Hi square, welcome back, glad you're still alive!
We're continuing to develop 0.x in parallel with amsn 2.x development.
You want to rewrite privacy tab? ok, but WHY? you give no reason at all and
you don't say what you plan to change... If you want us to allow you to
change the privacy tab, first tell us what is the problem with it? why you
want to rewrite it? isn't it better to just fix/change what's bothering you?
What is the plan for the future of the privacy tab? can you do a mockup of
what it would be like? etc...
Also, I don't believe that changing the privacy tab is a good idea without
changing the whole preferences window. We've had for a long time plans to
rewrite the whole preferences window into something more usable, and I think
that if anything needs changing in the prefs window, that would be the first
thing to do instead of changing one tab only...
If you want to help, I would instead suggest you go look at the TODO page in
the wiki, there are a lot of things there than need fixing and that are more
important and more urgent than the privacy tab.
I'd like you to discuss any change/fix you want to do first, because the
items in the TODO could be confusing or obsolete.

anyways, I'm glad you're back, let's just hope you'll stick around this
time... any reason why you disappeared?

Hi Kakaroto glad to see you :)

So i choose privacy tab because:
1) i have to remember some things about the code :P
2) I believe privacy tab it's not simple to understood, we have, from
years, various posts on the forum that ask: what means red... etc...?
3) We can simply put 1 list instead of have 4 lists, with some buttons Add
it in CL Remove... etc... . So when an user select an email some buttons
can be enabled and other disabled. We can have a search bar, with special
options (See only blocked people, etc...). We can also have:

Column: Email | Column: Blocked | Column Removed etc...
 Buttons:
   $email |No| Yes
| Block/Unblock selected user |
   $email1|No| No
   | Add to CL ... |

I didn't explain in the previous email what I'd like to do about, because i
wanted to know if amsn 0.x was still in development :P.
I know we have more useful things with more priority, but as I said in 1)
...

About my disappearing: i am going to university and i am working
(part-time). But i want to have my spare time to do things that i love as
amsn :-). So i decided to pass from 6hours to 4hours in the job, so i have
more time to study and the weekend to follow my hobbies, friends and my
lover. Those three things are my resting time :)

Tell me what do you think about privacy tab, i know Preferences Window
should be changed (from years [?]) but i think we can start at least from a
tab...

then that's definitely not the right place to start, it's complicated code,
start with something smaller...

 2) I believe privacy tab it's not simple to understood, we have, from
years, various posts on the forum that ask: what means red... etc...?

it's the simplest you can get.. and it's rare people asking about what it
means, also because it's rare people who actually use it... and the response
is in the FAQ, we could improve it by adding a 'legend' on the side, not by
rewriting it.

 3) We can simply put 1 list instead of have 4 lists, with some buttons Add

I don't really understand this, but it doesn't look simpler to me.. also, I
don't like the idea of buttons.. what people want is the ability to select
multiple contacts from those lists.. with buttons that get enabled/disabled,
you won't be able to do that.

I didn't explain in the previous email what I'd like to do about, because i
wanted to know if amsn 0.x was still in development :P.

no prob.

I know we have more useful things with more priority, but as I said in 1)
 ...

yeah, but like I told you, it's better to start with smaller things, I'm
sure you'll find nice small things in the TODO that you can work on, it will
be better and easier to start with something small, than a huge 'project'
like this, a rewrite is really not the best thing to do in my opinion.

About my disappearing: i am going to university and i am working
(part-time). But i want to have my spare time to do things that i love as
amsn :-). So i decided to pass from 6hours to 4hours in the job, so i have

ok cool! I know how life can be time consuming! I hope you're doing fine.

Tell me what do you think about privacy tab, i know Preferences Window
should be changed (from years [?]) but i think we can start at least from a
 tab...

well, like I said, I don't like the idea, and I really don't think it's
necessary.. it's something that users see/use very rarely and it's already
quite good as it is (WLM also shows both allow and block and reverse lists
separately in their privacy tab).
Also, I think it would be best to start with something smaller..
about the we can start at least from a tab, I'd say no, because the
preferences window redesign isn't about making it different, it's about
completely changing it.. look at the start of preferences.tcl, Alvaro (I
think) started that a long time ago, you don't get to write 'checkbutton
$w.opt1 -variable ..; label $w.opt1lab -text ..' you do '$prefs append
[CheckboxFrame -text ... -variable ..] or something.. it should be a new
API, and a complete redesign.. have vertical pseudo tabs on the left, etc..
maybe even move to tcl/tk 8.5 and use ttk instead of tk. and definitely use
object oriented programming (snit or tcl/tk 8.6 oo::class stuff) and all
that is not possible to do with the current preferences dialog.. so even if
you start with a tab, that tab would have to be completely rewritten.

Anyways, that's just my personal opinion, maybe others disagree!
Good luck!
