[android-developers] strange behavior connecting to a php script

2011-03-24 Thread Aisthesis
For a chess app I've been working on, I'm passing various types of
information between players by calling remote php scripts, into which
I pass post data, then get back a response based on data stored on the
server.

When testing one of these, I noticed that if I have the script send
back move and game status information using '\n' to separate each
entry, I only get the first line a lot of the time (when in my test
case there should be 5). If, on the other hand, I don't use a line
separator but instead separate entries just using ';' and put
everything on the same line, it always worked.

I just wondered what might be causing the unreliability when using
'\n' instead of ';'. I guess for web pages '\n' is just whitespace,
but that should, I would think, still be sent across the web just as
the appropriate ASCII number--i.e., just like everything else.

Any ideas what might be causing this behavior?

aren't able to open the file with my app. Is this something that is
generally impossible in Android, are the file managers poorly

Larger reach? At the moment it is US only for Buyer. And the payment

I don't see any advantage apart from the Amazon brand itself. Do you?

 QVGA-small-ldpi device brings startup errors.

 The mentiones ressource 0x7f020012 is present in the appropriate size in
 ldpi, mdpi and ldpi. Another side effect is that the application icon is
 not shown, so a default is shown now. Seems to me that the drawables are
 searched in a wrong folder? But to repeat ldpi is present and the png's
 are not corrupt or something.

 This is my current state in manifest.xml:

 I also tried without BROWSABLE and/or host, because I thought that

While you can show ads in toasts it is both annoying and pointless. Toasts
do not allow interaction so your ad cannot be clicked on.

mGroupFlags cannot be resolved
FLAG_SUPPORT_STATIC_TRANSFORMATIONS cannot be resolved

What you can do is to push a NDEF message, but you do not have access
to the communication protocol, i.e. to the NFC Logical Link Control

Does anybody knwo what happens if both devices are in push-mode and
push an NDEF message? Are these messages read simulaneously by both
devices?

Re: [android-developers] Re: Amazon Appmarket is now open!

2011-03-24 Thread Justin Giles

 Second update: Amazon updated my app's title and descriptions and they're
 still edited but *much* more in line with what I submitted in the
 description. I'm a happy panda now. Hot damn I love these people. Developer
 support rules!

Something that you need to check is your Keywords. I noticed on all of my
apps (submitted a while back) they put generic keywords in as a placeholder.
 I of course didn't even think to check that pre-release. I ran some
searches using terms related to my apps that that are in my app descriptions
and my apps didn't show up. I noticed the keywords being horrendously off.
I was able to change one of the apps keywords by editing the app description
section and the resubmitting the app again (note, there was no wait for
approval this time) and that seemed to fix it for that app. Doing the same
thing for one of my other apps is not working. I contacted support on
Tuesday about it and still haven't seen any resolution. This is the first
time that I'm actually really frustrated with the process. Basically my app
is undiscoverable unless you search for its exact name.

  The button was not visible when I added it to the layout : main.xml file

 Layout seems fine. Probably something else going on.

 You can't add button to a preference activity like that - again, use a

[android-developers] How to hide status bar..?

2011-03-24 Thread Abhilash baddam
Hi,

I referred this link
http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/on-screen-inputs.html . In
that if the user clicks on EditText(for ex To: ) at that time keyboard will
be popped out
and at the same time the user can be able to scroll to see all remaining
views(ex: compose,subject, send button) in that screen. Similarly in my app
i have one activity in that i am having some widgets or views.
Suppose if the user clicks on Edittext which is in my Activity then
keyboard is popping out and i can be able to scroll to see remaining views.
But if i give this attribute *
android:theme=@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen* in manifest i
was unable to scroll to see remaining views but if give attribute *
android:theme=@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar* like this in manifest i can
be able to scroll to see remaining view but there is status bar in that
screen, here i want full screen and even if the keyboard is popped out i can
be able to scroll to see remaining views..? what changes i have to made for
this..?

Yes, extra_email has to be an array.

