@jes: agreed: it is a duplicate of 59547.

Do not know how to mark it as duplicate (or indeed if I can do that).

Now all that is left to do is to fix it :-)

Hello,

I do not think this is a defect but rather a new feature for Impress.
I also still believe that the emphasis should be on character styles rather than
paragraph styles.
At present, users of Impress can (have to?) learn to appreciate a styled
approach to writing a presentation/document and by allowing the creation of new
paragraph styles besides the already existing ones we will lose this.
Presentations created with Impress are almost automatically very consistent in
their appearance, something that every user appreciates and that comes as a
freebie.
On the other hand, in my experience I found the lack of character styles that
may be used to emphasise sections of the text consistently across a presentation
a very bad shortcoming and something that makes people doubt about the level of
integration of the various components of OOo.

Cheers,

Michele

Create a list of three elements and style it with Numbering 1.
Demote the first two elements to level 2.
The third element will be assigned number 2 even if it is the first level 1
element.

So you get this:
   1. numbering 1 level 2
   2. numbering 1 level 2
2. numbering 1 level 1 --- should be 1. !!

instead of this:
   1. numbering 1 level 2
   2. numbering 1 level 2
1. numbering 1 level 1

Resetting the numbering solves the problem

It is not possible to use the page number field in expressions.
Offsets exist that allow to add or subtract from the page number, but
expressions such as the following are not possible: n*(page number)+k

Example:
   Page
+---+

¦ [column 1]¦ [column 2] ¦

¦¦ ¦

Thanks for the quick reply.

I noticed that some numbered lists (set via paragraph styles) reset to Default
style. Is this reset to Default paragraph style going to be resolved when this
issue is fixed or should I file that as a separate issue?

Cheers,

OOo DEV300m24 (Pavel's build) on GNU/Linux (Ubuntu 8.04)

When using paragraph styles with associated numbering style in nested (mixed)
numbering/bullet lists, upon reloading the file the numbering of items after the
list is incorrectly reset to 1.

To reproduce the problem (unfortunately it takes a while, if desired I can
provide an attachment).

Associate Numbering 1 List style to Numbering 1 Start, Numbering 1 Cont and
Numbering 1 End paragraph styles.
Associate List 1 List style to List 1 Start, List 1 Cont and List 1 End
paragraph styles.

Open a new document and create the following paragraphs allocating the style
indicated in brackets:
text (Numbering 1 Start)
text (Numbering 1 Cont)
text (List 1 Start)
text (List 1 Cont)
text (List 1 End)
text (Numbering 1 Cont)
text (Numbering 1 End)

Demote the List 1 paragraphs by one level so that it will look like this:
1. text (Numbering 1 Start)
2. text (Numbering 1 Cont)
   *  text (List 1 Start)
   *  text (List 1 Cont)
   *  text (List 1 End)
3. text (Numbering 1 Cont)
4. text (Numbering 1 End)

Now save the file and reload it from disk. The list changes to the following:

1. text (Numbering 1 Start)
2. text (Numbering 1 Cont)
   *  text (List 1 Start)
   *  text (List 1 Cont)
   *  text (List 1 End)
1. text (Numbering 1 Cont) numbering reset to one
2. text (Numbering 1 End)

NOTE 1: this is a serious bug for people working on the OOoAuthors documentation
as, from version 3 onwards we use paragraph styles to manage lists.

NOTE 2: OOo2.4.1 does not exhibit this behaviour (it has a different issue which
I may file if I find the time).

NOTE 3: if you first create the numbered list 1 to 4 and then paste inside the
bullet list the file is saved and reopened correctly.

Cheers,

Michele

I guess it will be a bit tight, but it is worth a try.

I will send a message to the Italian localization group now to see if I can
gather a couple of volunteers willing to spend part of their weekend doing some
search replace.

Hello Petr,

Would it be possible to re-generate the SDF files now that the Italian l10n team
has finished translating?
this would avoid overwriting of the newly translated strings with the strings to
be corrected to solve this issue.

