[android-developers] Using ViewPager2 + TabLayout for multiplication tables (Kotlin)

Hello ! 

I'm very new in using Android Studio and apologies if this subject is not 
relevant to this group. 

I'm trying to use TabLayout + ViewPager2 to create multiplication tables. 
As I understand this is the best one to use. 

So far I was able to create tabs (1-10), but I am nowhere near to manage 
how by clicking relevant tab it will show me multiplications based on this 
number. 

I know I need an adapter, which I created and where whole calculation is 
made, but when I run app I can only see latest number. This also is not 
linked to tab. 

Can anyone help me with this ?

Ok ideally here what Google Do.
'You know what? you want you'r own implementation of Firebase and GCM,well 
hell no you will not get that,use Firebase or GCM and don't trip'.

If we try to collapse this into meaningful sentence :D then we will get the 
next view : 

Lately i have been on development of own implementation of sockets 
connections to the server for the simple incoming messages logic.
I am using the Socket IO for both :  android and server side and everything 
just working like a pure perfection unlessfake 'background' Task 
service is coming up.

Here is the issue. I am opening connection to the server in service,i start 
service in any way possible (Start sticky,start not sticky and etc.) but 
the funny part is that
whenever the application is killed,the socket connection get disconnected 
and after digging a lot i found out that Google actually lies to us telling 
that SERVIE can be separataly and/or be alive even if application is 
killed. No way it can be that easy,as the Socke IO uses the thread under 
which it is created,and the actual thread was the Service Background Thread 
which i implemented,so the application is killed and BOOm service only been 
some pathethic idea.
Ideally it would be perfect to let the developers decide whether they want 
to use you'r slow dumb Firebase and GCM or no  -.- and give opportunities 
for such implementations.

[android-developers] Hardware updates

It has been a few years now that Google released the platform development 
Kit  (PDK)

When are we going to see manufacturers start updating their hardware to run 
the latest versions of android ?
OR when are we going to see Google pressure manufacturers to update their 
hardware.

When Google purchase Motorola Mobility I thought this would be great. Sadly 
it has meant nothing, nothing at all and developers are still the worse for 
it.


It constantly seems you buy an android device with the latest OS and then a 
new version of android comes out and your hardware becomes obsolete because 
the manufacturer does NOT release an update for it 


Case in point purchased a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 it is stuck at KitKat 
 because no update has been made.
Thus all the nice features in Lollipop ,  Marshmallow and N are basically 
useless because the manufacture couldn't be bother to take care of their 
users.


When is Google going to put a stop to this ?  When ?

Here is my 2c proposal

for devices 5 years or newer.
If the device is running the latest version of android the manufacturer 
pays a license fee of  $  0.05 per device in operation
if the device is running the latest version - 1 the 
manufacturer pays a license fee of  $  5.00 per device in operation
if the device is running the latest version - 2 the 
manufacturer pays a license fee of  $15.00 per device in operation
if the device is running the latest version - 3+   the manufacturer 
pays a license fee of $ 30.00 per device in operation

We all have access to the figures that tells us the number of devices 
running which version of android.

Basically if the manufacturer is not willing or able to update THEIR own 
hardware with the latest version of android they need to pay extra
Either that or Google needs to only release a new version of android every 
4 years  HEAVENS NO ! ! ! ! 

Would like to hear what other developers think,
Also what Google plans to do ?

[android-developers] Deny auto close for captive portal dialog on android devices

Hello,

I'm the senior developer of an wifi project offering free internet access 
to citizen in some regions.

Now on newer Android devices we are facing the problem that the captive 
portal dialogue gets closed as soon as the hotspot has unlocked full 
internet access for a wifi client.
For legal reasons a client must accept some terms before he gets full 
internet access for a period of time (24h for example).
But we also offer a free app so the user can get much longer access 
including roaming between different cities.

Therefore we would like to forward the user automatically to the Play store 
if he optionally selects "install app" in our captive portal dialogue. 

But if we unlock the clients session first and trigger a forward 
afterwards, Android detects free wifi access and closes the captive portal 
dialogue immediately.
The other way round, if we would just white list the Play store we could 
forward the client to our app entry but its now not possible to complete 
the login process because we cannot route him back.

Does anybody knows a possible solution so that we will be able to login the 
client but also to trigger a forward on click to the Play store without 
getting auto closed as soon as android detects full internet access?

After getting the device specific binaries, I was able to build and startup 
the OS successfully,
However, after going into the launcher, it looks for the recommendations 
(for the Android TV Launcher), fails and then I cannot go to the settings 
page.
With the other launcher, it shows an infinite spinner in on opening the 
apps page.
I am using a mouse for navigation, currently.
Do you have any ideas as to why I would see this?

