I get the same final printout from PowerPoint. That is, when I select (printer is adobe pdf) 6 Pages Per Sheet in layout and then 6 slides per handout page, I get a printout in which each page shows 36 slides. PowerPoint's print preview incorrectly shows 6 slides per page in this case, whereas Impress correctly shows 36, but the printouts from both programs are equivalent. Configuration: OOo m77 running on Windows 7 1. Create an 8-slide presentation 2. File | Print : Slides -- > see KanerImage1. We see 1 slide per page. Slides per page is grayed out because you can't change slides per page on this dialog. 3. You change the number of slides per page on the Page Layout dialog. Hit the Page Layout tab, change pages per sheet to 6. It shows 6 slides per page. See KanerImage2 4. Now go back to the General tab and you'll see 6 slides per page. See KanerImage3 5. Now let's switch to Handouts. Oops! we see a preview that shows two pages of handout and each page has 6 pages. See KanerImage4 6. But that's what we asked for. We asked for 6 slides per handout page on the General tab, and we asked for 6 slides per slide page on the Page Layout slide. So we get 6 x 6 slides on the handout page. Don't like that? Go back to Page layout and cut back to 1 slide per page (KanerImage5, then KanerImage6) 7. And if we want more slides per page on the handout, we can go back to General and switch from 6 slides per handout page to 9 and now (KanerImage7) we see 9 slides. As far as I can tell, this is working exactly as I would expect. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 100763] Ability to zoom or scroll around inside a presented slide
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=100763 --- Additional comments from vidya_o...@openoffice.org Sun Jun 6 05:41:43 + 2010 --- Garyturner, You have suggested an enhancement to the zoom feature of OOo3.0 presentation component. According to your post, it would make a slide presentation more natural and smooth, if we could select some portion of the slide (on which you want to focus attention), and then provide functionality to zoom in on that selected area. After a user opts to use this new zoom feature, that user would be offered a way to return to normal slide size and proceed with regular navigation through remaining slides. I have tried to do this OOo3.0 and also with OOo-dev3.3, on windows XP and also on Windows Vista using existing features and functionality. I did as follows: 1. Created one slide with two pictures pasted on it. These two pictures were different pictures in size and look. There was nothing special about these two. 2. Selected one picture 3.Clicked on view --> zoom by specifying zoom level value The above process zoomed in the picture. But it did not achieve the same effect as required i.e. in the presentation mode of the slide it did not zoom-in on the click of a mouse. Another way I have tried to test is by using "Custom Animation, Modify Effect" feature of OO. 1. I created one slide with two pictures. There was no specific reason of choosing these two pictures. These were in no way related to each other. 2. Selected one picture (say the second picture) 3. Clicked on Add given below the "Custom Animation, Modify Effect" button of OO. 4. Clicked on Entrance 5. Clicked on Zoom and then OK. 6. Clicked on Play to see the effect. When slide show started, the second picture did not appear until the mouse was clicked. Even the above procedure is not satisfactory as it did not produce the effect of zooming the picture after clicking mouse in presentation mode. However, if you can attach a file having some slides with animated description that the enhanced zoom feature should have, then that would clarify the issue more and a strong case can be made in favor of the said enhancement. This feature will be very helpful in presentation while focuing on a small portion of slide. The the OO development team may probably be requested to consider enhancing the existing zoom functionality. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I went to the url you included, but it no longer seems to exist. You mentioned in later comments that you thought presence of a program named "Sun Presentation Manager" was related to the bug. How can I determine if I have this installed on my machine? I created and saved 2 slideshow files in .opd and .sxi format respectively without errors. Both contain images dragged from Windows Explorer into the slides. I'm going to upload them as attachments in case they may be of use to someone. [graphics-issues] [Issue 49197] Unusable formatting (tab g roup) for Text Box
