Follow the symlink and take the attributes from the target. Other apps work in this scenario, why can't OOo? - Ima not the submitter of this whole bug, I just forwarded it, so you might want to ask the original submitter for his opinion.. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. UCB does it the same way, btw. A symlink has its own set of properties, that is independent from the link target, like last modified time. I'm not aware of any file access API that handles symlinks completely transparent. You need a chance to distinguish between the link and the real object. Even an 'ls' for a link gives you the link's properties and not the properties of the target. Is it okay for you if I close the task as 'invalid'? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is per definition. Then this definition is wrong. Symlinks don't change if a file change. Obtaining those data from the symlink is just plain wrong. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is per definition. I'm not aware of how this is defined for UCB. So either this has to be changed in UCB or the code that checks for the modified file time of the python script has to be altered. @KSO: Please reassing. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. There is a symlink in ~/.openoffice.org2/user/Scripts/python that has the real script as the target. When I alter the script, OO does not notice unless I quit and reload it. From looking at /usr/lib/openoffice/program/pythonscript.py, it seems that there is some logic that tries to reload a script if its file modification date changes; in order to determine the modification date of the script, com.sun.star.ucb.SimpleFileAcess.getDateTimeModified is called. I noticed today that changing the mtime of the script's symlink makes OO reload the script. I used strace to confirm that getDateTimeModified is trying to be too clever, and is calling lstat when it should just be calling stat. --- snip --- - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
