paper is roughly 4cm (1.5"), nothing like 
the 1cm you see in the 
document.

Please use the whole sequence of actually previewing & printing the document, 
not just looking for the 
dialog box, to confirm the bug.  Thanks.

The Ruler Button could have three states: 
0. No ruler
1. Only horizontal ruler
2. Vertical and horizontal ruler

A number (0,1,2) on the ruler icon could indicate its state.
Do you think that this system too complicated on the usability side?

If there is a gifted graphic designer aroud here, maybe he could make a draft
for a show/hide ruler icon? (Crystal or/and Tango)

I have written a quite long article to explain why, in my opinion, it would be
important to have a button to show/hide the rulers in Writer. (And why the
rulers should be hidden by default, see issue #99284)

these days have a 1280x800 resolution. 1024x768 is by far the most used
resolution, and the the netbook market, with its very small vertical screen
sizes, is still growing.

4. Some other office suites already ship with their rulers hidden by default,
this includes the market leader Microsoft Office 2007, but also RedOffice 4.0
and KOffice 2.0.

5. Hiding the rulers by default and making a new hide/show ruler button would be
a huge improvement for OpenOffice.org, compared to the relatively small amount
of programming/development needed.



RedOffice 4.0 (based on OOo) already has a "Ruler Button". Microsoft Office 2007
has one, too.
Usability tests show that the ruler button is really easy to use. 
Its placement is precisely where a normal user would expect it to be: at the
exact "altitude" where the ruler are.

Would like a single label printer extension offering the functionality of the
Dymo LabelWriter software to AutoSize the FontSize to automatically fit text of
varying length onto a single small label.  i have tried getting users to simply
adjust the fontsize manually, but that is too much for them when all they
normally have to do is copy, paste, print.  The Dymo software takes care of
sizing to the label automatically, but has severe installation issues on Windows
and doesn't run on Linux.

I've noticed that when printing to my printer using swriter, it prints the last
page first (as I've told it) so they stack correctly on the printer. However,
when I print to pdf using the same settings, it does the same thing, only this
makes the first page of the pdf the last page of the document. Yes, I know I can
fix it by specifying each time I print to pdf, but I do it enough that it's
truly annoying. Can this be fixed? Pretty please?

Workaround - involves reinstallation via "setup.exe", with special command line
parms.

Worked for me with version 3.0.1. I had installed MS Word Viewer, and it
hijacked handling of .doc files on me. I was running OO (Novell) 2.4.1 and
needed to upgrade anyway.

My first install of OO 3.0.1 didn't reclaim .doc file handling so I (IIRC)
uninstalled it, then did the following procedure:

- Launch the downloaded installer (OOo_3.0.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe)
and it begins by asking where to unpack the files, choose your folder and
proceed with the unpacking until it's done.

- Now cancel the installer.

- go to the folder you unpacked into and drop to the command prompt and execute
this command:

setup.exe SELECT_WORD=1 SELECT_EXCEL=1 SELECT_POWERPOINT=1 
REGISTER_ALL_MSO_TYPES=1
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

(AIUI: the SELECT_WORD, etc parms work only for OO 2.4.x, and only
REGISTER_ALL_MSO_TYPES works for 3.0.x, but I put 'em all in just to be sure)

- Then just proceed with the install as normal.

Thx to OO developers for all your work, but removing control of file
associations at install time was, um, maybe not your best work  : )

There should be an option to extend background image or color over entire page,
not just within margins. It can be placed in Format > Page > Background tab as
"Over entire page" or "Fullpage" checkbox.


Currently there are two workarounds:

1) Set margins to 0 and then put text inside Frame or set appropriate spacing
for default paragraph style

2) Insert image from file and set Wrap to background. Then copy this image to
every page of a document.

The reason you describe is right. But for the example in my attachment, the
editfield should use LTR direction to layout bidi text in English UI. On windows
platform, OOo use uniscribe process bidi text, and the visual order in editfield
is consistent with the case in writer in default.

I put together a presentation in Impress, then saved it as Powerpoint.  Some of 
the text in the Impress version doesn't appear in the Powerpoint version.

I was trying to include references at the bottom of the slides for imformation 
given in the main part of the slides.  I included the references in a separate 
text box, and when that didn't work, tried including them in the main text box 
with a font size change and blank lines between the reference and the main 
text.  That didn't work either.

I noticed that the text is there, but not visible.  I can move the cursor over 
it, and I can hi-lite the text line, but the text is not visible.  If I then go 
to "text color" and change the color from automatic to black, it becomes 
visible.  But when I save it again, close the file and re-open it, it again is 
invisible.

I am attaching both the Impress and Powerpoint files.  The issue is with slides 
#2 - #7.

I work for a charity teaching basic IT skills to the over 65. So as not to force
our students to pay hefty Microsoft license fees we often install and teach them
how to use open office instead.

A popular topic is teaching them how to make a slid show presentation from there
pictures and email it to friends and family. We find that whilst they can email
there presentation in .ppt format, this can lead to much confusion for the
recipient if he/she in turn is not computer literate as .ppt only plays by
default on PCs that don’t have PowerPoint installed but do have PP viewer.
Ideally we would like to teach them to save as .pps before emailing as we do for
PowerPoint users.

