[android-developers] Updating APK that supports 3.0+ only
Hi there, I have an app live in the Google Play store that currently supports Android 2.1+ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.visualdesign.livefootballontv I have re-written my app, now with Manifest: android:minSdkVersion=11 android:targetSdkVersion=17 API 11, is Android 3.0+ My question is, when i upload the new APK to my Google Play account, where the app is currently listed: (1) Will the current users of the app who are on Androd v2.1 - v2.3 just not get the updates from that point onwards until they update their Android OS version? (2) Will **NEW** users of the app running Android v2.1 to v2.3 not see the app listed on Play if they search for it? And (3) can i have an APK for user of 2.3.x and *below* ... and the *another *APK for users on v3.0+? I do not want to loose users if I'm only supporting 3.0 going forward. I'm not sure how this works with an app currently supporting 2.1+ and re-writing the app to support 3.0+. I just cant find the information i need. [android-developers] Socket Connection Timeouts - which SSLSocketFactory is best.
Hi I'm sure you have all done much more network programming than me. My colleague has created a trusted secure socket connection using these classes. import javax.net.SocketFactory; import javax.net.ssl.SSLContext; import javax.net.ssl.TrustManagerFactory; In the field, it is getting a java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connection timed out We both noticed that within the Android Tree, there are more choices for SocketFactory's than we have exploited. There is also. org.apache.http.conn.ssl.SSLSocketFactory So, without starting any holy wars, which one is better? Right now, we are thinking the apache one, because it allows you to specify httpparams that it honors for the socket connectionTimeout. We'd probably set it at 20 seconds, since thats what AndroidHttpClient does. But in the control group, I have no idea what the timeout is now. I know it is not zero, because that would imply infinite waiting, and it appears that the client may be giving up when the server was ready to respond. If we call SSLContext.getInstance(TLS).getSocketFactory().createSocket(SERVER, PORT); What timeouts will it have? I tried grepping the source code and got lost. Re: [android-developers] Socket Connection Timeouts - which SSLSocketFactory is best.
Wouldn't call myself a network programming expert, but here is my code: import javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory; // Create a socket without connecting SSLSocketFactory socketFactory = SSLSocketFactory.getDefault(); Socket socket socket = socketFactory.createSocket(); // Connect, with an explicit timeout value socket.connect(new InetSocketAddress(endpoint.mServer, endpoint.mPort), CONNECT_TIMEOUT); // Set read timeout socket.setSoTimeout(DATA_TIMEOUT); // SSL negotiation happens here, which is why setSoTimeout has to be called before InputStream streamInput = socket.getInputStream(); OutputStream streamOutput = socket.getOutputStream(); ... and so on and so forth. These sockets are not for HTTP, and if yours are not either, my gut feeling tells me that using Apache HTTP classes would be strange. -- K 2013/6/20 Nathan nathan.d.mel...@gmail.com: Hi I'm sure you have all done much more network programming than me. Usually all resource initialization is made in onSurfaceCreated callback. I also noticed this fragment: if (dt 33) try { Thread.sleep(33 - dt); } catch (InterruptedException e) { System.err.println(Failed to limit FPS); e.printStackTrace(); } else { Never do that - openGL will throttle your rendering thread anyway (on swap) and doing manual throttling is almost guarantee vsync miss. Re: [android-developers] Socket Connection Timeouts - which SSLSocketFactory is best.
I used to use 15 seconds for both, now 30 -- there are a lot of slow, overloaded servers out there (some of the worst ones are run by the US Government, lack of funding?) -- K 2013/6/21 Nathan nathan.d.mel...@gmail.com: Thanks. What timeouts do you use by chance? I was leaning toward 20 seconds because that is used by AndroidHttpClient. I would just trust whatever the defaults are, but somehow I both don't know what they are and, well, I don't trust them. [android-developers] Calendar .ICS file FAILS to work from email from Google?!?!?!?!?!?!!
Hello, I have created a Google Calendar event directly to my GMAIL's calendar (via api or manually) and have invited friends. I have tried to open the .ICS calendar invite that Google itself has presented as an attachment in my email, however my Android 4+ device fails to recognize the file format associated with an app. I have a hard time understanding/believing how Google developed technology that doesn't link with itself. Such a simple task makes a big company like Google seem like a startup (sloppy, careless). Isn't Apple enough motivation for you to integrate things that work seamlessly? (Why must one refer to Apple for the sleek-gold standard and not Google? Can't Google hire design and flow-experts, is it THAT difficult?) I'm sorry, but I am disappointed in Google's lack of support for its own technology. Next thing you know, a youtube link won't open from the YouTube app, if that's not going to happen, HOW COME a calendar invitation file does NOT open with the Calendar app? How come or why was this easy task missed? (it's a calendar file originating from Google). .VCS files are supposed to work however I am not even bothering to try that if Google is sending me a format my phone is supposed to recognize. I cannot ask my users to download an extra app to do the job the OS is supposed to do in the first place. *Your lack of support for this is embarrassing* with 4 major releases of the Android platform, you can't get a simple .ICS file to be recognized by the calendar app? Here Google, I'll get you guys started, it only took me 34 seconds to find the answer. Inside the Calendar app's AndroidManifest.xml please add the following inside the calendar's (main) activity definition: [This is for an .ICS file streamed from the web] intent-filter action android:name=android.intent.action.VIEW / category android:name=android.intent.category.BROWSABLE / category android:name=android.intent.category.DEFAULT / data android:scheme= http / data android:host=* / data android:mimeType= text/x-vCalendar / /intent-filter [This is for an .ICS file opened (from an attachment or whatever)] intent-filter action android:name=android.intent.action.VIEW / category android:name=android.intent.category.DEFAULT / data android:scheme=file / data android:host=* / data android:mimeType= .*\\.ics / /intent-filter That's it!! If that code is already there, then your intent filters are failing. Either way you look at it, there is a whole bunch of fail happening on your end. At this point, I'll have to add that code to our app so that it becomes one of the default .ics file handlers (although our app does *nothing* related to it) and all that it will do is load the Calendar app. So next time user opens any .ics file our app will show up as an option that actually loads the real Calendar app - thanks for the hack Google, we really needed more hacks in our app as there aren't enough! Now maybe, would you somehow happen to have a remedy that would automagically fix this? (Like a secret update or new recent update?) I'd really like to get my .ICS Calendar invites to show up on my users' phones' Calendar. [android-developers] How to implement Scroller-like fling using ObjectAnimator?
I am working on a map application and have been implementing all the common gestures. However I have got stuck on the fling gesture for scrolling the map. I initially used the android.widget.Scroller class as reccomended in the SDK to implement the fling animation, however I found that it was not flexible enough for what I need. (Specifically it takes int pixels where my map uses transformations with floats in metres). All my other gestures such as zoom and pan to point (ie single tap) I have implemented using the awesome ObjectAnimator class. However I cannot see how to do a fling with it. Mainly that for a fling you start with a start velocity that decelerates which means the animation time depends on that velocity. Where ObjectAnimator starts with an animation time. Also the current fling animation used (see https://github.com/android/platform_frameworks_base/blob/master/core/java/android/widget/Scroller.java) is *really* complicated and looks to be difficult to implement. So what is the recommended way to get fling animations using ObjectAnimator? How have other people done map flings? -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group.
