The PostgreSQL sdbc driver (I tested versions 0.7.5 and 0.7.6) return database
table names in the form public.tablename (e.g., table foo = public.foo, table
bar = public.bar).

However, OOo Base does not allow table names in this form.

As a consequence, it is not possible to write BASIC functions that query the
table name from the driver, and then use the returned information to build SQL
queries with.

The attached one-slide presentation has an enumeration, 1 .. 6.
The correct results, generated by OOo 2.4, can be seen in the attached PDF.
OOo 3.0 screws up the enumeration as can be seen in the second PDF.

Careful examination reveals that there's always a small delay involved with the
Appear effect. This gives doing a presenation a 'sluggish' feeling. Again,
with OOo 2.4, objects appear immedeately.

The attached presentation contains one slide. When shown, the first two
paragraphs appear immedeately while the third paragraph is slightly delayed.
The third para has effect Appear with options with previous and all timers
and delays set to zero. In OOo 2.4 this para shows immedeately, with the rest.
In OOo 3.0 there is a noticable delay.

Why is this relevant? The second slide shows two paragraphs. The third slide
shows the first paragraph and a modified second parahraph. While in OOo 2.4 this
works nice, the initial delay of OOo 3.0 spoils the show.

Bug or feature? Definitely a bug. When I want a small delay, I can select one
using Effect options. But as of OOo 3.0 I can no longer select to have no
delay.

With OOo 3.0 the graphics performance has detoriated further. Even with the
SlideshowRespectZOrder hack applied the performance is untolerabely slow.

I have a collection of presentations that I often use. After upgrading from OOo
2.4 to 3.0, several of them are screwed up. This means that I cannot reliably
give a presentation with OOo unless I have carefully screened all the slides,
effects, transitions, every time, over and over again. Very disappointing.

The attached sample presentation, when opened with 2.4, gives correct results as
shown in the first attached image.
When opened with 3.0, it gives incorrect results as can be seen in the second
attached image.

I'm using ctwm and openbox on Fedora 8/9 with Gnome. Both wms show the same
behaviour.

This is how to easily reproduce it.
On a 1600x1200 screen, run OOo, open a presentation (in design mode), maximize
OOo, save and exit.
On a laptop, start an ssh session to the other system, and start OOo with that
presentation. The splash screen shows, neatly centered on the screen. The
presentation then opens at 1600x1200, of which only the lower-right(!) section
is actually visible on the screen. When clicking the window zoom button, the
window resizes to the correct size.

I'll try the standard Gnome wm later.

If you're not going to support other encodings than UTF-8 and UTF-16, a slightly
more friendly error message would be appreciated.
You may close this bug as far as I'm concerned.

Since ODF is ISO standard, I think full XML conformance is a mandatory

In a presentation, I assign the effect Appear (on click) to a paragraph of
text. Using Effect Options, I assign Letter by letter to text animation.
When shown, the letters still appears all at once. I say appears, since
there's a very small flickering that could indicate that the letters are shown
individually, but much, much too fast.

While trying to slow down the effect, I noticed that the Delay between
characters is expressed in percent, which is a quite meaningless unit. It is
also limited to 102.4%. Milliseconds would be a better unit. The Speed setting
under Timing is disabled.

Although many effects are just intended to lighten up a presentation, the
Letter by letter is important since it is the only choice to represent user
input via the keyboard.

[gsl-issues] [Issue 88919] Signature support for PDF export

I strongly disagree. PDF export is a usability feature. You should view it from
a usability perspective, not from a programmer's perspective.

Export to PDF creates a viewable/printable (but in essence immutable!) image of
the document. It is not the same as export to RTF of Word, where you --indeed--
get an editable copy of the document in a different format. Export as PDF is a
separate menu item, a separate toolbar button. With reason.

Please reconsider changing this to DEFECT.

mt: I mostly agree.

Exporting, just like 'Save As...', means creating a new document. The old
(current) document does not change and hence its signatures (if any) will not be
destroyed.

No warning about losing signatures is necessary. Anyone who expects a signed
document to save as or export into a new, signed document does not understand
the basics of document signing.

When a (writer) document is digitally signed, it can still be printed but it
cannot be exported to PDF without destroying the signature.
When trying to export to PDF, a dialog pops up: Saving will remove all existing
signatures. Do you want to continue saving the document?.
Since exporting to PDF is equivalent to printing, this should be possible
without restrictions.

When a PostScript file is produced, it normally has LanguageLevel 2. However,
when the document uses EPS files of LanguageLevel 3 the level of the PostScript
file should be adjusted accordingly.

When you remove the arrow between [ebgui] and [rapporten] it behaves as

There are several bugs in the handling of the matching of paragraph begin and
end, making this facility very crippled.

The docs state that ^ and $ can be used to match begin / end of a paragraph.
However, patterns like foo$bar do not work since nothing is matched beyond $.
Similar ^.

You can change $ (a lone paragraph mark) into something else, but not foo$ or
$foo.

Suggested solution is to provide a special pattern (e.g., \p) that matches the
paragraph mark as an ordinary character.

Note that this is NOT a DUP of 15666.

Impress allows hypertext links in a presentation. These links can be http, ftp,
and telnet.
Telnet is old, insecure, almost extinct. Ssh is a much better alternative.
My request: please add ssh to the possible hypertext links.

Also, it is not possible to supress hidden slides from the export (all export

@@all: can somebody else confirm this on ATI hardware?

I see the same behaviour on nVidia, so its not ATI specific.

As a final remark, I hate to have to say that most slide and paragraph animation
effects look ugly due to non-fluid movements, even on very fast hardware with
very much memory and screaming video cards. In fact, the only effect that is
safe to use in a professional presentation is a simple Appear.