Knowing when to save as .ppt and when to save as .pps proves confusing enough
for PowerPoint users to let alone add the level of complexity of teaching them
to uncheck the add extension option when saving, or to then change the file
extension within windows (keep in mind we prefer to leave known file extensions
hidden on there machines to prevent them from deleting the extension). Could
somebody provide me with information (or ideally a plug-in if one exists) on how
I could add an add option for saving as .pps within the save as window.

I know that technically .pps and .ppt files are not internally structured in
exactly the same way, presumably why OOo doesn’t come with an option for saving
as .pps, but for our needs it would suffice to recycle/clone the same code that
saves as .ppt but modify it to just bolt on the .pps extension. What I don’t
want to do is loose the functionality to save as .ppt. Alternatively, an option
for .pps within the export window would be an equally valid option.

I am moderately familiar with c++, but have never done GUI coding (only command
line apps), having said that I’m not afraid to try and write it myself if it’s
relatively trivial and people can point me in the rite direction.

Okay, some more tests results in a curiosity... seems to be 'estimated'
behaviour as desired by programmers for some reason, but I can't get the 
point...

It works for me with most input. I DOESN'T work for me with some mathematical
subjects: "minus", "plus", "wurzel", "pi", "gleich", "quadrat" (it's a German
language OOo!) - they're always kept in the case they were put the first time
into that column. Regardless of the type of the cell (text, 'standard', date,
value...)

May somebody please explain that behaviour?

Other 'words' work (like 'usa' <-> 'Usa' , 'Hilfe' <-> 'hilfe', 'work' <->
'Work', 'Dadada' <-> 'dadada' in the same column).

this issue deserves fixing because:
- it's annoying
- it's very old
- had many voted and duplicate issues

personally i had to record macros for each of the colors i use more often to 
fill cells in Calc and create a toolbar button for each macro.

this is my workaround... but Calc "fill" tool should be sticky as in Writer.

please change milestone to OOo 3.2

When the autoextension check box is checked, the extension should be removed
from the default file name, so that the file picker can append the correct
extension, according to the selected filter.

The tricky part of this issue is: If known extensions are hidden (in Windows
Explorer), the filename field of the file picker doesn't show the extension. But
the selected file is actually the document file (doc in the given example).

It happend again. (See the attached screenshot.)  

Maybe I can give now more Information about when this occures. 

I saved the document. takes < 1 second for saving the document (disc activity),
while processbar/Mouse=:Sandclock appear. 
AFTER this ca. > 5 seconds in which the application does not respond.
I think the error happend when I tried to interact "mouseclicking" with the
application during this period. 
Again, the document was recoverd at the next start of writer. Again, sending a
problem report was offered, 
but not sent, - i thin, because the error reporting tool does not start. 

BTW I did a complete re-install of 3.0.1 before. 
Im now going to "downgrade" to 3.0.0. because I can't risk loosing my work.

Try the following:
- create a new writer document
- enter 3 paragraphs, let's say
ABCDEFG
QWERTZ

- now insert a bookmark arround WERT in paragraph 2
- select from the start of the document to the Z of QWERTZ so you have a
selection surrounding the created bookmark plus the Z which is not part of the
bookmark
- press CTRL+C (or do any other thing you want to copy the selected range :-) )
- click to the end of the document and press CTRL+V (paste)
- now open the navigator (e.g. by pressing F5) and check the bookmarks
- you'll see, there is only bookmark "WERT", but no copy of it

If you select the paragraph-break after Z and try this again you'll see the
bookmark will be copied. If you select QWERTZ only and paste it, the bookmark is
also duplicated.
I found that the bookmarks in the last selected paragraph won't be copied.

The problem is also reproducable to using OOo-API using XTransferable.

If you create a query in Design like "Field" || 'Test' || "Filed2" 
or "Field" + "Filed2" an set an alias, the alias is bound to the query.

But if you change something in "Field" + "Filed2" like "Field" - 
"Filed2" or so after an alias name was set, the name is lost.

You get it first, if you run the query again, because it would be 
shown right in the alias row.

If you dont know what i mean, please open the attached database

-open Query "lose alias" to edit in Design View
-run the Query
=> notice that  is displayed as 
column header
- change something in the  row e.g. put one more Letter in
-run the query
=> notice that  isnt displayed 
anymore in the column header, but displayed in the  row.

Doing a character count without spaces is necessary for, among others,
translaters and certain other professionals. A friend of mine brought this to my
attention because she needs to submit an essay with strict requirements on the
number of characters without spaces. As far as I know the only way of doing
currently is by doing a search and replace, removing all spaces and then doing a
word / character count. It works but it's not pretty. Anyway it should be easy
to add.

Hi 

I'd a problem in communication between calc from OOO3x to OOO2x. When I open the
original ods-file, the formula keywords are translated in Englisch keywords with
a "of:" in front of the string.
To get a correct spreadsheet I found 2 ways:
Editing all formulas with "Search/Replace" to replace all keywords and take the
"of:" away. The second way is to "save as" sxc-format from version OOO1x to
create a transfer-file to OOO2x, then I can work with this spreadsheet in OOO2x
without any problem.
The work with this spreadsheet is possible without any problem.
I'm sorry that I can't send an attachment with the files.

I Agree that this works in 3.1.m1 when the Form is not open to Edit. So i'll
think it would be good as enhancemand for Editing for the future.