Hello,

I was trying to build android from source for my Nexus Player.
I did the following steps, and the build was successful.

repo init -uhttps://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b 
android-5.1.1_r29
repo sync
. build/envsetup.sh 
 lunch full_fugu-userdebug
make -j4

After building, I flashed the output to the device using fastboot.
However, the OS fails to boot.
Could I be missing something? As per my understanding, the android source 
contains the kernel as well as the hardware specific parts included in the 
source for nexus devices. Is that right?

[android-developers] [Android TV] Regarding Android TV Input Framework Working and APIs

Hello,

I am looking into the Android TV Input Framework. I was able to get the 
online documentation on the https://source.android.com/devices/tv/ site.
However, I did not completely understand the detailed working and 
interaction between the Yellow app and the TV App.
How are the playback surfaces handled?
I also took a look at the source for the Sample TV App, which is the Live 
Channels app. I was able to figure out a few things like handling of remote 
input keys and routing them to the proper app, recommendations etc.
However, I am confused with the main part of the application that is the 
actual management of the playback surfaces, the APIs involved in 
interaction with the Yellow Apps (in the diagram on above link)
Are there any other examples, or some more documentation that would help to 
better understand the working, as well as help with building the TVApp as 
it is called?

[android-developers] Enabling Google+ login in two different developer console accounts for the same application

Hi All,

We have published our application in Google Play using a developer console 
account.  This is the official account for our application.

Later, when one of our developers integrating Google+ login has enabled 
Google+ Login API in his own developer console account.  He registered our 
application package by providing SHA1 (generated with our application's 
signed key) in his account.  After the Google+ login feature implemented, 
we have also published later versions to Google Play using our official 
account only.

Now, we want to disable this Google+ login API for our application package 
from his account and rather we want to enable this Google+ login API from 
our official account by using the same SHA1(generated with our 
application's signed key).  Is this possible?  If yes, please guide me on 
how to do this and any existing users gets affected?

Click event in vewgroup child not firing if i use 
dispatchTouchEvent(MotionEvent e) for touch. if i  use 
onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent e) i can stop the touch event and click 
is working as we expect. but i need click for viewgroup child items also i 
need to touch to drag the viewgroup.

I have viewgroup that extends LinearLayout but i cant able to add onclick
events to the child elements. Its only accessing ontouch event.

I used dispatchTouchEvent(MotionEvent e) to touch event and i returned true.

I tried onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent ev) to stop touch event.
eventhough i cant able to add onclick event.


How to add click event on ViewGroup child elements. can we able add onclick
and ontouch event for viewgroup?

[android-developers] Android Developer Console Issue - cannot finish registration

I'm trying to finish my Android developer registration on the Developer 
Console, but it looks as though the payment part is broken.
When I reach the point of paying the $25 fee, I am transfered to a Google 
Wallet page stating that:

As there is no other method for paying the fee, I have no other option.

Hi All
I'm looking at adding In App Purchases to my app, to allow for features 
to be unlocked

I have downloaded and looked through the example code  (Dungeons)

My question is testing
Am I correct in saying, that to test   you have to actually purchase the 
item and then process a refund for each item ?
If so,  will this not result in multiple debits and credits against the 
account and CC linked to the account ?


Or is there another mechanism to test that purchases work

Hi,

I have android application that is in play store. Application has C2DM push
notification feature and i used *accou...@test.com* as a whitelisted email
address. Now i need to change to *accou...@test.com*. If i change it to new
one and push it to play store then what will be the side effects?

1. If the enduser update the app does it switch to new whitelist email
address and notification will work as expected?
2. If the user does not update then no notification to them.
3. Is there any issues for changing one account to another?

created HDPI images its looking good in HDPI mobiles not good in others.

So do we need images for all version to support all phone models?

Hi,

I am using cometd Api for chat application its working good. but my
application frequently killed by android framework. Until otherwise i
launch application again it was dead in background and all the background
process has been terminated.

I knew its happening due to the channel has been established for all the
time.

How do overcome this once? Does android framework has way to do this?

If I write it as an  html5 or web app
Does this not mean that it   *HAS*   to be connected to the Net.  and 
thus either a WiFi access or 3G access  *MUST*  be available  ?


Or is there someway to be a web app that runs on myself 127.0.0.1  but I 
don't think the tablet's run a web server
I had seen about phone gap and html5 but this above issue is a concern 
for me.


I have also looked at things like MadeWithMarmalade  (not that 
impressed) and XmlVM  (has potential)

In my code I am able to convert  JPG and 3gp  to a thumbnail.
I would like to do the same with a PDF.
Does anyone know of a lightweight Android PDF library that will do this
OR
can one use the PDF Viewer in Android to extract an image of the first 
page ?

I have an imageview and i set background and source for that. How to crop
the imageView that fits exactly with image alone.

In the attachment oval is the image. how do i set that while background
color only for the image.

