 2010 – A Promising Year for A.R. Rahman
http://www.cinefundas.com/2010/09/09/2010-–-a-promising-year-for-a-r-rahman
Published on Sep 9 2010

 Maybe,
the previous year was his time to get acclaimed as one of the World’s most
acclaimed musician. His grand success of Academy awards, Grammy, Golden
Globe, BAFTA and many more awards kept him high on spirits. And this year,
it’s been a real treat for his fans witnessing his heavy downpour of albums.

It all started with Gowtham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ and its Telugu
version ‘Ye Maaya Chesavo’. Both the versions topped the charts and ennobled
A.R. Rahman for his earnest attempts of taking Tamil music to the next
level. Especially the song ‘Hosanna’ still remains over the top. Apparently,
his next trilingual album – ‘Raavan’, ‘Raavanan’ and ‘Villain’ and these
albums grossed with record-breaking sales in Indian music market.

His direct Telugu album ‘Komaram Puli’ directed by SJ Suryah is already
making good business at audio markets. After a long sabbatical gap, A.R.
Rahman had composed music for a Telugu album and all the songs including
‘Power Star’, ‘Amma Thale’ have become the favorite numbers even amongst
non-Telugu speaking communities.

Doubtlessly, his recent release ‘Enthiran’ has gone higher over the global
charts breaking the records. It’s worth mentioning that ‘Enthiran’ is the
first Tamil album to have taken a position of No. 1 at World level. The
other versions in Hindi and Telugu titled as ‘Robot’ have already become the
chartbusters. The Hindi music channels have been continuously airing the
songs of ‘Robot’….

Apart from these albums, the academy award winner will score music for
Gowtham Menon’s Hind remake of ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’, which will have
couple of additional tunes. He is now associated with 3 international
projects ‘Nair San’, ‘Desire’, ‘Paani’ and ‘Danny Boyles’ Hollywood movie
‘127 Hours’. Not to forget, his next Hindi album ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’ is fast on
the way to audio tracks and his previous combination with Abbas Tyrewala in
‘Jaane Ya Tu Jaane Na’ was a tremendous success.

Possibly, ‘127 Hours’ should be yet another key for our Madras Mozart to win
yet another academy honor.

[arr] Rahman's gift to Ashaji

2010-09-09 Thread Thulasi Ram
In an industry where relationships hardly ever stand the test of time,
double Oscar-winning composer AR
Rahman
certainly
wants to be an exception.

The musician, who is being criticised nationally for his composition of the
Commonwealth Games track written by lyricist Mehboob, made a hush-hush trip
to Mumbai just
for a day before boarding the flight to the US for the American leg of his
world tour. BT has learned that while in the city, Rahman shot for a reality
show but his main purpose was to meet one of his icons — Asha
Bhosle,
who turned 77 on Wednesday.

Rahman handpicked 77 roses for the legendary singer to celebrate her
birthday but unfortunately both of them could not match their timings and he
had to courier the bouquet of roses to Asha's residence on Peddar Road. One
of Rahman's closest aides said, "It is a mark of respect from Rahman's side
to Asha, a singer he has idolised for many years now. He somehow wanted to
make the day special for her. When he realised that he couldn't meet her,
Rahman made it a point that the roses reached Asha on her birthday. He also
took a confirmation that the roses had reached her residence from the
courier company before boarding the flight. Rahman wanted to keep the visit
secret as he did not want unnecessary media attention on him at a time when
he is being criticised by almost everyone."

Re: [arr] Sukhwinder problem?

2010-09-07 Thread Thulasi Ram
thanks for the link. i just watched the HD video of ARRs performance at
Oscar with a decent quality earphones. ofcourse the song was
pre-orchestrated. there were some vocals in the song that did not account
for live singers but i did not hear sukhwinder's voice in any bit of it.

there may be other reasons on which sukhwinder could have pointed out, but
his concern on this aspect sounds really childish. if it was not right to do
at the oscar stage, they wouldn't have let it happen in the first hand.

btw, can anyone translate the three options presented in the jai ho
question?

