When is possible stay GG and GF fields on the HO-68 future operational

They are among the most dense in terms of amateur radio operators in
South America but was not well covered on past schedulles.

Anyway we are keep tuning even during beacon-only mode. These are some

[amsat-bb] XW-1 0815 UTC over Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

2009-12-26 Thread 9w...@9w2qc.net
Dear All,

For the first time this morning (26th December 2009 at 0815 UTC, 45 Deg
Elevation), the linear transponder of XW-1 / HO-68 was turned on over Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. The transponder was sounding very well, with a couple of
high speed CW stations and JAs heard on SSB just after AOS.

Unfortunately, had too short a window to find my uplink and work the JAs.
After the JA window has passed, managed to have a nice contact with E21EJC.
As published, the linear transponder shut off at 0819 UTC, and after this
the following CW telemetry was recorded:

http://www.9w2qc.net/amsatbb/HO68_1120MYT_45DEG.mp3

Great sounding satellite, and hope to see the linear/FM transponder
activated more often over this part of the region. BTW, is there any
particular e-mail address (maybe from the control team) that we should use
to send telemetry recordings to?

Would also like to wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2010.

[amsat-bb] XW-1 CW Beacon very stable

2009-12-23 Thread Henk, PA3GUO
Hi Alan,

XW-1 is extra-ordinary stable with its CW Beacon.

Using the current kepler set, I can set the filter of
my Kenwood TS2000 to 50Hz, and XW-1 stays nicely within
during the entire pass (15..20 minutes). Well done !

This is just 55 seconds:

[amsat-bb] XW-1 linear transponder frequencies here

2009-12-23 Thread OZ1MY
Hi all,
Tried it for the first time this evening.

I only had to change the downlink setting +200 Hz to hit
the correct frequencies.

You may experience differently with other radios. I use
an IC-910. ICOM seems to display frequencies differently from
the professional standard so that you have to be like 600 Hz
to 800 Hz off the nominal carrier frequency in USB and LSB on
the display.

As far as I know the carrier frequency is used for professional
radios.

Great satellite. May it have a long life :-)

[amsat-bb] XW-1 QSO and packet attempt

2009-12-20 Thread Mark L. Hammond
I was happy to make a QSO on the FM repeater of XW-1 tonight during the 0210utc
21 Dec 2009 pass, and tried some packet too.

Signals were S9 or better (didn't really look carefully). Audio was loud and
clear on all stations I heard.

I was able to get connected to the BBS, but unable to upload a small file. A
directory request was given a -2 error a few times, too. So, it will take some
tweaking, but it's working!

Bravo,

Mark L. Hammond [N8MH]

[amsat-bb] XW-1 North America FM 21Dec2009 0205z Audio

2009-12-20 Thread John Papay
The XW-1 pass over North America at 0205z was interesting.
When the bird first came up over the horizon, it seemed to be
fairly easy to work through although it was apparent that there
were other signals (probably without tone) that were on the channel.

As the bird went higher (an 86 degree pass for me), it was harder
to get into. It could have been that the BBS stops the voice
repeater but there were times that VE2DWE was making it (although
noisy) and my signal was not there at all. Maybe the amount of
deviation on the tone makes a difference when there are a lot of
competing signals on the input.

As the bird sank low on the horizon on the way north, it was again
possible to get into it. Normally there are not many who get
into any satellite that is in northern Canada. Less congestion on
the input gives you a better chance.

The details of how this bird is designed to handle packet and
voice at the same time may provide an explanation of what we all
experienced. The signal was strong during the entire pass; no
problem hearing it.

The audio recording of this pass can be downloaded at:
http://www.papays.com/XW-1_21Dec2009_020500z.mp3

We look forward to more testing in the FM/BBS mode. Thanks
to everyone who played a role in launching this satellite.

73,
John K8YSE

[amsat-bb] XW-1 BBS uplink

2009-12-19 Thread Mineo Wakita
I succeeded in uplink to BBS digital store-forward transponder.
There are many confusions between FM transponder and Digital BBS.
Therefore the file upload to the BBS was not completed.
Because it influence by the living together of FM and Digital BBS
each other, this use feels like being difficult.

[amsat-bb] xw 1 satellite

2009-12-19 Thread Perry Yantis

Just worked the new xw-1 satellite.