If the new strings from the Italian team have not been integrated yet, then it
may be safer to leave the issue open and fix it later (between two translation
cycles).

Once the strings are available it should be feasible to finish in three days, so
if you are quick and give us the strings tomorrow they will be back Monday.

Cheers,

Michele

OOo-dev300m20 on GNU/Linux.

OOo Writer crashes when trying to customize a toolbar.
This is a regression issue as in 2.4.1 there is no problem.

To reproduce:
1) create a new Writer document
2) Tools Customize
3) Select the Toolbar page
4) select an icon in the Standard toolbar (see note below)
5) select Modify Change icon
OOo Crashes.

Note: for the first selected icon, all the options that appear when pressing the
modify button are grayed out. Only when selecting a different icon the options
become active.

Hello *,

Translating with pootle is a royal pain since it is not possible to use global
search replace, so I suggest to wait until the 4th of July, create again the
sdf against the latest version of the database and sort out the issue quickly
before the next round of translation.
The negative effect is that the issue will not be solved for another x months,
but at least we do not risk ending up with conflicting versions of the same
string.

Cheers,

Michele

Hello hi,

I have probably made a mistake as the lines I can see on the PDF are not the
table and frame boundaries, but more likely the points where two tiles of my
background match.

I will then close this issue.
Apologies for the wasted time.

custom labelled caption.

To reproduce:
- open a new document
- Insert Picture from file [choose a picture]
- right click on the picture and select anchor as character
- right click on the picture and create a new Category (e.g. Figure)
- write some text in the Caption edit box
- press OK

Note that if the picture is anchored to the paragraph there seem to be no
problem

Tested on DEV300m17.

I cannot seem to be able to create gridlines borders anymore for a text table.

Test:
1. Open a new document and insert a default table ctrl+F12
2. Select the table (or at least more than one cell, then
2.a select on the table toolbar the borders icon and press the last icon on the
second row (borders around all the cells)
2.b select Table Table properties and go to the Borders page. You will notice
that the borders for the cells inside the selection cannot be set.

This is a regression as it works in 2.3.1 and 2.4.1

Hello I totally agree that we have to manage the process carefully and I am
quite aware of the problem as you can see here:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Talk:Handling_Translation_Issues
(25th Oct last year).
What I am saying is that this is a special case that can be handled a bit
differently given the special circumstances.

Please take a look at the rest of the comment and let me know if you spot a
mistake.

Cheers,

Michele

Assumptions
---
1) A small part of the strings to be fixed for this issue have also been
provided to the localization team.
2) The localization team knows that they have to translate the term sheet as
recommended in this issue

Process
---
1) the corrected strings for this issue are input in the DB before step 2.
2) the DB is updated with the new strings coming from pootle

Note: given assumption 1 some of the strings provided in the .sdf files for this
issue will be overwritten when the pootle strings get integrated, but given
assumption 2 this is OK.

Result
--
The issue is fixed both for the legacy strings and for the new strings.

[l10n-issues] [Issue 87671] [IT] Harmonization of the translation of the term sheet in Italian (Ta bella -- Foglio)

Hello coni,

In general I agree with you but in this particular instance I respectfully
disagree.

The Italian l10n team is already fixing this issue in the *new* strings for
OOo3.0 so the implementation of the changes on the legacy DB will be even
more important now in order to achieve consistency.

BTW: Valter already did the bulk of the work (1500 out of 2136 strings), so the
fix should become available by the end of this week.

Cheers,

Michele

Hello *,

If I understand correctly all these strings have already been translated, so it
should be safe to correct the issue and integrate them in the database.

The only recommendation is to make sure that the localization team knows that
they have to translate correctly the terms sheet/sheets from now on.

I will send a message also to assess how we can split up the work (1000+ strings
to be corrected.

Cheers,

Michele

[graphics-issues] [Issue 54385] finer granularity timing f or custom animations

Hello,

Tested with OOo 3.0 beta 2

As per the previous version, if I manually override the speed setting with a
value in seconds, the animation honours it, however the value is not displayed
in the speed box and it is replaced with one of the 4 default values
{slow=2.5s?, medium=2s?, fast=1s?, very fast=0.5s} when the hard coded internal
value for the setting is entered.