   KV - ask the user to install one of several logcat collecting apps

Good ideas, both.  Thanks.

What really bothers me is that the crash is not being reported via

You can probably develop most of your algorithms in the emulator by
using the technique above, but it's not a complete solution. You will
need to test on a real device with real WiFi at some point.

[android-developers] WidgetProvider onUpdate called while there is no widget displayed

2011-03-24 Thread Tom
Hi folks,

This post is a similar to a Stackoverflow question [1], where I didn't get
any response, sorry for the duplicate.

I wrote a widget with a configuration Activity, and each time I install the
application with adb, the onUpdate method of my WidgetProvider is
called even if the widget isn't displayed. And also sometimes with multiple
appWidgetIds, and also when the configuration Activity is started.

In the onUpdate method I checked the value of
appWidgetManager.getAppWidgetIds(), and it returns 0 items.

I don't understand because I though :

   1. An AppWidgetProvider receives the broadcast only when there is one ore
   more widget displayed.
   2. A widget with a configuration Activity isn't updated with the
   broadcast on start up.
   3. Calling appWidgetManager.getAppWidgetIds() in onUpdate should returns
   the same int array than the appWidgetIds in the parameters.

As I experiment all those 3 dots are false.

Thanks in advance for explanation/help

[android-developers] Re: Sending data from android apps to TCP IP

2011-03-24 Thread Wall-E
I looked at DataOutputStream and the only difference I saw was that
the doc said that it sends the data in big-endian format. I'm not
sure if OutputStream is big-endian or little-endian, I think it's
little-endian. DataOutputStream is inherited from OutputStream so
they should have the same functionality. Anyway, so your problem is
that you're not seeing anything on the other end(Server end). I would
use some kind of network analyzer on the server end to see what's
coming in. Another thing I'm not quite sure about is that you use
flush. In my code, I don't use flush. I just call
myoutputstream.write(aByteArray);

I see that this line:

dataout.write(bdata,0,bdata.length);

has length 0 because bdata is not set to any data. The offset which
you have as 0 is fine but unless you are setting bdata to some value
or values, it won't write anything because the length is zero.
Otherwise it should write something to that socket.

If that is not all of your code maybe you can post more of it but if
thats all of it, that is what your issue is(bdata.length = 0).

There is that, but also - IMarketBillingService is not the billing

Re: [android-developers] Re: apkbuilder ?

2011-03-24 Thread Kris Nuttycombe
I help to maintain the SBT (http://code.google.com/p/simple-build-tool/)
plugin for Android, which is available
here: https://github.com/jberkel/android-plugin and would like to bring it
up to date with respect to apkbuilder. If I understand what you've said
correctly, part of what would be required to make this really work is to
factor out the common library build pieces from the Ant tasks and the
Eclipse plugin into the sdklib, or at least to figure out what they're doing
and duplicate it in the SBT plugin in order provide library support there. I
can devote a couple of days to this. Something that would would be very
helpful would be rough pointers to the parts of the Ant and Eclipse
libraries that interact with ApkBuilder, or if you have the time a couple of
quick notes as to what considerations are important when building library
projects.

Thanks!

That's not an explicit intent there.

It's an intent with an action string, that uses a Java class name as the

Re: [android-developers] Re: Unable to start service com.android.vending.billing.IMarketBillingService (Not found)p me?

2011-03-24 Thread Kostya Vasilyev

And one more clarification.

IMarketBillingService is not the billing service's class name, hence,
the service can't be started or bound by using that class. It's the name
of an interface that this service exposes, and only comes into play
after the service has been bound.

However, this is irrelevant, because the code quoted by Gustavo from the
billing reference, as well as code in the dungeons potions sample,
both use an implicit intent with an action string.

Besides, the code for binding to the billing service here is wrong:

http://developer.android.com/guide/market/billing/billing_integrate.html#billing-service

The difference between wrong (online docs) and working (sample sources)
intents is the action's value.

