[android-beginners] Re: Operating Systems supported by Android Apps

2009-08-13 Thread Maxood

Dear Yusuf
I just like to know whether we can deploy android apps on other
smartphones like Windows Mobile, iPhone, BlackBerry,Symbian, etc. Are
there any compatibility issues?

While there are some experimental releases of 'live Android' CDs that

only commercially available devices that run Android are cellphones.
Soon however there will be Android-powered 'smartbooks', i.e. devices
that are somewhere between netbooks (small, internet-focused
  notebooks) and cellphones.

yes there would be compatability issues because they do not run on the
android OS, and are programmed using different sdk's (and some in
different languages), so you could port your app to one of them with
some reconfiguring (and possibly reprogramming), but you can't just
put it on there and have it work

wwsean08 is right, although you may be able to cross-compile if this
works as claimed: http://www.xmlvm.org/android/

2009-08-11 Thread Roman

There was already a thread about this topic

http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/800057cdc8bcc299/a08a9e68fdd9bc5a?lnk=raot

If you download the Android source you can find the compiler for x86
and arm environment under

./prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain or
./prebuilt/darwin-x86/toolchain