Also, I cannot seem to be able to change the speed of animations that start
simultaneously.

Summary: the RFE is still valid.

Cheers,

Michele

[graphics-issues] [Issue 54063] Color pull down menu shoul d not synch with selection

Hello,

Just tested with OOo 3.0Beta2 and the issue remains.

Here's how to reproduce:

1. Create a slide, add some text.
2. Colour a word (say in red)
3. move the cursor to a different word

Effect observed: the colour pull down menu synchronizes with the colour of the
text.

In Writer for example, the colour pull-down menu still remains set to the last
colour used, which is much more user friendly.

Use case: I want to change the colour of many words in my presentation.
I have to follow these steps *for each word*:
1) select the word
2) pull down the font colour selector
3) select the colour

If the font colour menu could remain unchanged I would have to follow the above
procedure for the first word, after which I could simply:
1) select the word
2) click on the font colour icon in the standard toolbar.

Cheers,

Michele

Please check out also bulletted and numbered list which also get allocated the
Default style (though not predictably) even if they are created using a custom

Hello Cor,

Thanks for changing the summary.
I am not very happy with the idea of allowing custom paragraph styles. You can
modify the 9 existing one as well as insert normal text boxes (not
autolayout ones).
What is really missing in my opinion is the ability of defining and applying
character styles (e.g. hyperlink, coloured text, emphasis, quotes, monospace
for code and so on.)

In summary I think the summary of the issue should be something like

add the capability in Impress to create, modify and apply character styles

Michele

Could the description of the issue be changed in something referencing character
styles availability within Impress? I think this would avoid the proliferation
of duplicate issues.

Also I would like to report here some excerpts from the comments made on issue
57296 which I think give a better idea of what is needed.

-- Redux in January 2007
i would particularly welcome this functional addition in order to get far better
presentation-level handling of things like consistent hyperlink colours...at the
moment, it seems backwards having to either manually recolour each hyperlink, or
setting the entire OpenOffice suite's link appearance in the preferences.

-- nemoresus in March 2007
I fully agree, impress can do a bunch of text formatting but its style support
sucks. It does not have paragraph styles either, only some hardcoded styles
applied to the whole text of text-boxes !

One can use style by inserting a OOo-text object but styles are not shared
between them (and it makes editing way more painfull).

Presentations are not only used as one shot eye catching things, their
consistency is also important for some people!

-- jvromans in March 2007
Seconded. Not having character styles is a BIG omission. I produce a lot of
training materials for Impress and maintaining consistent styles is a pain.
Also, not having character and paragraph styles undermines the statement that
OOo is a single, consistent program instead of a conglomeration of loose tools,
like MSO is (or must I say, was?).

-- aschwarzie in May 2007
The lack of character styles or the ability to easily copy and paste character
formating is a significantly impacting weakness, especially when it comes to
polishing the elements of a bulleted list, by highlighting key words.

The first option of the Wrap menu entry is named No Wrap in the context menu
but it is called Wrap Off in the Format menu.
In the online guide the neither of the above terms is used and instead this
first option is referred as none.

Should be fairly simple to correct so although certainly not a high priority it
would be nice to use the same term. (my preference goes to No Wrap).

Can give a hand correcting the strings.

Michele

[l10n-issues] [Issue 82572] [IT]: Translate Hyperlink into Italian

Hello,

to facilitate integration of the translated strings it would be great if three
orthogonal files could be provided:
1. strings with the word hyperlink only
2. strings with the word hyperlinks only
3. strings with both the words hyperlink and hyperlinks simultaneously

Also:
There is at least another issue opened which requires changes to UI and HC:
87671.
In order to avoid undoing changes when solving one issue, all the translation
issues *must* be dealt with sequentially.
So for example strings for issue 87671 should be created only after this issue
has been solved.

Michele

In the Italian localization the term sheet is translated, both in the UI and
on line help in two different ways, i.e. tabella or foglio.