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=49197 --- Additional comments from squigho...@openoffice.org Sun Jun 6 04:08:00 + 2010 --- Configuration: - Ooo dev 3.3.0 DEV300m80 (build:9507) English - Windows 7 64-bit This issue still exists and can be reproduced using the steps outlined above. As the OP (original poster) says, the issue here is that Paragraph formatting (ie Tabs) created inside the "special" textbox get removed when the textbox loses focus, unless text is typed in before focus is lost. While reproducing this bug, I noticed that not only is the Paragraph formatting lost in this situation, but any other text formatting is also lost (ie Alignment, size, font, etc). I could log these all as separate bugs, but that seems like a waste of time. The face that formatting of various kinds is lost when the control loses focus (unless text is typed into the control first) suggests that either the loss or the gain of focus resets the control's formatting, which I feel is the real issue here. For example, here is an alternate set of steps which reproduce another loss of formatting when the "special" textbox loses focus - in this case, Text Alignment: 1) Create a new empty presentation in Impress. 2) Select the 'Title Slide' layout from the 'Tasks' pane. 3) Click anywhere in the 'Click to add Title' special textbox. 4) Notice that the cursor is sitting in the middle of the textbox, as the text formatting is set to 'Centered'. 5) Change the text formatting to 'Align Left' by clicking the 'Align Left' button on the 'Text Formatting' toolbar. You may have to make the 'Text Formatting' toolbar visible if it isn't already. 6) Notice that the cursor is now sitting on the left edge of the textbox. 7) Click off the textbox to remove focus. 8) Click on the 'Click to add Title' special text box again. 9) Notice that the text formatting for the textbox has been reset to 'Centered'. This issue should be switched back to "defect" from "enhancement". - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Here are the different file types, operating systems and open office versions that were tested while attempting to replicate this bug: OO 3.3 XP AVI - works Ouicktime movie - did not work ( movie taken from a digital camera, sound too), "format type not supported" divx - works mp4 - music file, "format type not supported" mkv - dvd movie, "format type not supported" OO 3.2 OSX 10.5 mov - digital camera movie with sound, crashed OO when trying to resize it. Stop trying to resize, works mp4 - works avi - works wma - music video, "format type not supported" mp3 - works OO 3.2 ubuntu 10.04 avi - works mpg - works flv - works mp3 - works The steps that were followed in the testing of each type: 1: Open a new presentation in Impress 2: Select Insert menu and click on movie and sound 3: Locate and select the file to be inserted 4: Wait and check the result of the media being added into the presentation I believe much of this issue is related to Open Office simply not supporting every possible codec that could be used in media playback. However some of the common types did not work on some systems, for instance wma worked on Windows XP but not on OSX but everything worked on Ubuntu 10.04. This could be due to third party libraries that Open Office is dependent upon for rendering the media. However I do not posses significant knowledge of how Open Office renders its media and if it relies upon any system specific libraries. For follow up testing to perhaps narrow the scope on this bug even more a useful test would be to test specific codecs on each of the systems to understand exactly which one is not being implemented or is inconsistently working on different platforms. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Report Summary: Inconsistent behaviors remain in the latest version for font color, highlighting, and background color icons across OpenOffice applications. Details follow. Also, please see attached file for a summary table. Build: OOo-dev 3.3.0, DEV300m78 (Build: 9501) OS: Windows 7 * FONT COLOR SHOULD STICK (CALC, IMPRESS, AND DRAW) The icon behavior is inconsistent between OOo applications and with MS Office applications. In Writer, a single left-click on the font color icon applies the selected color to selected text and "sticks" so that the same color can be applied another place in the document without re-selecting the desired color. This behavior is consistent with the font color icon behavior in MS Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. However, in Calc, Impress, and Draw, the selected color does not "stick" to be used again. Instead, the icon displays the color of a chosen cell or text. The user can only reapply the same color to a cell (in Calc) or text (in Impress or Draw) and must open the palette to change a color. This is inconsistent with the font color behavior in Writer and with the font color behavior found in MS Office applications. In Writer and in MS Office applications, a single, left-click applies the most recently used color to a selection. RECOMMENDATION: Change behavior of font color icon in Calc, Impress, and Draw so that a selected color "sticks" and a