I tried with scaleType but no luck and i attached the code i tried

android:layout_width=wrap_content android:scaleType=centerCrop
android:src=@drawable/circle android:background=#ff
android:id=@+id/image/ImageView

I have a fragment class, in the fragment class, I implement the
onCreateView(...) callback in the following way:

run it on my phone, the back button press event is not handled, my Log
message is not showing. Why my OnKeyListener is not working ???

Error generating final archive: java.io.IOException: Keystore was 
tampered with, or password was incorrect


I'm guessing because  debug.keystore has no password and the publish one 
does.


Somehow trying to keep using the publish.keystore  but still do coding 
and testing using it.
If I have different keystores then I have to continually uninstall the 
app because the keystore changes

Trying to get around this

Okay  reading Signing your apps


   Signing in Debug Mode

The Android build tools provide a debug signing mode that makes it 
easier for you to develop and debug your application, while still 
meeting the Android system requirement for signing your .apk. When using 
debug mode to build your app, the SDK tools invoke Keytool to 
automatically create a debug keystore and key. This debug key is then 
used to automatically sign the .apk, so you do not need to sign the 
package with your own key.


The SDK tools create the debug keystore/key with predetermined 
names/passwords:


 * Keystore name: debug.keystore
 * Keystore password: android
 * Key alias: androiddebugkey
 * Key password: android
 * CN: CN=Android Debug,O=Android,C=US


Where are these set ?
So that when you press the Debug/Run button it knows to input the 
password = android, and alias = androiddebugkey ?

Why? How frequently are you running your app in release mode that 
this is an issue?
I expect that about 99.5% of development time is spent in dev move 
with the debug keystore. Once you're ready to update / publish, switch 
to release, run your sanity checks, and you should be good to go. Then 
back to your debug keystore for the next round development.

I now have two keystore files
debug.keystore   and   publish.keystore with a password

Is there anyway to link the publish.keystore to
  a) the Debug button / debug configuration   and/or
  b) the Run button / run configuration

Currently  I have to export the project to create the signed .apk
then from the command line  adb install -r   package.apk
and if I want to test the from command line  adb logcat

was nicer to do all this through the  debug / run buttons

I can't find anything similar on a google search,
They have one that talks about a class, and thus the class is corrupt
But my error does not have a class, so I don't know what is corrupt or not ?

I'm trying to use the  trilead ssh2 library to establish a   scp  connection

If I create the apk using the debug/run  then the code works fine

If I export and sign the apk  then the code generates the following

Can a single  apk   have  source files with multiple package  names ?

I just added the trilead source code to my project
So the trilead files have
package com.trilead.ssh2.transport;
package com.trilead.ssh2...  etc;

Where as my project all has
package org.ttienterprises.eeds

Could this somehow relate to the problem I am seeing
a) debug build apk's   don't mind  whereas
b) exported signed apk'sdo mind ?

Why else would the code work if done using a debug apk  but fail if 
using a signed apk ?

Are you using ProGuard? (it seems you are from the stacktrace) It might be
removing classes/methods your app actually needs. Try disabling ProGuard,
if that works, read the docs and fine-tune your progurad.cfg.

pictCanvas.rotate(90  , pictCanvas.getWidth()  / 2 ,

image.invalidate();

Nothing happens calls the code, but the image stays the same ?
Any ideas what could be causing this ?

Thanks to all.

1) is the jar created still as part of the same package ?

2) I take it then that you upload the .apk and then the jar(s) as well ?

3) Where can I find information on this esp. the creating of the jar and 
then dynamically linking them to the apk ?


For further insight, under windows I used a code within the .exe which 
said which modules were available
then based on the code it checked to see if those .dll were present.  If 
so, then they were loaded and added

items to the main menu, and thus added functionality to the overall .exe

This is the same purpose I'm trying to now achieve but with android.

Libraries for your own apps? You'd use a jar.

For other apps to use, you'd write a service, to which other apps 
would bind using aidl, sending intents, etc...

[android-developers] Help Urgent

Help please
I got an error message saying
Debug Certificate expired on

So I did a web search and found an article that had said delete the 
debug.keystore

Thankfully (or not) I moved mine  but now it says
Re-installation failed due to different application signatures.
[2012-02-09 16:53:13 -  You must perform a full uninstall of the 
application. WARNING: This will remove the application data!
[2012-02-09 16:53:13 -  Please execute 'adb uninstall 
org.ttienterprises.pack' in a shell.

[2012-02-09 16:53:13 -  Launch canceled!

I can't loose the data on the device
So I moved the debug.keystore   back

But I still get the signature error

Please HELP ! !

Okay I had to Clean and rebuild the Project  So it is not  warning about 
difference signatures  But  Now still has the  Debug Certificate 
expired  error ?

Is there anyway to extend the  Certificate   without going through the  
adb uninstall ??

Huh? Just delete your debug.keystore file. The build tools will
regenerate a new one on the next build.