It is nice to have a new ssb/cw satellite and it sounded great on the
past a short time ago.

Then that was followed by a VO-52 pass that was even louder (of course
it is higher).

I hope this new bird stays in the ssb/cw transponder mode most of the
time.

Great satellite times ahead.

This gives me more of a chance to reach 6,000 qso's by satellite
(still need 38)

Hi all,

Using for the uplink 45W and 1/4 VHF magnet whip and for the downlink a
TH-F6 and CJU INSIDE THE CAR because it was raining. The bird peaks S6 in
these conditions and max sat elevation for me was 11 degrees. My working
conditions was similar to these:

http://eb4dka.laserenadigital.com/Videos%20AMSAT/VIDEO_EB4DKA%20via%20FO29%20desde%20movil.html

The only difference was that the F6 and the CJU was inside with the doors
and windows closed.
Many many stations trying to reach the sat.

Thank you AMSAT CHINA for your wonderful present!!!

[amsat-bb] XW-1 over Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

2009-12-16 Thread Sion Chow Q. C. (9W2QC)
Dear All,

After a long time away from the satellites, I am pleased to report the
reception of XW-1 over Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Time was 1416 UTC to 1435 UTC and I had a maximum elevation of 68
degrees. Managed to copy the beacon on 435.790 CW +/- with a very
good signal of S9+. Tried to work the FM and Linear transponder, but
unfortunately could not get the downlink.

Is the transponder off during this pass? Time permitting, will try
out again 1.5 hours from now.

Congratulations to the China team for the very successful launch.

73,
Sion Chow Q. C.,

[amsat-bb] XW-1 13:20Z pass audible

2009-12-15 Thread Bruce Robertson
Listening to this pass right now, using Mineo's keps. Quite audible
with very few fades from 5 deg. with a 1/4 wave vertical and a
mast-mounted preamp. Telemetry does have a 5 second period about every
minute or so when it goes off. The keps are not yet suitable for
doppler tuning: I'm tuning up by 2kHz right now. Hooray for the
Chinese amateur community and for those who allowed the launching
hardware to be used for our benefit!

[amsat-bb] XW-1 Over North America 15Dec09 1517Z

2009-12-15 Thread John Papay
The XW-1 CW Beacon was heard over North America
this morning with an excellent signal and tone
quality. It sends a long string which changes
a bit on every transmission.

The keps are a bit off since the bird went over
the horizon prior to the prediction. I lost it
when it was still at 2.7 degrees according to
SatPC32. The doppler correction is off as well
indicating changing keps. Hopefully we will get
some better keps soon. The bird is apparently
ahead of the predicted position.

A recording of XW-1 is on my webserver:

http://www.papays.com/XW-1_15Dec2009_1517z.mp3

At one point the antenna had to turn around. I had some
copy on this bird while the antennas came around 180 degrees
indicating a strong signal. I noted that there were polarity
shifts between right and left hand circular. At one point
I tuned to the packet frequency to see if there was any activity.
I heard none but only listened for a short time before returning
to the beacon frequency.

Congratulations to the Chinese Team that designed, built and
launched this satellite. It is off to an excellent start. We
look forward to having it operational soon and for many years
to come.

John K8YSE EN91dh

[amsat-bb] XW-1 again over Europe

2009-12-15 Thread OZ1MY
Hi all,
It works great.

Thanks to Nigel for the new keps for Object A:

XW-1
1 36121U 09072A 09349.53641119 -.0045 0-0 0+0 031
2 36121 100.5050 046.6267 0007989 035.4736 324.6735 13.1639108550

I changed the name from Object A to XW-1 :-)

It works on SatPC32 and NOVA for Windows.

On the pass with AOS at 16:45:50 UTC here in Copenhagen the tone did not
change (to my old ears) over the whole pass.

Used 435.789400 MHz as the center frequency on the IC-910 in USB.
The usual ICOM offset in USB.

Nice 20 minute passes and long range. Looking forward to the transponders.

[amsat-bb] XW-1 Western North America 15Dec2009 1702z

2009-12-15 Thread John Papay
XW-1 was again heard over western North America
with an excellent signal. The new keps provided
by Nigel G8IFF/W8IFF were used for Object A and
found to be spot on. I set SatPC32 for automatic
operation with the TS2000 in the CW mode and the
computer clock synchronized with NIST. I never
touched the radio dial or the antennas during the
entire pass and as you will hear on the recording,
the CW tone never changed. The TS2000 was updating
the frequency every second.

