Calc was working fine in OOo 3.1. First I though it was only Vista and big spreadsheets, but after upgrade to win 7 and a fresh start, it happened again with an empty spreadsheet! (I have also installed MS Office 2007.) First time I open a spreadsheet in OOo it works (usually). Second time (and this time I had only opened a excel spreadsheet first) the soffice.bin just eats up the memory. In some few minutes it has increased from 60MB to 1GB and that's about where it stops since I have 2GB memory and have Opera and Outlook running also in the background. Then if I try to save or close the program, it usually crash the whole openoffice and the crash report that OOo starts crashes too. So I have to restart windows to get OOo to run again. Basically this means I cannot use calc at all or I have not used it on my win 7 computer since OOo 3.2 because it crashes the computer every time. My home disc is on a network, I don't know if this has anything to say for how OOo handles storing of the files. If you can not decide what I should do, then I can not claim that I don't have time? Are you joking? I want to upstrem this bugfix. As I have already written, in this case I have nothing against integration of a solution, that is against specification, but is active only in case a special build argument is provided. Then that specification is complete crap and must be fixed when it doesn't work with standard mozilla plugin configuration (and that includes symlinks in let's say /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins). The specification for the Mozilla pugin activation is indeed a strange one. It does not pass even to OOo design. In OOo the decision, whether it is active or not should be taken during OOo installation I think. I have nothing against changing it in the way, that the plugin is activated during the installation. But that should be done for all platforms then. And I personally will not be able to do it in close future for the reason, you dislike so much: because I have not enough time for this task. If you would like to change it in the way, I have mentioned, even for the official build, please do it. But please do it consistently with specification change and for all platforms. If you have no resources for the complete solution, please integrate a solution, that is active only in your build. How should distro packages work? Just install the stuff in user dirs? Just create the symlinks for already existing users? Note that either of them is a taboo for packages. They must not fiddle with stuff in uesers' profile. I would expect, that a distro creates the link in the central Mozilla plugin directory.