[arr] Cinefundas churns out a 'fitting' article on ARRs CWG - Sane!

2010-09-06 Thread Thulasi Ram
Seeking honor by dishonoring the musical legend
Published on Sep 6 2010

Creative
pieces of works are always open to criticisms. But certain fame-mongers try
grabbing public cynosures with their cheap publicities. Needless to mention,
A.R. Rahman’s theme song for Commonwealth Games 2010 Khelo Jeeyo, Hey-O,
Let’s Go has gained more publicity for gimcracks. To put it in right terms,
the goosey feedbacks by few jugheads have got their names published in
newspapers and media channels. Of course, it’s all they wanted – make
unsound judgments and seek the fame.

Starting off with BJP Leader and Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee
Executive Board Member V.K. Malhotra, his statements pertaining to the theme
song is completely rubbish. He has uttered that theme songs completely lack
soul and this wasn’t something they expected from A.R. Rahman, who churned
out some of the evergreen songs like ‘Maa Tuje Salaam’.

If V.K. Malhotra wanted same-fangled song, he could have better recorded
this song’s lyrics with same tune of ‘Vande Mataram’. Will that make sense?
So are his reasoning abilities.

A.R. Rahman holds special mention for redefining the New Line of Indian
Music at global standards. Even his earliest works delivered in 90s holds
great prominence in World famous charts of Billboard. He holds great mention
for accomplishing with Next-Gen music from time to time.

And about V.K. Malhotra commenting a hefty fee 0f 5.5 Crores reveals of his
gaudy gesture. For Rahman, it’s not about money, but a great passion for the
work he does. If money was interesting him, he wouldn’t have refused more
than dozen of Hollywood and international offers in the past one year that
could have doubtlessly spanned him bigger sum.

Rahman’s songs cannot be judged at the first time. It’s because of his
detailing factors he adds to his each number. Say for instance, the CWG
2010 theme song has such innumerable panoramas emblazoning the simple
lyrics. It starts off on metal guitars with Santoor and Sitar played on
fastest notes. Studded with a wonderful synchronized chorus, the song ends
on a different octave with fiestas of Bhangra.

Rahman has reached a level of far behind criticisms and such amateurish
claims wouldn’t affect him.

Playback Singer Ila Arun has openly admitted – it’s obvious that Rahman’s
showpieces are bounded to mixed responses in the initial stages, but rightly
reaches its epitome of success as the time grows in. It was all illustrious
with his ‘Jai Ho’ song in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ that didn’t gain publicity
during the time of music release, but later stunned the whole world. Even a
year after ‘Oscar’ and ‘Grammy’ triumphs, the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ stands
out at Top 10, in almost all the countries.

Thanks to Bollywood music director Pritham, who make a distinct statement
saying, “It’s not just about the song, Rahman’s Super Brand will turn entire
globe not alone towards the song, but on the complete event of CWG 2010 as
well.

If music director Aadesh Shrivastava cannot understand the lyrics and music
of CWG 2010, it’s just revealing that he hasn’t been wizardry in musical
phase. In his statement, he has commented insisting A.R. Rahman to score 5
different versions of the same song. This poor musician has traveled a long
journey of more than a decade in Bollywood and hasn’t been able to captivate
the music lovers with his tunes. Starting from ‘KHATRA’ in 1991 till his
recent release, none of the songs have been acclaimed at least as an average
fare.

What is the point in comparing this song with FIFA Songs of Shakira’s ‘Waka
Waka’ and Ricky Martin’s ‘The Cup of Life’. Well for those, who commented on
music and lyrics, would they be able to easily grasp the lyrics of ‘Waka
Waka’ and ‘Cup of Life’.

Music breaks the barrier of language and nativity and it’s an universal
feel. Or else our own Tamil albums wouldn’t be holding such important places
across the World.