It was lately agreed that foglio is a better translation.

As both the singular and plural will have to be replaced would it be possible to
produce three .sdf files as follows?

1. a file with all the strings containing the word sheet, but not the word
sheets
2. a file with all the strings containing the word sheets but not the word
sheet
3. a file with the strings containing both the words sheet and sheets.

This way the files should have a 0 intersection making the implementation easy.

Michele

When inserting a bullet point either from the standard toolbar or as a style
there is no spacing between the bullet symbol and the text. Even changing the
parameters in the dialog does not yield any result. A tab character can be
inserted placing the cursor between the bullet symbol and text and then pressing
ctrl+tab.

Only tested on Linux.

BTW: the bullet and numbering formatting dialog has changed for the worse.

87498 seems similar, but it seems that at least the shape was working when

In Impress callouts are affected while 87498 suggests they are not.

Created a couple of notes, then opened the navigator and double clicked on one
of the notes to check if the view cursor was jumping to the note or to the
text.
This resulted in a crash.

Cheers,

Michele

Ref: email thread with subject getting back on the users list Nov, 10 2007.

At present it is possible to insert up to five reminders in a document, however
there seems to be no easy way to manage them once inserted.
Reminders could be made more useful if they were made a category in the
Navigator or at least indicated by some marks in the document so that they can
be deleted without having to delete the text around them.

Refer to thread on users list with subject Tables and fonts in Writer, windows
started on Nov, 11 2007

Not sure if this is a duplicate of 29524.

When applying the format paintbrush to only a section of a paragraph, the rest
of the paragraph reverts to default formatting.

To reproduce:

1. Create two default paragraphs and change the format manually (e.g. change
font).
2. Select a word or two from the first paragraph and click on the format
paintbrush
3. Apply the format paintbrush to some words in the second paragraph and note
how the rest of the paragraph resets to the default.

It is not possible to return to normal view using the menu item View Normal
when in slide master view mode.

To reproduce:
Go to master View Master Slide Master
Select
View Normal

The button Close Master View in the Master Toolbar works instead.

Issue appears for the first time in version 2.3. Version 2.2 and earlier (up to
1.9.x work correctly).

has been un-fixed...

Will check again 680m2 and confirm if the strings were there.

Hello Petr,

I have solved the issue of duplicated strings, so if there are no mistakes, you
can integrate the attached sfd and close this issue.

Re 7340, there was a slight mistake in 3 strings that I have corrected (mail to
Frank and Raffaella). When the files have been imported also that issue can be
closed.

Michele

*** important remark ***

The Italian localization team is working on this and on issue 73470 with the
view to fix both in OOo2.3. Unfortunately some of the strings corrected for this
issue are also present in the .sdf files of issue 73470. If it could be possible
to wait until July 30th I can produce a single .sdf file that fixes this issue
and the other. This would avoid overwriting (partially) corrected strings with
other (partially) corrected strings.

Let me know!

Cheers,

Michele

Hello Petr,

I have changed the strings as per the issue (replaced the word modello with
the word stile where appropriate. I came across a Calc function called STYLE
that in Italian is currently called MODELLO.
In order to have consistency with the on line help, this function should be
renamed STILE. Should I open a separate issue for that or can it be covered
within this?

I could post it here but it does not seem really the right place.

The menu View Guides has the name Snap Lines in the context menu that
appears right clicking on the slide when in normal view.
Since this is the same menu operating on the same object, the terminology should
be the consistent.
Interestingly in the Online help, if looking for Guides there are among the
hits pages describing the snap lines although the word Guides is actually not
in the text...
I have a slight preference for Snap guides.

As discussed on the OOoDiscussion list, currently both Master Pages and Slide
Master are used to refer to the same object.
The suggestion is to replace in the task pane Master Pages with Slide Master
and make the corresponding changes in the On Line Guide (only one occurrency
found).

I have created several dialog boxes in star basic with a custom background
colour and custom fonts.
Note that custom background colours in WinXP are only visibile if the
appeareance is set to classic (i.e. Win2K style).
No problem up to OOo2.0.3, but starting from OOo2.0.4rc5 the buttons (and only
the buttons) flicker on the screen when the dialog box is invoked.