Thanks for the explanation. The way you describe it, this feature seems to be
intended to speed things up. What keeps puzzling me is that, in reality, it
slows down.
When I disable the feature, performance of 2.3 and 2.3 is the same as with 2.2.
With the feature enabled, which it is by default!, performance is slower.
That makes me really wonder why this feature was implemented in the first place,
and --even more-- why it is enabled by default.

What does this SlideshowRespectZOrder property do?
Why was it introduced?
What is the effect of setting it to 'false'?
What are the other effects of setting it to 'false'?
If there are none, why is SlideshowRespectZOrder default 'true'?

A serious regression in graphics performance makes good-working presentations no
longer acceptable. Presentations that looked nice and flashy in OpenOffice.org
2.2 look crippled in 2.3.1. I cannot show them to customers anymore.

To illustrate what I mean, I've created a sample presentation. It is part of a
presentation I've shown to customers several times on my notebook, and Acer
Travelmate 40001WLMi. It has 1280Mb of RAM, an ATI Mobile Radeon 9700 graphics
card, and a 1.5GHz Centrino processor. It's running GNU/Linux (Fedora 8).

OpenOffice.org versions involved are 2.2, official dutch build, and 2.3.1,
official Sun build.

I've made small movies of what it looks like using both versions of
OpenOffice.org; you can see them on my web site,
http://www.vromans.org/johan/OOo/ooo-graphics.html.

As already stated, I cannot show my presentations to customers anymore using the
newer versions of OpenOffice.org. Not without loosing my respect as a
professional.

Run OOo on a 1600x1200 screen. Maximize it. Close OOo.
Then run it, from the same computer, on a 1280x1024 screen. It will map a
1600x1200 window.
Suggested solution: Maximize the size of the restored window to the actual
screen size.

Seconded. Not having character styles is a BIG omission. I produce a lot of
training materials for Impress and maintaining consistent styles is a pain.
Also, not having character and paragraph styles undermines the statement that
OOo is a single, consistent program instead of a conglomeration of loose tools,
like MSO is (or must I say, was?).

It may be more urgent than you think. Think web-based print services where you
can submit an ODF document for printing. Or remote print servers.

The demand for a Linux version of quickstarter has been there for years now.
Finally there seems to be something usable and then it will not be taken into
production due to lack of interest (see mmeeks's comment on bug 72958)?

I cannot believe that Sun wants to force Linux users to Windows.

I think EURO is a misnomer, as is GULDEN.
The function turns a number into the textual representation of a financial
amount. Whether this is a Gulden (Florin), Euro or Dollar depends on the
localisation.

A better name would therefore be BEDRAG.

According to the 2.1 release notes, a GTK version of the quickstarter is now
available for GNU/Linux platforms.

After install of the RPMS unpacked from
OOo_2.1.0_LinuxIntel_install_en-US.tar.gz on Fedora Core 5 there is no
quickstarter to be found, and the appropriate checkbox (Tools - Options -
Memory) seems to be disabled.

What program implements the GTK quickstarter, and how can I enable it?

When a presentation is exported to HTML, the links to the main image (the image
of the slide) have ALT=... attributes with no text in it. This is flagged by
many web site checkers as a problem.

My suggestion is to put the slide title here, if available, or something like
Image20.

Note that the image links for the navigation buttons already have good alt
attributes.

When OOo is closed after printing a .doc, it pops up a dialogue document is
modified, save changes, even though in the Options-General the Printing sets
document modified status is unchecked. This is very boring and confusing.

This happens for example when printing a .doc recieved via email.

Create a new, default presentation.
View master slide.
Select the text frame with the bullets.
Give it a custom animation, e.g. appear by paragraph.
Switch to normal view.
Create a new slide, using this master.
The corresponding text frame on the new slide will not have the custom
animation.

As for the feature versus defect classification: What is the purpose of being
able to assing animation effects to master slides?
As far as I can see, the only purpose would be to propagate the effects to
derived slides.

In have 1.1.5 and 2.0.1 installed.
When upgrading 2.0.1 - 2.0.2, the installer offers to import the user settings
from 1.1.5. This is confusing and may possibly destroy the current 2.0 settings.
The installer should detect that there are 2.0 settings, and at least offer the
alternative to keep these settings.

- I didn't get the problems regarding user name, company, street,...
migrating from SO7PU5 to OOo1.9m130 on Linux...
  (I didn't try to migrate from OOo1.1.5 to OOo1.9m130...)

- That's correct (see my earlier addition).

 - AFAIK migrating fonts or printer drivers was not a question at any time

AFAIK, there are no release notes yet, but it would be a very good idea to
document clearly in the relase notes that importing fonts and printers is _not_
handled.

I have several OOo 1.1.x presentations that use the Appear text effect on
enumerations. When presented, each item of the enumeration appears on a
subsequent click.

When run onder 2.0, all items of the enumeration appear at once.

For me, this is a serious problem since my presentations are designed to use the
appear effect as it works in 1.1.x.

When you run the demo document under 1.1.x, the bullet points will appear one by
one when the mouse is clicked.

When run under 2.0RC, all bullit points appear together at once.

I hope this claries the problem.

I've noticed that with certain window managers, in particular CTWM, recent
builds of OOo2 show a strange (and show-stopping) behaviour with the context
(Right-Click) menu. The behaviour can best be described as if the context menu
gets mapped below the main window, instead of on top if it. This behaviour
happens on GNU/Linux (Fedora Core 2) with CTWM version 3.7 but it has been
confirmed with other systems as well. As far as I can detect build 1.9.82 was
okay, while builds 1.9.122 and later are affected.

Although it is tempting to conclude that it is a window manager problem, it must
be emphasized that OOo2 is the only application known to show this behaviour.

For the sake of completeness, this problem makes OOo2 totally unusable on the
affected platforms.