If at all, Shakira and Ricky Martin were the best ones to compose theme song
for ‘CWG 2010 Theme Song’, Mr. V.K. Malhotra could have signed them for
same-patterned song.

Mark our words! A.R. Rahman’s ‘CWG 2010 Theme Song’ will undoubtedly carry

it is a fact that rahman has been on the downhill for sometime now and has
not come up with anything great or worthy of his name. i feel he composes
more from his head than his heart and his music is more wizardy than soul.
jeans, lovebirds, kadhal desam, vtv had one or two hummbale numbers each and
thats all. probably he is confused asto whether he has to compose pure and
simple music or go high funda to live upto his name. the result is that the
confusion reflects inhis music.

[arr] AR Rahman’s composition of theme song for CWG 2010 influenced by over expectation

2010-09-05 Thread Thulasi Ram
 Saturday, 04 September 2010 04:39 | [image: PostAuthorIcon]Written by Aman
Narula

It is really heartrending that AR Rahman honored with international laurels
is encountering aggravation for his anthem composed for Commonwealth Games
2010. It isdeplorable to see people remain indulged in drawing comparisons.
They are seeking western flavor in Indiancomposition. Since the day when AR
Rahman was assigned the job of composing anthem for CWG 2010, everyone
wanted that his theme song should not only sound like Shakira’s “Waka Waka”
(prepared for Football World Cup 2010) but it should outshine its success
also.

People have presented their reactions on social networking sitesin heaps. If
we forget the views of higher officials regardingtheme song for few seconds
and go by the opinion of public in general; they are missing the spark of
energy and vigor in the anthem. It seems to be worn-out and what to talk of
surpassing Waka Waka it is not even near to it. The song took six months of
time and it costs Rs.5.5 crore. But the efforts of Rahman and Mehboob have
not been recognized positively. It lacks the original spirit of India and it
fails to showcase country’s culture to the world.

“Oh Yaaro! India Bula Liya” does not fill you with the spirits that were
present in Rahman’s Oscar winningcomposition “Jai Ho”. His music has earned
standing ovation around the world that makes the Organising Committee of CWG
2010 to employ Rahman for the composition of anthem. But it seems that he
has to compete with his own song “Jai Ho”. The theme song was anticipated to
be the huge success as Rahman was behind it; perhaps this causes pressures
over his work. And it is quite obvious that higher expectations usually
influence the creativity. The things went worse when Rahman himself
appraised the song and assured that it will be better than Waka Waka. His
statement enthused his fans with great enthusiasm who were waiting for the
release of the song. But it left most of the audiences unmoved as it could
not touch the instincts of people.

Sukhwinder Singh is also very sad about his friend receiving critical
comments on anthem “Oh Yaaro!” He has sung several songs with his music. He
believes Rahman has reached the summit as a result of his teamwork. He
wonders as to how did he appraise his creation that he is so humble and down
to earth that he never spoke about hiscomposition in the past.

V K Malhotra was the first one not liking the theme song of CWG 2010
composed by AR Rahman. Then critical remarks kept pouring in by political
leaders. In the recent development, former sports minister Shahnawaz Hussain
has demanded recreation of the theme song. He says, “I respect Rahman for
what he has achieved but the track simply does not excite me. No one in the
Organising Committee (OC) likes it except perhaps Suresh Kalmadi. It
isnowhere close to Waka Waka and has failed to lift the sagging spirits of
the CWG. Either it is good music or bad. There is no middle way to evaluate
the appeal of an Rs.5 crore (Rs.50 million) track, he can surely re-compose
it”.

[arr] CWG lesson

2010-09-03 Thread Thulasi Ram
watching ARRs
interviewagain,
he was quite frustrated but handled with laughter when question
related to waka waka was asked. it was quite an untypical answer from ARR.
needless to say that the reply was fitting but unfortunately media has
bookmarked it and has been pointing that out left and right now.

