Developing the app and the rest service sounds more complicated than
sending information to another framework.

 How Can I solve this problem.

Do what you did to send the data to the web service, but send it to the
other framework instead.

If any of you have developed similar app and would not mind to share the

Re: [android-developers] barcode scanner not launching

2011-09-30 Thread Mark Murphy
I suggest using their IntentIntegrator, as I did in this somewhat-old
sample project:

https://github.com/commonsguy/zxingdemo

Also, delete your intent-filter -- *you* are not *implementing* an
activity supporting com.google.zxing.client.android.SCAN. You are
*consuming* an activity from the Barcode Scanner application that
implements com.google.zxing.client.android.SCAN.

Beyond that, since you did not state what your problem is, it may be
difficult for people to assist you.

[android-developers] Barcode Reader and Soft Input

2010-12-28 Thread Kai Sam
Hello together,

I use an Opticon OPN-2002 which I have configured as an HID device
(keyboard).
The SPP application crashes with a NullPointerException, hence it's
useless and I do not want to wait for an update.

Long story, short meaning:
The problem is, that I still need the soft keyboard for text input.

I already tried to force show it via

InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager)
this.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
if(imm != null) {
imm.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.SHOW_FORCED,
InputMethodManager.HIDE_IMPLICIT_ONLY);
}

The other approach was to use the iOS - Toggle Soft Keyboard-Option
of the device. However, this just works on an old version of Android;
the current version (2.2.1) behaves not the way I intented.

However, this still does not work if my scanner is attached via
Bluetooth.

Ideas/Suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Kai

Here are two possibilities:

1. You store on the phone the barcode as an alphanumeric value and a bar
code type, then generate the image on the phone. That would require a
bar code imaging JAR, and while those probably exist for Java, I expect
they may require some massaging to work on Android.

2. You store on the phone the actual barcode image, obtained from a Web
service or something. This has the advantage of being a better-traveled
road. Then, you'd just use an ImageView, or the 2D graphics API, to
display the image on screen.

The only thing I see potentially being tricky with scenario #2 is
getting the image size right, taking into account different screen
densities. And, you have that same problem with scenario #1.

Humm hoping there were barcode fonts or something, I wanted to create a

one will be of high quality so will scan fine.

Well, there are a seemingly infinite number of barcode standards, each
with different line lengths, widths, etc. You don't just need a barcode
font -- you need one that handles whichever standard(s) your app needs.

Some are in fonts, but the last I looked (years ago), there were few
freely available fonts. I recall trying to figure out how to add USPS
delivery barcodes to mailing labels and giving up in frustration.

But, again, that was a few years ago, and something new may have arisen
since then.

I'm getting feature request for an application I published that
involve the use like what I describe above and I would love to see
what I can work out.
