[altusmetrum] TeleBT Mounting Bracket
Some of you have seen the 3D-printed mounting brackets Keith and I use to mount a TeleBT on the boom of an Arrow yagi antenna, and asked about them. They do a great job of keeping your TeleBT from flopping around on the boom, working the SMA connector loose, etc. This bracket was actually designed by my son, Robert Garbee, now in his second year as a mechanical engineering student at Georgia Tech. He recently updated the design to make it stronger and easier to reproduce reliably, and I am happy to report that the new version worked out great for me at an NCR launch this weekend! We've just published the design as both a FreeCAD file and a ready-to-print STL file, using the Creative Commons CC-by-SA license. If you have a TeleBT and access to a 3D printer, feel free to print one yourself! I've also made them available for sale in my store. For full details, see: http://altusmetrum.org/TeleBT/mount/ I've also published the STL file on Thingiverse for those of you who prefer that interface and tool set: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2577522 To buy a pre-printed bracket and/or the associated SMA to BNC adapter, find them in my store at: http://shop.gag.com/parts-and-accessories/telebt-bracket.html http://shop.gag.com/parts-and-accessories/sma-to-bnc-adapter.html Enjoy! Re: [altusmetrum] TeleBT v3.0 is here!
Hi Clay, That would be neat but at the cost they go for highly doubtful.:-) ;-) U, one of those cheap SDR dongles can do some rudimentary signal analysis on an Android for $30.00. Apply the ElementalX solution:Nexus 7 (2013) | ElementalX.org | | | | | | | | | | | Nexus 7 (2013) | ElementalX.orgNexus 7 (2013) FEATURES Stock/AOSP and CyanogenMod/CAF versions easy installation and configuration with Aroma installer optional wake gestures support optional swe... | | | | View on elementalx.org | Preview by Yahoo | | | | | and you can have the dongle attached to the OTG port AND have external power applied atthe same time. Only issue there is one loses the ability to just plug in a memory stick aloneCan still do that with a Y cable with a power source attached. Can use external power alone also. Can easily and non-destructively reset the option if you don't like it later. Actually their Tele-GPS sends out their telemetry and can do an APRS packet nicely. Their other units can do APRS if one can go without all the other real time information. The Tele-GPS is the smallest available GPS rocket tracker out there and I was able to put it into the nosecone of a 38mm minimum diameter Go Devil 38. I've has 5 sight unseen flights with other rockets and the Beeline APRS trackers got 'em back every time. On the radio, I hear the Altus-Metrum data packet and the APRS packet.I think sending two different sets of data at about the same time quite a trick. One can still use an APRS H/T interfaced with say a Garmin 60CsX to be able togo portable to the recovery site. Triapsing around with a laptop is a real PITA. The TeleBT helps in that regard of having a portable solution with the Altus-Metum hardware. I am not a programmer but if Altus Droid could decode APRS packets the Beeline APRS crowdwould likely buy a few of them. Geez that nifty receiver mounted on the antenna beam. That is a great way to go! [altusmetrum] TeleBT v3.0 impression
Two words, I like! I only have the TeleGPS but the device transmits the Altus Metrum telemetry in sequence with APRS packets. So one can use AltosDroid and anyone with an APRS rig on frequency can monitor the APRS position packets both at the same time. Great for having backup. I needed a TeleGPS for a small project and it's the smallest GPS rocket tracker out there. One can use it as an APRS tracker by itself so one doesn't have to purchase a dongle or a TeleBT to use it like a BeelineGPS tracker. All that position data comes across the D72A screen just like any other APRS device so don't be shy in purchasing a TeleGPS because it will work with any 70cm APRS receiving station. AltosDroid/TeleBT/or Dongle gives portable maps and is a better navigation solution than APRSDroid for a variety of reasons. Plus if using a Kenwood D7/D72 or Yaesu VX-8GR interfaced to a Garmin 60Cs(X), any round port socketed Garmin or a blue cased Legend one can navigate automatically with a map in hand in the exact same fashion as a Beeline GPS tracker. The Heading Situation Indicator in the Garmin 60 Cs(X) units are really easy. Follow the arrow and it will tell you how long it's going to take to get to the rocket icon besides being able to scroll back and forth to the map display (Not to diss the Beelines, I have three of them.) Re: [altusmetrum] TeleBT Connect Issue
Here is a follow up to my post from last weekend. I had a chance to experiment with my phone and the TeleBT yesterday. The issue does happen at home as well as at the launch site. I haven't found a condition that causes the lock up 100% percent of the time. It seems most likely to happen when bluetooth is not enabled when the app is launched. I have not seen the issue happen if bluetooth is enabled and the phone is rebooted prior to launching the app but I need to test it more. So it seems that it has something to do with the phone and how long it takes for the bluetooth service to become available and when the app is launched. At least now I know a start up process that works so I can avoid the issues I had been experiencing. Re: [altusmetrum] TeleBT Connect Issue
Kevin, Thanks for the reply. I agree with your point. I was trying to be complete and left out some important information. I generally use a small ground plane antenna connected directly to the TeleBT and place it on top of my truck so that it is above everything. I assemble the rocket on the tail gate of the truck and that is where I was standing with the phone when I tried to connect the phone to the TeleBT. The rocket was fairly close to the phone at this point. I got it to connect when I placed the TeleBT down closer to the phone on the side of the truck bed, maybe 2 feet apart instead of 6 or 7 feet apart when it was on top of the truck cab. It could have also just been coincidence that it connected when it did. I need to repeat the steps and see if I can get it to consistently connect. This morning it connected when I went out and placed the TeleBT on the truck cab and came back inside the house. Probably 15 to 20 feet apart. I'll have to try it that way with the TeleGPS next to the phone so I can rule that in or out of the probability pool. I'm still trying to figure out if there is some sort of TI that exists at the launch site or it is something I'm doing or something else. Curious to see if anyone else had experienced issues with the bluetooth connectivity?