ARR requested media to write positive stuff about CWG. they came back to
bash ARRs CWG anthem.

whats the lesson here? - Don't bother and be cool for insane accusations.
Hope ARRs silence symbolizes that. for the past two days, even m disturbed
due to this meaningless turmoil. i dont know how ARR handles this. Let God
give him all the power he needs to stay focussed. Iets pray.

p.s: i wish ARR doesn't open up the floor for questions in the future. all u
hear is BS. 1-1 interview would work as we haven't noticed any bizzare stuff
during that yet.

[arr] CWG and percussions

2010-09-02 Thread Thulasi Ram
the line "khelo, jeeyo, hey-o, lets go", is once rendered without
percussions and I can find another 4 times were the percussion arrangement
is different for that line at different places in the CWG song. all in
unison, the percussion adds lilting effect to the song and towards the end
it turns into bhangra-ish.

as the music director Alphons rightly mentioned about the international
appeal of this song, my gut feeling says that this song will appeal to
international audience is publicized well (now, is that going to happen?)

Re: [arr] Why CWG song is targeted by...

2010-09-01 Thread Thulasi Ram
well, u nailed in summing up Indian public's opinion about ARRs CWG. 1.5
years after Oscar, this is a turmoil created by media for absolutely no
reason.

the senior MDs who raised their controversial opinion abt this song - where
were they when ARR received his double Oscar and double grammy? hiding in a
dark room to avoid the aura of ARRs victory? just shutting their mouth
stinged with envy?

i bet the gentleman, whomever it is, wouldn't have heard waka waka even
once. if he heard it, he wouldn't have uttered those meaningless words. both
songs cater to the youth and/or current generation. one wouldnt expect their
grandparents to like songs like these as their minds are tuned to 'mile sur
mera tumhara' though i would argue ARRs CWG anthem is universal and would
cater to everyone irrespective of age, old mundle heads will not like it . i
dont blame them. problem is, instead of voicing their opinion to the
committee or whatever it be, people want to blow the bubble to the blunt
media for telepresence.

what can u expect a leader from opposition party to say?! and, Indian media

the link below deals with the same news. but its a video!

though
the gentleman there says the song didn't excite him and he wud rather prefer
something from 1980's days, look at the statement given by the so called
famous news channel. waka waka was never mentioned in that video. just
exaggeration and BS.

*VK Malhotra, who is also the Vice President of IOA, said Rahman's song is
not as inspiring as Shakira's Waka Waka.*
*
*
*also, if u goto bollywoodhungama, there is no mention of CWG released by
ARR. *
*
*
*i bet there would be majority of Indians and infact some from our group who
wouldn't fear even to pray so that ARRs score in 127 hours should go
unnoticed. such lame, heartless individuals certainly exist and they try
their best to curse the cause instead of atleast staying put - if not
promoting.*
*
*
*i wish ARR goes hollywood way and spends equal or more time on hollywood
projects as well.

having gone thru similar experience in the past, i din even bother to listen
any of the telugu & hindi counterparts of endhiran songs. usually, the
impression created by the song and the lyrics of your first choice,
irrespective of the language, always has a significant impact than their
clones in other languages.

Don't media make use of the opportunity to ask some sensible
questions? The q&a section was like a market place with people
screaming around. In the presence of an achiever, won't people at
least try to speak something meaningful? Attrocious. Hate those
people.

Re: [arr] Rahman should work with new breed of directors.

2010-08-07 Thread Thulasi Ram
recently ARR took the chance and worked with kalaipuli dhanu's son in
sakkarakkati. needless to say the movie was a disaster and the songs were
wasted in the movie. on the other hand his new buddy gautham churned out a
class movie like VTV and the songs were extraordinary. so, really ARR needs
to work with matured directors in my opinion and not with directors who are
in an experimental mode. i really dont want to see ARRs songs wasted in a
movie or be unheard just because of a wrong combo that has failed to click
in the box office.

simply superb. never imagined that i wud hear such a shade of voice from

singing english songs in upcoming hollywood albums/ventures.