To reproduce you need to:
1. set the desktop appearance to Windows Classic
2. create in starBasic a macro with one commandButtons
3. change the background colour of this button
4. write the code that calls the dialog
5. call the dialog and observe the button.

Note that:
- this is a framework issue, although I associated it with Writer
- the push button created with the form controls do not seem to flicker
- buttons do not flicker in the starBasic IDE
- buttons of default colours don't flicker

Michele

It would be useful to be able to define a number of character styles for a
presentation.

In response to cgu: I think this is a bug. Note that it is inconsistent with
writer where this enhancement/bug has been implemented and indeed the colour
shown in the changeColourMenuButton (whatever the name is) does not change when
the view cursor is moved.

Apologies for reopening the issue.

I assigned a keyboard shortcut to the command insert--duplicate (in case it is
of any relevance I use the shortcut ctrl+shift+D).
Now, using the menu command it works ok, using the shortcut it still jumps to
the first slide.

Cheers,

Michele

First of all apologies if it is the wrong component for this issue.

When pressing alt+tab to switch to a new application, OOo captures the alt key
input and highlights the File menu.

It is rather frustrating, but I guess a low priority too.

Cheers,

Michele

Sorry to re-open this, I have just finished installing RC3 on WinXP SP2 and
still I do not think that the effect works correctly (and by correctly I do
*NOT* mean like in m$ powerpoint).

create a text box with a couple of lines
Select custom animation -- entrance -- appear
in the effect options under the effect tab select in the after animation combo
box: dim with colour, then select the colour you want.
In the text animation tab select by first level paragraph.

Play the animation and you will see that the colour changes immediately.

Now technically I guess it works ok (the animation appear finishes and the
colour changes), but actually the desired behaviour is that the colour of the
item x changes when item x+1 appears on the screen.

Maybe I am not checking a box or something like this, but at present the dim
with colour option seems a waste of time.

Cheers,

Michele

hello JK,

I am referring to the custom animation Appear. In the animation settings (effect
options) in the second drop down (After animation) you may decide to dim the
text after it has appeared.
Now, the way this effect works is as follows (at least that's how *I think* it
should work):
- the text appears
- when the next animation is played, the text changes colour to the one you
selected (normally the text is greyed out so that people stop reading it and
know what bullet point you are discussing).
The way it works now instead is practically the same of a rapid sequence of
appear + change font colour.

Note also (mabye it should be another issue, or more likely I should read the
manual) it seems not possible to interleave animated text so that I could
re-create the effect I wanted by having
1. the first bullet point appear on the screen
2. the second bullet point appear on the screen and at the first bullet point
change colour
etc... -- repeat for all the bullet points)

I hope I have been a bit clearer now, if not please don't hesitate to write
again: I think it is important to fix this.

Cheers,

Michele

At present a customised animation can only run with discrete speeds (from very
slow to very fast). It would be beneficial to have the capability of defining
the time the animation should take (in tenth of seconds steps like the delay
field).
A Timeline functionality would also be very nice.

Note that when importing a presentation from M$O the custom timing is respected
(can provide an example)

Hello es,

I am very sorry: the issue is not for writer but for impress where the behavior
is the one I described (the color shown in the font colour button synchronises
with the selection). I made a mistake when creating the issue.

What should I do now?
Should we close this issue (and I will open a new one) or is it possible to
modify the component field from word processor to presentation?

Cheers,

Michele

At present when a text is selected the pulldown menus in the toolbar for font
color area and highlight synchronise with the selection. CHances are that the
user will want to change the color if the button is used and it is better to
leave the last used one in the quick selection (e.g. if I last used red2, the
button should allow me to select red2 immediately).

when using the custom animation appear--dim with colour the new colour is
applied immediately whereas the text should be dimmed when next animation
starts.

It would be useful to be able to define the tab width in the OOoBasic IDE. It is
currently fixed at 4 spaces and cannot be changed
