[Alsa-user] via82xx at boot time

Hi

I am a linux mandrake 9.1 user (kernel 2.4.21 and alsa
0.9.0rc8) user and the owner of a VAIO laptop with a
VIA VT8233 (rev 50) sound chip. Apart from the crakles
of the sound if the sample rate isn't 48000 Hz, I have
an other problem. After a look at the /var/log/syslog
file, I can see:

PS: I am interested in the midi software an dI know I
need a software synthetiser but I don't know which one
I must use and how to connect it to the output device
of my soundcard and so on...

[Alsa-user] M-Audio Quattro USB

2003-10-11 Thread Falko Rütten
Hi,

does anybody have a working configuration with this soundcard? I followed
the hints and notes posted here and elsewhere, arranged my modules.conf
my .asoundrc accordingly -- still there remain some problems:

1. I don't seem to be able to use my mixer-device properly, i.e. aumix,
amixer, alsamixer fail (no conrols show up)

2. only two ports show in qjackctl: alsa_pcm 1/2 capture and playback.

3. during the boot procedure, I get beeps when USB hotplugging gets enabled,
and this kernel messages:

ALSA usbaudio.c:1061 current rate 30464 is different from runtime rate
96000

  followed by numerous/bulk timeout messages.

However, I do get sound (peak is constantly set to max): for example, xmms
can play mp3s with the output on the Quattro's first two channels.

It would be nice, if someone with a working configuration (or a better
working than mine) could share his experience with me and hopefully his
configuration settings with me.

I appreciate any help and hints.

Cheers,
 Falko

P.S.:

Here is the stuff I am using:

Board K7S5A, SIS chipset
kernel 2.4.21-99-athlon
alsa-0.9.6-66
jack-0.80.0-36

I use standard Red Hat 9.0, with the kernel installed 2.4.23-pre6.
I accept all the default for 'configure' (just run it as ./configure).
I turned off any optimization for gcc.

I see this problem in the version 0.9.6, as well as latest version
   from cvs.
Would appreciate any help or hint what I'm doing wrong.

TI this should have been fixed on the cvs.
TI please check whether include/config.h has CONFIG_HAVE_PDE entry.

TI check whether alsa-driver's configure.in includes the check of
TI CONFIG_HAVE_PDE (just grep it).
TI if yes, include/config.h.in wasn't generated properly.
TI otherwise, the version you're using is not the correct one...

Well, sorry I didn't mention it in the previous post - I checked
include/config.h.in first, before I checked generated
include/config.h, and no, it didn't have CONFIG_HAVE_PDE defined
either.

That's a strange thing indeed: I downloaded just a regular daily CVS
snapshot from the web site, and somehow it's not a correct version? Where are the
correct
versions then? I would be very much like to get alsa installed and
move on.

Another question, is it an ALSA problem, or kernel problem? There was
new kernel released yesterday, 2.4.22-pre7, I was wondering whether if
I install it it would be of any help...

Thanks

Thank you, your line does the job :)

Summarizing my little experience now I can listen to RealAudio

listen the stream with my sound card and at the same write it to a
file (or a fifo node), eventually passing it to sox and encode it
to mp3 format :)) I'm really start to enjoy ALSA plugin
architecture..

Thank you all again and best regards,

[Alsa-user] Fatal error: Compiler type does not match

2003-10-11 Thread Daniel Kasak
Hi all.

Alsa suddenly stopped compiling for me yesterday. I don't remember
upgrading anything important recently. I did some searching on Google
and found a few people referring to alsa-driver-0.9.4 and that a fix was
supposed to be in alsa-driver-0.9.5, but I'm using 0.9.7 and getting the
same problem.
Also, the cvs server seems to be down at the moment...

You don't have a mixer device, because the Quattro doesn't have one. A
lot of USB audio cards don't have a mixer.

What is the command line you use to start jack? And how does your