Again I found polarization shifts but the bird did best
on Left Hand during most of the pass. This was a 22 degree
pass for me to the west.

One of the three letter code groups changes on every string of CW
starting with BJ1SA XW XW etc and ending with XW XW. For example,
the 3 letter groups for some successive transmissions were:
TNE TDT AAE ATE 4VE A6E TBT 4VE T6E ATE. Every other code group
in the string stayed the same, at least during this pass.

I started the recording late. It is much better than my first
recording with the older keps on the amsat webpge.

http://www.papays.com/XW-1_15Dec2009_170842z.mp3

Let's hope we can start using the v/u transponders for voice/cw
soon.

Thanks again to all who were involved with this satellite.
It is operating very well.

John K8YSE EN91dh

If my numbers are correct, this bird is certainly much higher than AO-27 and

bit further east for those needing KH6 on the birds. Let's hope for more

[amsat-bb] XW-1 Decoded telemetry

2009-12-15 Thread PE0SAT
Hi,

With the help of www.ham.vgnet.nl/downloads/XW-1_Telemetry_Format.pdf
I decoded the beacon information I received.

The output power is fluctuating, is there any idea why this is happening?

And an other thing, don't we miss a lot of information within the
telemetry? channels 6 to 13 have a value 000?

Maybe my decoding isn't correct and other amateurs have other information.

[amsat-bb] XW-1 Pass over FN02ox

2009-12-15 Thread John Marranca, Jr
AWESOME!

We had an amazing 75 degree pass here...and not only could the CW beacon be
heard quite low on the horizon, but it exhibited very little fade. What's
even more exciting, is that looking ahead, XW-1 promises many TRANS-ATLANTIC
QSOs with Western Europe from the Northeast.

Thank you AMSAT China. Good job!

[amsat-bb] XW-1 Heard over VU

2009-12-15 Thread Nitin Muttin [VU3TYG]
All,

I heard the beacon of the XW1 during the 16:32 UTC pass on 15th
Dec.VU2BJZ,VU2WMY and VU2GUR also heard the CW beacon. The signals were good
right from AOS to LOS. The CW telemetry said that the beacon RF output power
was 123 mw and the beacon power supply was as 0.65 volts. I used the
telemetry decode application provided by the XW1 team.

Recording of the telemetry signal can be found at
http://vu3tyg.addr.com/XW1/XW1-Beacon.zip and the screen shot of the
decoding application showing the data at
http://vu3tyg.addr.com/XW1/xw-1data.GIF

Congratulations AMSAT China on the successful launch and all the very best
for the testing and activation of the payloads.

Guys,

If possible, please send me the audio record, content, your QTH,
callsign, date/time of the XW-1 beacon you heard by email.

Later, you'll be able to upload it via web. But now, only email works.

[amsat-bb] XW-1 Doppler.SQF entries

I think I have these right! Plugging these into your Doppler.SQF file
and restarting should set you up for auto-tuning XW-1 after launch if
that is what it is named as in the keplerian file. Can you tell I'm
excited to be getting another high LEO transponder?

Good Luck to the team on the launch!

XW-1,67.0,$3F,1

Put that in the sub-tone.sqf file.

[amsat-bb] XW-1?

2009-12-11 Thread herr
Wondering if XW-1 was launched. I saw that China has just launched the
Yaogan 7 Remote-Sensing Satellite. The launcher, orbit, etc looks right
and is pretty close to the previously stated 20Dec data. Any updates out
there?

[amsat-bb] XW-1

2009-12-01 Thread John Heath
Hi
Great to have such positive news about China's entry into the amateur radio
satellite field.
Alan Kungs recent posting was most encouraging. Will the space authorities in
China will have a similar positve attitude towards amateur radio within their
ambitious manned spaceflight program ? I  hope so, and wish them well.

[amsat-bb] XW-1 launch date?

2009-11-30 Thread Masahiro Arai

ANS-333 shows XW-1 expected launch date is middle December.

I heard XW-1 will launch with HJ-1C by CZ-C2 launcher. If this is true,
NASA Space Calender http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/calendar/calendar.html
shows its launch date is March 2010.

When will XW-1 launch??
