[Archivesspace_Users_Group] personnel update

2016-10-18 Thread Robert Miller
To the ArchivesSpace community,
It is with regret that we received notice that Brad Westbrook, ArchivesSpace
Program Manager, wishes to move on to pursue new opportunities after three
years of dedicated service with the ArchivesSpace program. He will be missed.

Brad has worked tirelessly since 2013 to help position ASpace for success in
the community. He was one of the original architects of the Archivists Toolkit
when he was at UCSD, and has been instrumental in bringing the software to
archivists ever since. In his role at ArchivesSpace, he has helped navigate
the myriad issues associated with bringing a new software service to the
community. Brad’s familiar face was often seen at SAA and the many events,
conferences and hackathons that he participated in or led.
Fortunately, Brad will remain in his position for the next six weeks with the
ArchivesSpace program and LYRASIS, the Organizational Home, to help find a
suitable replacement. He will also help in the recruiting and hiring of a tech
lead.
While November 30th will be his last day as Program Manager, Brad has kindly
agreed to continue working with ASpace on dedicated projects after that. We
will announce more details on that as specific plans are confirmed.
Laurie Gemmill Arp, Director of Collections Services and Community Supported
Software at the LYRASIS Organizational Home, to whom Brad reports, will work
closely with Brad and Christine Di Bella during this transition to ensure that
commitments are reviewed and kept.
We wish Brad well in his future endeavors.
If there are questions, please feel free to reach out to me, Robert Miller, CEO
of LYRASIS which is the Organizational Home for ASpace
(robert.mil...@lyrasis.org).

Sincerely,

Robert

I also just realized that we have the same issue unfortunately. Am now
watching that JIRA.

Hi, Valerie,

1.V1.5.0 RC3 does not have a feature for merging top containers. That is
still an open request; see
AR-1436.

Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] Easy question on 1.5

Hopkins is currently using 1.4.2 with container management, and is wondering
whether 1.5 includes the ability to merge top_containers? We have a number of
containers that converted to distinct containers when they should be the same
container (two box 252s, for example, when they are the same), and in order to
correct the problem we have to manually change each instance affected. Before
putting in a feature request, we through it prudent to ask whether there is a
merge function in 1.5.

Thank you.

Re: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] Importing container profiles?

2016-10-18 Thread Kevin Clair
Hello,

Attached is a quick JSON dump of all the container profiles we have in Denver’s
ArchivesSpace instance so far. You’ll probably want to have someone take out
all the created/last modified data if you use this, and I’m not 100% sure the
dimensions are exactly accurate (I rounded up to the nearest quarter inch), but
it covers most of the Gaylord boxes we buy in bulk. Titles include
human-readable names as well as the Gaylord product code.

We added these one by one through the staff interface, so I’m not sure if
there’s a non-API method we could have used to do it in a batch. -k

Subject: [Archivesspace_Users_Group] Importing container profiles?

Hello,

We've just migrated to v.1.5.1, so we need to create a whole bunch of container
profiles. I know others have been in this exact same situation, and most of our
boxes are the same as at every other repository.

  * Does anyone have a list/spreadsheet/etc of container profiles they're
willing to share, so I don't have to look up dimensions on a vendor website (or
worse, head into the stacks with a yardstick)?
  * Is there no way to import multiple container profiles at once from the
ASpace staff interface? Or is the only way with the API?
Thanks,
Celia

2016-10-18 Thread Maureen Callahan
Hi Celia,

What a great question! I don't currently have access to a long list of
container profiles (my former colleagues at Yale may be willing to share
the ones we came up with there), but I do have a quick-and-dirty method for
importing them into ArchivesSpace via the API, available here:
https://github.com/smith-special-collections/aspace-migration/blob/master/container%20profiles/AddContainerProfiles.py
(I prepared this as a proof of concept when working with a colleague --
you'll want to update the variables to match your own environment, and you
will also need to update infile.csv to reflect the list of contianer
profiles you'll end up using)
