I WANT to use OOo as my primary office suite, I want the double-click action to be to open with OOo whenever possible. I want to be able to install OOo and just have it work, and keep working. I used the REGISTER_ALL_MSO_TYPES command-line setup option (undocumented except in this bug and on the German Wiki, as far I can find) when I installed OOo and it was ok for a while, but MSO hijacked the file associations when downloading some update, and REGISTER_ALL_MSO_TYPES doesn't seem to be working for me now with either a Repair or Modify setup run. Some day I'll bite the bullet and uninstall OOo and then reinstall it again with REGISTER_ALL_MSO_TYPES, but that is NOT acceptable in the long term. It's pretty common for Windows apps to check whether their file associations are set and if not, ask if you want them to be. Couldn't we do that? Honestly, I get the impression that OOo doesn't want to be used as the default office suite. It's like it's saying "Oh, you've got Microsoft Office. Ok, I'll just go sit quietly in the corner here. You don't really want me." Come on, be more assertive! If someone installs OOo, they want to use it! The glyph is not allowed to extend outside the size of the line in order to avoid conflict between two lines. For the individual problem I showed in the attachment, the root cause is that fallback font is used to display the glyphs while original selected font is used to calculate the height of the clipping area. That could be proved by debugging. And it's also confirmed by a simple experiment. When selecting a right font for the Devanagari character, the chracters can be represented correctly. But when another font is selected, the problem occured. My proposal solution is to re-implement the calculation of height of line in consideration of fallback font. I think the best way is to calculate the width and height of line at the same time after calling OutputDevice::ImplLayout(...). That means merging OutputDevice::GetTextHeight with OutputDevice::GetTextWidth. It's highly unintuitive and frustrating when everything looks fine and then you close and re-open it later and your backgrounds are all messed up. The only workaround I was able to come up with was, for each master where I wanted a background image, to insert an image from file, resize the image to fill the entire slide, and then send it to the back z-index with Ctrl-- (minus). It took a while to convert all my masters, but at least this method works! (The workarounds described in http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=27162 didn't seem to work. I will state facts: 1) I use Openoffice for character sheets for gaming, work, and more. 2) I never close documents, I leave them open for weeks/months/years (never make it years.) 3) I never run out of disk space (laptop has 500 gb with 200+ gb free.) 4) I never save on a network share, local disk only. 5) I noticed the "temporary directory" in options is gone (/var/tmp/hu/huQhsjhf... and still fails if you alter the temp directory to be /var/tmp for instance.) 6) You can save in any document format other than ods or odt such as xls. 7) You can not save the document as the same name, as a different name, or on a different file system (such as a flash disk or external disk.) 8) You must have left the file open between weekly games and it rarely fails in 1 week but often fails after 2 weeks. 9) It does not depend on the file, as every document fails and all of them were created organically from scratch (no comment sheets and no comment document; in other words all documents that fail started as "create new document".) 10) I have found no work around for this problem in 5 years and all the work arounds I've seen for similar problems point to locking, disk full, and other non-issues. 11) Toggling "Save Autorecovery information" and "Use openoffice open/save dialogs" after the problem presents does not allow saving. 12) I never use macros and never have macros enabled, but I always have complex sheets with hundreds, possibly thousands of cells referencing other cells. Theorized assertions: 1) I suspect all files have at some point in their life have been through a recovery cycle due to laptop crash. 2) When the problem presents with one document, not all open documents will present the problem (in other words, I have notice that sometimes only 1 or 2 documents will fail while others that have failed in the past successfully save.) This is the sure fire way to reproduce: Open a new document. Past in a lot of text in different cells in different sheets over several weeks. Craft cells that reference other cells that reference many other cells. Modify several cells over several hours, then leave the document open for a week. The next good reason in changing this: As there is no means at all to assign Strg +Shift+Plus to this function, it will simply be inaccessible for notebook users the "usual" way. And please let me point out this little "glitch" again: as long as there is no differentiation in the shortcut assignment dialog, which clearly indicates that a certain key (numpad * vs normal *) is meant, this is really misleading and irritating. There certainly should be an option to assign both keys separately, but this would mean to rework the key binding dialog, thus, for the time being, it simply has to be asserted that if somebody chooses "*" or any other special character, he gets what he chooses. This should be IMHO no big deal to check the pressed shortcut key for it's analogon. Please feel free to change the subject and to forward this issue to someone in charge to solve this issue, but it is definitely an important matter. The same applies to the other "numpad only" shortcuts. The reverse procedure works accordingly. So, if we want to add a word at the end of the line, there's no other method, but to step through every single letter from the last word's beginning, till to its end, unless, we use this alternative procedure: - Down-arrow - Navigate to beginning of 1st word of the next line - Left-arrow (jumping to the last character of the line above) If the last word in a line, or the first one in the following line, is very long, it gets really uncomfortable. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