single, left-click will apply the most recently used color to a selection. The recommended behavior is already present in Writer and is consistent with MS Office applications. This behavior allows users to easily match colors throughout documents without requiring them to remember which specific shades of a color they used before. *** BACKGROUND COLOR ICON SHOULD APPLY A COLOR (WRITER AND CALC) In Writer and Calc, a single left-click on the background color icon reveals the color palette instead of applying a selected color. The behavior is the same as clicking on the disclosure arrow next to the background color icon. RECOMMENDATION: Change behavior of background color icon in Writer and Calc so that a selected color "sticks" and a single, left-click will apply the most recently used color to a selection. The recommended behavior is consistent with the font color icon behavior already present in Writer and is consistent with that found in MS Word and Excel. As above, the recommended behavior allows users to easily match colors throughout documents without requiring them to remember which shades of a color they used before. * A LONG-CLICK (CLICK AND HOLD) SHOULD APPLY A SELECTED COLOR (WRITER, CALC, IMPRESS, AND DRAW) When the font color, highlighting, and background icons are available, a long-click (click and hold) on each icon reveals the color palette in Writer, Calc, Impress, and Draw. This behavior is consistent across the OOo applications but is INCONSISTENT with behavior in MS Office applications. In MS Office, a long-click behaves in the same was as a regular click and the last selected color is applied to the selected text. RECOMMENDATION: Change the behavior of a long-click for font color, highlighting, and background icons so that a selected color “sticks” and a long-click will appy the most recently used color to a selection. This recommendation makes the behavior consistent with the poplar MS Office applications. It also makes the features more usable for individuals with handicaps who have less control of their input devices. * PALETTE OF COLORS SHOULD NOT COVER ICONS (FONT COLOR, BACKGROUND COLOR, HIGHLIGHTING) The color palette should not cover the font color, background color, and highlighting icons when it is invoked. This behavior is consistent across the OOo applications but is INCONSISTENT with behavior in MS Office applications. It makes it impossible for a user to recognize when they have unintentionally clicked on an icon and recover from their error. RECOMMENDATION: Change the behavior of the color palette so that it drops be

However, I’ve tried and failed to replicate this issue on the system detailed below. I’ve tried following the step by step guide to the letter, but with no success. I realize that this is a intermittent failure but it would be interesting to see if the original poster can replicate this on the latest version/dev build. Although the current step by step description is easy to follow, may I suggest you add a "shortest path" guide on how to replicate this behavior in as few steps as possible? I tried to replicate both by using the attached sample presentation as well as creating my own with lots of OLE objects. Other than killing the OOo processes, I also tried using the known impress crash bug 111928 to cause a “real” crash which might be useful for others when conducting follow up tests. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=111314 User jwlockhart changed the following: What|Old value |New value CC|'rainerbielefeld, regina' |'jwlockhart, rainerbielefel | |d,regina' --- Additional comments from jwlockh...@openoffice.org Sat Jun 5 20:21:26 + 2010 --- Judging by the response of the original reporter (shunesburg69) to the points made by regina and the obvious language challenges, let me try to add some clarification that may help bring this issue to a close. I believe the system is behaving as designed and documented and given that there is no option to enter an issue type of "Query" a resolution of invalid is all we can do with this issue. If my remarks below make sense to shunesburg69 perhaps they could confirm this. >From my understanding the Summary could be: "No way to prevent slide advance >on click or automatically". If I've got that right, this is not a bug and I'll explain how to do this. I'm using Win XP with latest patches and OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m78 (Build:9501). Replication and steps to resolve: = By setting up a simple presentation and looking at the default behaviour in slideshow mode I could see what I believe the user was reporting which is that by default a click on the slide during a presentation moves you to the next slide. If you then go to "Slide Show"/"Slide Transition" in the menu you see a panel which has some options to control advancing, specifically a section titled "Advance Slide" with two radio buttons "On mouse