Fine... This cell merging feature is part of BIFF8 and not supported by BIFF5.
If
this file is loaded into Excel 5.0 or Excel 95, there are no merged cells.
Nevertheless, Excel 97+ will load the cell merging, so will will do this too.

Here is the patch for biff5 cell merging. It's the same as for biff8. Tested on
OOC680_m7 and seems working fine.

Dear developers,
company where I work (40+ users) is also being affected by this issue. Please
fix this defect in nearest release (2.0.5 I guess, as 2.0.4 will be code
freezed in 3 days).
Also priority does not seem to be set correctly - issue deserves at least P3
as it affects majority of OOo users in Russia.

I am testing my patch to make Excel 95 (Biff5) cell merging work properly. Seems
like cell merging data in biff5 and biff8 is the same. I will submit the patch
these days after testing.

BTW, there is another issue regarding biff5 import. 1C additionally uses MSO
Drawing Objects to insert floating areas with text. In biff5 it is just OBJ
(0x005D) and completely ignored by OOo import.

Attached file contains such objects at the bottom.
