[android-developers] Re: ADT installation on Ubuntu 9.10

2009-12-07 Thread wescorp
Hello,

I too was having the rmentioned issues with Karmic when I found these
updated Eclipse releases with the required files already included.
Made for a great Android install.

Here's the link.
http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/downloads/

I used:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/epp/downloads/release/galileo/SR1/eclipse-php-galileo-SR1-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz

which seem to fix all the issues except for device recognition.
Now on to that.

Cheers,
Wes

[android-developers] Re: ADT installation on Ubuntu 9.10

2009-12-07 Thread wescorp
Hi again.

Notes for device recognition for Karmic Koala.

Following the directions here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html
only worked partially for me.

Here is the link I found which has a working device rules file for
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=70178

After editing my /etc/udev/rules.d/11-android.rules file to contain:

SUBSYSTEM==usb|usb_device, SYSFS{idVendor}==0bb4, MODE=0660,
GROUP=plugdev
SUBSYSTEM==usb|usb_device, ATTR{idVendor}==0bb4, ATTR{idProduct}
==0c02, SYMLINK+=android_adb
SUBSYSTEM==usb|usb_device, ATTR{idVendor}==0bb4, ATTR{idProduct}
==0c01, SYMLINK+=android_fastboot

and a hard reboot -- and everything works perfectly.

Thanks to all.

Cheers,
Wes

[android-developers] Locale Problem

2009-04-04 Thread wescorp

Hi All,

I've been working on localization. I think I have localization
working correctly throughout my application. In one case though,
something is amiss. Normally, after a web view creation, a toast
message appears providing a message to the user and works great with
the locale. Then if the device orientation changes from portrait to
landscape, or landscape to portrait, the web view is recreated
correctly, but the toast message comes back in English instead of the
localized language. Any ideas?

Thanks.

[android-developers] SDCard and SQLiteOpenHelper problem

Hello,

I need to be able to work with databases on the sdcard.

I've been using the following code snippet from the NotePad
application and works perfectly on the emulator without using the
sdcard.

private static class DatabaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper {
DatabaseHelper(Context context) {
super(context, mydb.sqlite, null, 2);
}

When I include the path to the db as
 /sdcard/application/mydb.sqlite

the following error occurs
 10-29 09:57:04.798: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(200): Caused by:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: File /sdcard/application/
mydb.sqlite contains a path separator

The sdcard is properly emulated.
The path exists.

I've looked around but no obvious solution to me.

Any help greatly appreciated.

[android-developers] Re: Mobile Intelligent Traffic Systems

I've created an open source repository for trafficman at

http://code.google.com/p/trafficman/

A lot of this is new to me, so any help/pointers along the way would
be great.

Cheers,
Wes

[android-developers] Re: Rules for using database.

2008-05-19 Thread wescorp

IMO, the answer to 1 is yes, you do need to close. Initially, my
program would work without closing the db early on, but then after
increased complexity, I started getting errors because those
activities could not properly close on their own.

 I've a question concerning using database on Android. I want to know
 if there are any rules for this.
 1) Do we have to close Cursor or SQLiteDatabase after using it?

[android-developers] File Upload/Download -- Best practices...

2008-05-18 Thread wescorp

My application needs to transfer Android device files to and from a
web or file server. I am trying to find the best practice to do
this. I understand the need to use a service and let it run in the
background, but inside the service what protocol should I be using,
http, ftp, or something else?

Am I missing something here?

Thanks for any help.

Here is a link to video tutorials for Eclipse and Java for Total
Beginners. It's been downloaded over 500,000 times in the last year.
Highly recommended.