click" and "Automatically after" with the latter allowing selection of a number of seconds. I think this is why the reporter concludes "In Impress there are 2 choose for the transition by clic or automatically but if you want "no transition" it's impossible." So next I looked at the help material which I could find by pressing F1 while on that panel or from the references suggested by regina. This gave me the hint to look at "Slide Show"\"Slide Show Settings" in the menu which provides a more comprehensive set of options that I think the reporter missed. These include a set of checkboxes titles "Options" including "Change slides by clicking on background" and set of radio buttons titled "Default". With both of these selected, the behaviour is that there are no automatic transitions and clicking the mouse during a slide show does not transition either. Conclusion and Summary: === I think this is what the reporter wanted, because they want to use a hyperlinking model only. So I conclude not a bug but a training issue. One could of course argue that the help documentation could be clearer and that the sub-set of "Slide Advance" options provided on the "Transitions" panel is just confusing and as such a design bug. Just to recap, the resolution is to: Go to "Slide Show"\"Slide Show Settings" in the menu and: 1. in the set of checkboxes titled "Options" ensure the checkbox "Change slides by clicking on background" is NOT checked. 2. in the set of radio buttons titled "Type" select the first one "Default". 3. Click "OK" to save these settings (shown in attached screenshot). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The user can increase the width of the Tasks pane. 2. The user can undock the Tasks pane and expand its width without reducing the width of the slide. 3. The user can remove tasks which are not required in the Tasks pane. Notes: At resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, the need for scrollbar arises with just six objects to be animated. At resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, the need for scrollbar is felt the most. At resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels, it seems that there is enough space for each of the tabs. In each of the above cases, the Impress window was expanded fully. Having the current layout makes sure that the user is not forced to learn a new task. As the workarounds are easily available, I feel there is no need to implement this enhancement. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please use one of the ways on http://support.openoffice.org/ to get help with your OOo. You have set the paragraph properties as hard property to each paragraph. So they are only valid for this paragraph but not for a new inserted one. You can update the "default" paragraph style with the setting of one paragraph, to get the "keep together" and "no break" also to new paragraphs. "Keep together" normally prevents a page or column break between the paragraphs. That you get column breaks anyway is a kind of "emergency program" because the text is so large, that it does not fit in one column and there is _no_ place where a break is allowed. Why do you use that setting at all? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I hope that Ooo-development is benefitting as well, as you write that it is an Ooo-bug (the 2 open ODB files) as well. OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m77 (Build:9496) Windows 7 32-bit Steps to reproduce: 1: Open Microsoft Power Point 2007 2: Create a new blank presentation 3: Save blank presentation to disk as a 2003 .ppt file 4: Start Impress leaving PowerPoint open: Start->Programs->Ooo-dev3.3->Impress 5: In the Impress wizard select Open Existing Project 6: Click the Open Button and a new window should show up 7: Navigate to the saved file and open it 8: A new box should pop up saying that the file is already open: click Open Copy 9: Click Slide Show menu and start the slide show 10: A new window should pop up displaying that Open Office has crashed and telling you that your document will be recovered I have been able to successfully reproduce this many times with existing files. Upon further testing it is possible to reproduce this without having to create a new PowerPoint document every time. I also tested if this is a more generic error rather than some specific interaction with PowerPoint, and it appears that the only constraint is that the document is opened as not being able to be shared with other applications. These steps will also cause Impress to crash: 1: Start->Programs->OOo-dev3.3->Impress 2: Click open button 3: Open an existing PowerPoint presentation 4: Leaving the first impress running, open a new instance of impress: Start- >Programs->OOo-dev3.3->Impress 5: Click the open button 6: Open the same document you opened in the first impress session 7: You will now see the message saying the document is already open. Click the Open Copy button 8: Click on the slide show menu and then the Slide Show option to start the slide show 9: You should now see a message indicating that OpenOffice has crashed and will attempt to recover your document when it restarts. I also tested this bug with a .odp instead of a .ppt file using the steps listed above and it does not crash. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm uploaded a new file that replicates the issue. Steps to recreate: 1. Open a new document 2. Create a new table (Table > Insert > Table), Table 1, with 2 rows and 2 columns 3. Put one letter in each cell (A, B, C, D, top left to bottom right) 4. Select the cell with D in it; erase the D 5. Hit enter to insert a line break 6. Insert a new table (Table > Insert > Table) Table2, with 2 rows and 2 columns 7. Put one number in each cell (1, 2, 3, 4, top left to bottom right) 8. Select Table2 (Table > Select > Table) 9. Cut Table2 (Command + X) - NOTE: this seems to leave the table structure intact but remove the content, which is unexpected. 10. Move the cursor to the line above Table2 (but still within the same cell) 11. Paste (Command + V) - Expected: Table is inserted at cursor position - Actual: -- Cell containing Table2 is over-written with the content of Table2's top left cell (Cell containing 1) -- A new row is inserted at the bottom of Table1 --- Cell under "C" is blank --- Cell under "1" contains "3", Table2's bottom-left value - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Inserting a new paragraph within the document may break the column such that the overnext paragraph is put to the head of the next column. Step-by-step description of problem Open enclosed file RUBRICA FCL 09.10.08.odt with 6 columns containing addresses. (SORRY: DO NOT SEE HOW TO ATTACH SAMPLE FILE) Now put the curser to the left of letter G of the name Geiger (about in the middle of column 3), then hit Enter. Result: Paragraph Ghidini... is thrown to the head of the next column and the coherence property of the Geiger paragraph has been removed. This behaviour is not always reproducible, sometimes inserting a new paragraph happens without any problem. But most of the time insertion disrupts a column and repairing the document is quite discouraging: paragraph by paragraph you have to fill up the remainder of the voided column using the head of the next column, then you also have to fill up the next column and so on. Remark I should be very glad if you could show me a way to avoid the presented dificulty - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I would say this is a bug in OO.o but it is for sure a bug in the basic code also. The problem is with forming a URL - at one spot in basic code an address of type: /home/yipper/Documents/minutes//TakenDB.odb is used. The URL should of been: /home/yipper/Documents/minutes/TakenDB.odb Now I haven't gone back and checked for sure, but I think in OO.o 3.1.1 this would have caused an error - but it appears that under 3.2 it now actually creates two instances of the document, each instance pointing to the same physical file. Under Windows a lock is placed on the file and OO.o catches this when it creates the second instance of the ODB file in memory. Linux it seems does not place the file lock. Both instances of course use the same HSQLdb lock file. HSQLdb would normally support multiple users, so that makes sense that it works - but OO.o only uses it in single user mode therefore we get the in-memory only behavior for the second connection. @verjon right now I'm going through the basic code and making a few changes, it should be fine with 3.2 after the changes - I'll put another hour to it and then upload the changes as an attachment here for you to look over. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [gsl-issues] [Issue 87968] font embedding control for PDF export
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87968 --- Additional comments from p...@openoffice.org Sat Jun 5 11:52:21 + 2010 --- On second thought I can see the value of a replacement table for some fonts to be replaced by the 14 Standard fonts (like the mentioned Arial -> Helvetica), since you would probably want Arial (one of the default fonts on windows) in your document but replace it with Helvetica on PDF export for space saving. One could replace Arial by hand with Helvetica, but that's rather tedious. Such a list would probably be global (not per document) and should not be enabled per default for transparency reasons, but could come in handy for the user who has more intricate needs. So let me change my last statement to: yes, that might be an interesting feature - and this is not impleneted with this issue. Please file an enhancement type issue. I can however not say anything on the timeline when that might get implemented. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