Online docs use the class name, com.android.IMarketBillingService,
as the action string, whereas the correct code uses a different
constant, which has the value com.android...BIND.

The latter works for me with Market 2.3.4, the former does not, exactly
the same way (bindService returns false).

I hope they straighten it out before officially launching the service.

[android-developers] Re: Strange behaviour with RessourceCursorAdapter

2011-03-24 Thread Antony BODY
Yes Nadeem, good idea ;-)

Then my adapter inherits from ResourceCursorAdapter and redifying
NewView method as:

LayoutInflater li = (LayoutInflater)
getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
return li.inflate(R.layout.listchargelayoutitem,
parent, false);

In the BindView method I load my image in layout by this way:

if
(cursor.getInt(cursor.getColumnIndex(fk_reccurent)) ==
DatabaseWrapper.NO_RECCURENCY) {
ImageView tvRecurent = (ImageView)
view.findViewById(R.id.isrecurentimg);
tvRecurent.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
}

Where ViewId named isrecurentimg is a part of my item's layout
define in listchargelayoutitem.xml. This layout implements an
RelativeLayout with some Views inside where the image look like that:

ImageView android:id=@+id/isrecurentimg
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content
android:layout_toLeftOf=@+id/spacer
android:src=@drawable/recurent
android:layout_centerInParent=true/

My adapter is refresh in an Update method wich is called in OnCreate,
OnResume method (inherits from Activity) or for some actions realized
by user on items.
Adapter is set in this way:

ListView list = (ListView)
findViewById(R.id.listofcharges);
list.setVerticalScrollBarEnabled(true);

// On crée l'adapter pour la gestion des items de la liste
adapter = new MyAdapter(this, cur);

[android-developers] Re: HID iCLASS

2011-03-24 Thread Paul Christensen
I was hoping to hear something by now, but since nothing, I'll clarify.
HID iClass card transmits a public UID over 13.56MHz using the ISO 15693
standard. All I want to do is read that public UID from an HID iClass. Since
I can read the UID of an ISO 15693 it stands to reason that I should be able
to read the UID from an HID iClass, but so far I have had no luck. Is this
something that the Nexus S is unable to do, or is it a situation where I
just have to position the HID iClass card correctly to be able to read it?

no with some jargon called deeplink.No idea what that is. Heres
the link they sent me.

I am going to write to androlib to see if they would consider offering

I'm trying during 3 days and I couldn't complete the codification.

This is from the sample code in Google Market Billing package, available
in the Android SDK and AVD manager. Filename: BillingService.java.

Note that it uses Consts.MARKET_BILLING_SERVICE_ACTION as the action
string for binding.

It works (binding wise) for me.

 * @return true if the bind succeeded; false otherwise
 */
private boolean bindToMarketBillingService() {
try {

}
boolean bindResult = bindService(
new Intent(Consts.MARKET_BILLING_SERVICE_ACTION),
 this,  // ServiceConnection.
Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE);

if (bindResult) {
return true;
} else {
Log.e(TAG, Could not bind to service.);
}
} catch (SecurityException e) {
Log.e(TAG, Security exception:  + e);
}
return false;

One thing you could do that I have done in a few occasions, is to get your
beta testers email address and validate that exists on the device. If it
doesn't, exit the app with a message.

Of course, this can be a bit of a pain and not very manageable for a lot of
beta testers because that involves doing a custom build... But if it is just
a few people it shouldn't be too bad.

[android-developers] Re: Gallery default item selected is in center

2011-03-24 Thread jotobjects
For a start there are probably non-public methods and fields in other
classes that Gallery uses from the widget package. SO just copy that
one class is not going to be sufficient.

The bigger problem is that Gallery does provide the hooks needed to
accomplish what you want (which is unfortunate I agree).

 * If the android its own source has errors then how I can go ahead ?*
 Obviously the android source does not have compile errors or it would not be
 working for everyone...  The errors were introduced when you copied the
 Gallery Widget class to your app.

But I want the actual app download to come from a reputable market so people
